I had the same parting sorrow from the G9x last Christmas; Logitech has not updated this form factor.

I settled on the Corsair M40. It's optical; there exist laser variants M65 and M95 that have the same size but laser sensors and I think the M95 has an aluminium shell, which some people like and some don't. It's a short, fat mouse that fills my small hands nicely the way the G9x did. You can disable the logo LED so all you're left with is the DPI display and the actual sensor. The software hasn't had any hitches for me and you can save profiles for use on other computers, including Linux and so I presume mac, that don't have the software installed.

You can also look at the G502 which just came out, although the form factor is nothing like the G9/G9x; it just seems to have a very nice feature set, including freewheel scrolling with a topside toggle (G9x had freewheel toggle on the underside where it was nearly useless for me; I don't know if the G9 has freewheel or if you care).

I don't know why Logitech is recently so obsessed with making their stuff look like Razer and Mad-Catz cyborg had some babies, but I can live with it. I also don't know why they seem to be actively not making a wireless version of the g400/s, instead we get the 602, which has nice stats, but I hate the design, and I don't need that many side buttons, hell I barely use the second thumb button. I just want the optical mx518/g400, but wireless, and also have the crazy battery life of the 602, I seriously don't give a poo poo I would pay 200 dollars for it.

Just bought a G502 after my old wired Logitech mouse poo poo the bed after 3 years of hard use, and I am so in love with it that I deliberately sought this thread out to see if other people are talking about it.

The cable is nice and supple (it's the softest cable I have ever seen, it's literally like a piece of paracord. Never liked wireless mice, because LATENCY) and I feel like the mouse wheel complaints are unwarrented. I can't get the wheel to spin freely in hyperscroll mode no matter how much I fling it around, even picking it up and shaking it violently doesn't get it to spin, I have no idea what some of you guys are doing to get it to be a problem. Scroll wheel is nice and chunky, and the actual mouse itself glides very smoothly. The DPI shift button is novel, haven't got a chance to test it for its intended purpose since I mostly play Wargame. I never really gave a poo poo about accuracy in the past (I figure a mouse is a mouse is a mouse and gaming mice just gave you extra hotkeys), but holy poo poo is this thing accurate.

It's $80 well spent, I keep pressing the DPI shift button to see the pretty blue lights. Definitely feels like an $80 mouse, it's solid and worth the money for the design alone, it's a sexy peripheral. I got it at Best Buy out of convenience, and they had two other brand new Logitech mice which I can't remember the name of (I think one was the G602? wireless mouse with all the thumb buttons). Going into the store blind with the objective of "buy new mouse", I settled on the G502 because it's more comfortable in the hand if you are a palm gripper, so take that for what you will comparatively.

You're probably brushing it, or it's in-between steps. Just leave it in the stepped mode unless you actually need to scroll way through something.

stop staring at me

Got a new work laptop and figured I could pick up a new mouse to go with it. What's the successor to the VX Revolution? Loved that little thing, but one day I opened it up to find battery corrosion all over it (I attacked it with a q-tip and vinegar a few times but couldn't revive it), and it'd also be nice to not have to deal with a receiver jutting two inches out of the laptop, asking to be ripped out and possibly taking the USB port with it in the process.

Looking on the Logitech page for mice, the Marathon M705 appears to be the closest thing, but it doesn't look like it's as ergonomically sculpted, and it's actually got fewer features than the old VX Revolution (I liked using the index finger rocker to change browser tabs).

Are there any mice that don't end up with an infuriating double click problem? I've only had my G700 for a couple of years but it's unusable in games because it randomly clicks twice.

I'm going to open it up and try to fix the switch but I'd really like to swap it out for something equally feature rich, but more reliable.

I had an MX518 for only a year and a half before it started double clicking. I threw it out my window and ordered a G400 that lasted about two and a half years until I moved and lost it. So they have been improving at least.

Since the move I've been using a lovely M510 and have ordered a G502 & M240 (mouse pad) after watching reviews closely. I figure it will be a godsend considering the only good thing about this 20$ filler is its software (SetPoint 4 lyfe).

The whole point of the mouse is a very high DPI sensor that would otherwise drain the batteries in a matter of hours.

My Deathadder used to have the dreaded double-click problem, but I kept using it anyways and it eventually disappeared. But the mousewheel also has issues so it needs to be replaced regardless (I can scroll down and end up above where I started).

