Doeso anyone else absolutely hate the bottom left hand decklist on the sideboard screen? I can never find anything in it and scrolling is way too difficult. I really wish there were 2 more minutes to sideboard, since there's gem switching and finding your socketed cards is impossible. E: Also, take a good look at repel's art, it's the worst.

All Nines posted:^ Were those rares all from Pack 1? If so, that's insane. Well, the nice thing about dwarves is that a good artifact is a good grab regardless of shard type. So you can always safely draft a Charge Bot or a Sapper's Charge or whatever. Then if you get some elimination specialists or something you can throw them in without too much of a loss.

Dwarves is extremely flexible, you just draft at least 3-4 of 'win conditions', which can include pterobots, volcannons, war hulk plans, or several of the artifact rares. I've gone 3-0 with a deck that had no volcannons, only 1 pterobot, and a slaughtergear that I only played in a single game.

Since tournaments are working and game chat has picked up I just wanna drop in a reminder that we have an irc channel at #hex on irc.synirc.net in case people want to drop by and talk about drafts or whatever. It's gotten livelier lately now that people have stuff to actually talk about.

Drafted what I thought was a pretty good R/W deck with 4 troops socketed with the Intimidate gem, only to lose to this incredibly annoying mill deck with 2 Mesmerize, at least one Buccaneer, Mimic for that Buccaneer, fliers, Mirror Knight, and a Mastery of Time. I'm not sure how good the milling part of the deck actually was, but in the first game it actually decked me after keeping me off of my second shard so I couldn't deal with Mirror Knight, and in the second game it hit seemingly all my removal. At least I raredrafted an Inquisitor.

I've been consistently getting to the finals, but unable to seal a win by using evasive orcs. Gem Crazed Berserker and mazzat ranger with the Can't Be Blocked Except by Same Type gem have been getting me really far, then I see the bomb that got the other person in the finals to that point. Yesterday it soul marble. Before that, volcannon. I've really wanted to do dwarves, but it seems heavily drafted right after Diamond. I'm getting better, though.

Continuing on my remarks about Shards of Fate affecting different champions differently, I'm actually pretty pleasantly surprised by how many different champions are viable (at least in limited, I have no experience in constructed). I've either played or played against decks that used about a dozen different champions effectively. I think the only champions I havn't seen used are Bun'Jitsu (combines two troops into one), Fahrny (damage troop = highest cost artifact), Lady Elizabeth (put an Adamanthian Elite into hand), One Eye Open (untap your troops), and Polonius (make a 6/6). Of those, I suspect Bun'Jitsu, Fahrny, and Elizabeth are actually viable in the right deck. I don't see the other two being useful though.

Lady Elizabeth's fine if you're building a diamond deck that wants to curve out super hard so that you don't have anything in hand when you hit 5. I only went 1-1 when I used her because I didn't draft a good enough version of that deck, but it is definitely a plan.

The second draft I ever played I chose one eye open. My deck was full of the white tap a dude guy and the llanowar elf guys. If you have to mana dudes out, you can use it as ramp, or if you have 2 tap guys out you can tap their team. I've never used it after that match, because that deck just wanted that champion. I find myself using the create a bot guy or the target creature get's a -1/-1 or +1/+1 counter guys.

I just did a draft where I'm pretty sure no one wanted to play removal. Here's the deck sans shards: 1 Buccaneer 1 Captain of the Dragon Guard 3 Construction Plans: War Hulk 1 Devited Enussary 2 Gearsmith 1 Heroic Inspiration 2 Inner Conflict 1 Mastery of Time 1 Oracle Song 3 Peek 1 Polymorph Dingler 3 Repel 2 Time Ripple 1 Wind Whisperer My concern is that it is VERY reactionary, and the gear smiths don't seem that good with only 3 artifacts, but the construction plans are my main focus. I"m going to pick the the guy that makes robots with his charges and just try to hold out until I get some war hulks online. Maybe it'll suck, but I'm excited to try this deck out. E: Also, mastery of time doesn't seem that good in draft. E: I lost first round, whee Gross Dude fucked around with this message at 00:26 on May 13, 2014 |

Waiting for the second round of this current draft for probably half an hour, and then once I'm actually in I take both games in 5 and 6 turns respectively with S/R Fliers. Such is the life of an aggro player, I guess. RE underused champions: I don't think I've seen Kishimoto used against me, but I used him once with a Mono-Wild deck that went 2-1. He's pretty good if you have lots of evasive creatures. Dunno about S/W, as I haven't drafted it yet, but it seems like a lot of fun. EDIT: Finals-winning game ended more or less on turn 5 again. Flying Wrathseekers are just silly. All Nines fucked around with this message at 01:19 on May 13, 2014 |

Captain Capitalism posted:I don't think I get S/W. I've drafted it twice and lost first round both times. I'll have to look those cards over a little bit more. I did Sapphire/Wild a couple times in alpha and did OK. You want Feather Drifting Downriver as your champion and stuff like Boulder Brutes (spellshield or flight gems), T-Hexes, Ambershire Instigators, etc. As many big bulky creatures as you can get and as many good combat tricks (Sapphire and Wild Auras and Wild Growth) as you can get. You're really light on removal, with Polymorph: Dingler as your only unconditional hard removal, but if you have enough bulky creatures you can usually make Survival of the Fittest work (although you might have to 2-for-1 yourself). It really tends to be light on removal and slow, though, which is not a great combination. If you don't do spellshield on your Boulder Brutes it's also pretty susceptible to removal. Flying Spellshield Brutes with a buff or two are absolutely killer though.

A solid gameplan in any draft is to aim to have at least 12 playable creatures, of which most of them should be cheaper (between 1 and 3 mana) with a few expensive creatures capable of winning the game by themselves if left unchecked (these are generally referred to as bombs). This is a strange instance in which you drafted a ton of removal which is a good thing, but you don't have any real way to actually win the game.

I'm glad they fixed the AI hanging. The AIs are moronic and almost useless for testing a deck but sometimes I don't have the time for a tournament and don't want to play a competitive game, and having to restart five times because the AI would just sit there was annoying.

Looks like we don't get our rewards from the ones we were in, but it consumed the token used to enter. I made it to the second round and did okay, then finally lost when I mulliganed down to 5 while still managing to have all but one card in hand be a shard. Then I proceeded to draw shards, and only shards(including free draws from Wyatt), until my death. Didn't get any rewards for it, despite it being over an hour ago. Edit: ^^^ this. I hadn't touched a TCG in years until I learned about Hex. I don't want to see it ruined before it has even had a chance to really get going. Hell I even bought MTG Planeswalker so I could play some kind of digital TCG before the Hex alpha began. I've got to think that Cryptozoic checked with attorneys before ever even beginning full development on Hex. At least I'd hope so. I don't know anything about the World of Warcraft Tcg. Was it similar to Magic as well? If anything this shows that they do feel threatened by Hex's potential. Enough to want to bring it to court.
