On the moon... they don't make Neo Kobe Pizza.

Welcome to the latest revision of the PlayStation Import Megathread, from humble beginnings as just the PlayStation 3 import thread to the updated and streamlined PlayStation Import Megathread which encompassed multiple platforms.

As the table of contents suggests, we cover every major relevant PlayStation platform. This new thread revision features PlayStation 4 in both Blu-ray and Digital formats, but also offers PlayStation 3, Vita, Portable, and all the digital titles offered through Sony's Game Archives program. You'll find many different kinds of games in this thread, from battling anime robots, cats playing minigolf, gardening simulators, and more. I suggest that before you dive head first into the thread you take a few moments to read the rest of this post, as it contains a few important guidelines on how the thread is formatted.

1 -- Introduction and Rules
2 -- PlayStation 4: Blu-ray
3 -- PlayStation 4: Digital
4 -- PlayStation 3: Blu-ray
5 -- PlayStation 3: Digital
6 -- PlayStation Vita: Cartridge and Digital
7 -- PlayStation Portable: UMD and Digital
8 -- Game Archives: PS1, PS2, PC Engine

    General Thread Content
  • The games offered in this thread are tailored to a North American audience, but this does not exempt users from outside North America from participating in this thread. This just means that some titles in your native region may be listed. Questions pertaining to importing products from North America are perfectly acceptable.

  • Some titles offered are not yet available for purchase, in which case the purchase links will lead to pre-orders pages if available. Some products may not have a pre-order page even offered yet on the site, but the link will still direct to the search result for when they are available.

  • Most Japanese titles presented in this thread are "import friendly". This means that they're games which are accessible to people who are Japanese illiterate. This does not mean that the games have English-language options, but rather there are translation guides or other materials linked to make the game easier to understand. Many of these games have robust translation guides that will help you complete these games with little difficulty. You will typically find these materials located in the game's listing itself, but some titles do not have any kind of translation guides.

  • You may notice that some titles in this thread have superscripted numbers next to their names, in example: Game Title 1. These numbers indicate that there is a certain fact you should know about said game before purchasing it. You can find the addendum for these numbers at the bottom of each list.

  • Every game on this list features a small image containing three other images. I call this a filmstrip. Simply click this image to be linked to a slideshow gallery to get a better look at these images.

    PlayStation Network Content and Payment
  • All of the PlayStation Network games covered in this thread come from three distinct regions: the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Japan.

  • You cannot use a credit card from your home region on a foreign region PlayStation Network account. You must buy a prepaid PlayStation Network card.

  • You cannot use a prepaid PlayStation Network card from your home region on a foreign region PlayStation Network account. You must buy one from the region you wish to purchase from.

    Game Rating Identification
  • The region of most physical media can be identified by examining the game rating indicator, typically located on the lower left hand corner of the game's front box art.

CERO: This is the Japanese video game rating system. Many Japanese games that are released throughout the greater part of Asia will typically not have a CERO rating label, rather one fitting their own country (i.e. South Korea) or omit the rating label entirely (i.e. China, Hong Kong, Taiwan). The lack of a rating label on a game released in Asia does NOT mean it is an illegitimate copy of said game, rather that the country of its release did not have a rating board.

PEGI: This is the European video game rating system. PEGI is the most commonly used variant throughout Europe but there are different individual ratings boards in different countries, such as the United Kingdom and Germany. All this means is that you'll have a second or third ugly looking rating icon on your box art. PEGI is pretty standard so you should be fine.

  • High and Standard Definition TV resolutions
If your PlayStation 3 is connected by HDMI to an HDTV then you can skip this rule.

The PlayStation 3 may have near 100% region freedom for its Blu-ray selection but there is one minor restriction that may prevent you from playing your new game: SDTV resolutions. If you play on an SDTV (or certain HDTVs not operating on HDMI connection) and plan to import a game from Europe/Australia, then you should be very careful before doing so. The PlayStation 3 has a built-in system that prevents users from playing certain games if the default resolution of the game is one that the TV in your home region does not actually support.