I can't find a good mouse with thumb button placement that suits my claw grip though. On the Deathadder, I basically only have access to Mouse4 because putting my thumb forward enough to hit both Mouse4 and Mouse5 easily means my middle finger is too far forward to use the wheel (or rather the wheel button in this case, since the wheel has issues). I'm considering one of the RATs and attempting to customize it, but from what I've heard the build quality on them isn't much better than Razer's offerings.

I have the same problem with every mouse with two buttons on one side. Are you okay with one button on each side? If so, take a look at the Kana v2, it's a pretty darn good mouse.

Also, if it was wireless then people like me would've been much slower to buy it, if we bought it at all. Hell, I might've bought a G602 several months ago if it wasn't wireless.

It's a shame that they won't invest the development time necessary to completely rework their mice for wired and wireless versions, but it's quite understandable that they don't. Them's the breaks.

I think the buttons in the G502 are new and more solid. They definitely feel more authoritative in their clicking. Never managed to wear out a mouse button myself, though.

Does anyone know if there's a way to get both the Logitech Gaming Software and Flowscroll to both coexist peacefully? I've tried various combinations of installing them in certain orders, but I'm always left with either LGS working and flowscroll not, or the other way around. I love the super precise creamy smooth scrolling from flowscroll, but I also really dig mouse macros.

You're talking about the MX700, which I had a couple of back in the day (so I could put one in the charger dock while the other was on my desk!). They discontinued it with no replacement. Why? Who knows. MX700 was popular.

My dock was killed when a friend spilt ale on it, and replacements at that time became obscure. So of course, I went MX518. I did have an MX1000 briefly, but I gave it to a friend in exchange for a digital camera. The MX1000 was OK, but the shape was a bit unwieldy, and I never liked the tilting scroll wheel.

Mostly Harmless.
Based on my experience (along with others who I know also owned it), the MX700 would, without fail, reach a point where it would always require a lot of fiddling when placed in the charging cradle to actually charge. Cleaning the contacts sometimes helped, but not always.

It was a good mouse, but honestly too heavy for my taste, especially when I switched between two different sets of KB/M and the other one wasn't wireless (this was before adjustable weights were common). Both of the ones I owned also eventually developed the single-click registering as double-click issue, but that was after many years of use and so not terribly surprising.

The G700 and G700s both have the ability to be used wired and wireless. The battery life is significantly less than the G602, however.

When you don't like corded to begin with, or when you're in a team room and don't want any more wires on the table. I agree that more battery life is not something everybody needs or wants.

I got a G502 to replace my DA 3.5 and it feels pretty nice. Not a huge difference tracking wise but it feels good. It's a little heavy but nothing too outrageous and the feet glide a lot better than my DA. If they put the same sensor on a smaller mouse I'll probably switch to that. Mostly I'm happy to be rid of synapse.

I just got a refurbed G700 for $50 on Ebay. Finally got tired of using this Magic Mouse.. constantly gestures/scrolls when I don't mean to, and the right click is way too close to the left click. Those of you with a G502, if you move your wheel slightly (in free mode) and then let go, does it rotate by itself as if it's off balance? Like in certain spots, if I let go of the wheel, it'll spin down slightly as if there is a weight off-balance issue.

I'm thinking about exchanging mine for another one but I want to see if others have this issue first.

Mine does not do this.

The more I use this mouse the more I like it. The weight balance felt weird at first when I was lifting it off the pad but now I don't notice anything. I also have a Mionix Avior on the way and will see which of the two I like more.

Yeah the weight doesn't bother me, but it kind if rattles a bit inside when I have to put it down. I've been using the Avior all day and the ergonomics are not to my liking so I'm gonna try the Naos. The G502 does feel slightly more responsive but it could just be in my head.

I think high sensitivity players tend to like heavier mice.

Yes. I have this nervous thought in the back of my head that the mouse secretly feeds on my soul to power itself.

Edit: Just got my first 'battery at 5%' notification. So all in all the batteries that the mouse shipped with lasted a little over 3 months. The past few weeks I've been using the mouse entirely on performance mode as well, earlier I was using endurance outside of games. My standard DPI is 2500. I think this time round I'll leave the mouse on performance permanently to see how it lasts.

It's also worth noting that the mouse came with typical heavy duty alkaline batteries, but for my second set I've replaced them with top grade lithiums, so I should get even better life.