"Standard definition" in Europe is 576i while North America and Japan's are 480i.

If you attempt to play a standard definition European game on a North American/Japanese PS3 through an SDTV/non-HDMI video hookup, the PS3 will not be able to display the game and prevent you from running it. A popular example of a PAL PlayStation 3 game operating on 576i is the European Blu-ray release of SIREN: Blood Curse.

  • This post covers the PlayStation Network regions in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Japan
  • You must have a registered PSN account for the region where the game you want to purchase comes from.
  • You can have a limit of 16 "active account" Users on a single PlayStation 3.
  • Each PSN account has a limit of 2 activations per console format, a PS3 using the account counts for 1 PS3 activation.
  • Each PSN store is default set to the language of the region it is located in.
  • If you use the PSN web store, remember to log out of it first before accessing a foreign web store.
  • All previously established rules about credit and PSN cards in Post 1 apply
  • All rules about TV definitions in relation to Euro-American importing apply.

How to create a Japanese PlayStation Network account
SA forums poster drasticactions has created an incredible guide to creating your very own Japanese PlayStation Network account which you can read right here.

How to create a foreign PlayStation Network account
  • Step 1: Navigate to your PlayStation 3's "Users" tab on the far left hand side of the XMB menu and select "Create New User". Try to name this user something that reflects what region you plan to access with it, such as "My <Region> Account" or "<Your PSN Name><Region>", to help you remember what it's used for.

  • Step 2: Log into the PlayStation Network as the new user and access the PlayStation Store, you should see the PlayStation Network registration page. Select to sign up to the PlayStation Network and choose to create a new account.

  • Step 3: When asked to choose your new account's region, simply select the region you wish to create the account for. The United Kingdom and Hong Kong will allow you to continue the process in English, but selecting Japanese will change the form's language to that language. Consult this video for detailed instructions at this point.

  • Step 4: Follow the instructions on screen and fill out all the information as needed. Feel free to use fake names but you may have to use a real address, if so then simply look up an address in your chosen region (try a restaurant!) and continue as normal. Please use a real e-mail in case of future password loss.

  • Step 5: Now all that's left is to finish the registration process then sign into the PlayStation Network to access all the digital content for your new foreign account!

  • All digital content offered is selected from the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Japan PlayStation Network stores.
  • PlayStation Vita can only maintain 1 active account at any given time, a factory reset of the PS Vita itself is required to switch.
  • All DLC will remain registered to the account it was purchased/redeemed for and cannot be used across multiple accounts. This includes Online Passes.
  • All future "Custom Firmware" and Homebrew titles will not be listed.
  • If you use the PSN web store, remember to log out of it first before accessing a foreign web store.
  • PS Vita TV will not allow you to use a non-Japanese PSN account, you'll have to wait for a local region release if you don't plan on using a Japanese account.

How to create a Japanese PlayStation Network account
SA forums poster drasticactions has created an incredible guide to creating your very own Japanese PlayStation Network account which you can read right here.

Switching the active account on a PS Vita
This process is required for users planning to import digital versions of games for the PS Vita.

The PS Vita has inherited some of the PSP's concepts of account activation. Vita, just like the PSP, can only maintain one active PSN account at any given time and requires an "account switch" in order to access foreign regions. A single memory card can only hold and use content from one account, meaning that users will require multiple memory cards in order to have multiple active PSN accounts on a single Vita.

IGN has fortunately created an exhaustive video on how his procedure works, please take the time to view it as to better understand how PS Vita account switching works.

On the moon... they don't make Neo Kobe Pizza.

  • This post assumes you are using a PSP operating on Official Firmware. There will not be any listings or mentions for games with Custom Firmware translations or hacks.
  • PlayStation Portable "UMDs" (Universal Media Discs) have region freedom in only a gaming capacity. A native PSP cannot play a foreign region UMD movie.
  • Digital PlayStation Portable titles require a special process of "account switching" in order to play.

  • Switching the active account on a PSP
This process is required for users planning to buy PSP games digitally from the PlayStation Network.

Sony designed the PlayStation Portable only to maintain a single active PlayStation Network account at any given time, as opposed to the PlayStation 3 which can support up to 16 simultaneously. This means that if you import a digital PSP game off a foreign region PlayStation Network store, you must perform a process known as an "account switch" to enable the usage of that game. This process must be made again to switch to any account with PSP games you wish to play digitally.

Here are two methods in which you can switch your PSP's active account

    Media Go

As we begin, download Sony's media management program Media Go and install it to your computer. PSP Go users will have this on a disc in the box with their unit. After installing Media Go, follow these steps to set your PSP to a foreign region:
    - Log into the PlayStation Network account of your home region through Media Go
    - Download a small piece of PSP downloadable content (or a demo) which requires account verification, such as a Rock Band Unplugged track. I recommend "Still Alive" as its free.
    - Log out then proceed to do those two steps again with every foreign region PSN account that has PSP games to switch to, try to find DLC or demos.
    - After you have verifiable content from all your accounts downloaded to Media Go, connect your PSP to the computer VIA the PSP's USB cable.
    - To switch to your desired PSN account, choose to transfer that account's verifiable content to the PSP. You will receive a notification about the PSP's current active account and if you wish to change it, agree to it.
    - Let the content download onto your PSP. Congratulations, now your PSP's set active account is to the region of your foreign PSP game!

    The PSP

I'm not very familiar with this method, but you can switch your Active Account without the use of Media Go. Here's how I understand it works:
    - Turn on your PSP and go to the PlayStation Network section
    - Go to Account Management and hit the Triangle button to bring up a list of commands.
    - Select "Delete Account" which removes the currently existing activation from the PSP
    - Log into the PlayStation Network using the foreign account you wish to activate
    - Go to the PlayStation Store and download a piece of content that requires account verification, such as most demsos or a piece of free DLC
    - When the download and installation are complete, your PSP should be activated to that account.

I had no idea Thunderforce V was on PSN. This is the game that made me love shmups when I got it for the Saturn, and I highly recommend it just to experience how insanely disgusting the Free Range weapon is. The soundtrack is amazing, too.

Also, minor correction: Gradius isn't a Namco game, it's Konami! But that doesn't matter, all that matters is that people buy it and play the hell out of it.

Well, those sure are some lists all right. drat, this is going to send me to the poor house.

Some suggestions:

- For Japanese PSN codes, these guys seem to be the cheapest, I've ordered from them a few times and it's always gone really smoothly: http://jp-ecards.ocnk.net/

- I have a hunch few will care, but the Hong Kong PSN has a version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3) that's playable with English text (or Chinese or I think Japanese) but has Japanese audio, and is I think the only way to get the game with that combination of choices (or on disc from Hong Kong). The same applies to FF13, although that game is only on disc. Lightning Returns you can get the Japanese audio as DLC on the Western editions of the game.

- Again, doubtful many would care, but you can pick up Ground Zeroes on PS3 and/or PS4 (it's digitally upgradeable for 1080 yen) from the Japanese PSN and get Japanese audio with the original cast (and English or Japanese subtitles), with the opening credits changed to reflect this. There's a bonus tape of "Peace and Kazuhira Blues", a Japanese Drama CD released previously in Japan with an extra side story that gives you English subtitles officially for the first time (or, you know, watch it on YouTube). The infamous scene at the end of the main mission is censored by repositioning the camera for key parts to avoid getting a CERO Z rating.

It should also be noted that most of those Game archive titles listed here (Harmful Park, Ori no Ryouri, LSD) are free on the JPN PS+. The February/March archive dump had the original Crash, Spryo, Ape Escape and Ori no Ryouri.

Most of the time the games that get put up for free on the archives are... um... well, sometimes it's obscure RPGs (Most of which don't have translations, but trust me when I say that you're not missing much :v:), visual novels, or Simple 1500 series games, which I think by this point have all been posted for free... because they are terrible.

A lot of these games have translation guides that you can refer to while you play. You eventually acclimate to what you're playing after a couple hours and learn how the game works to the point where you may only need the guide every once in awhile, like I learned Super Robot Wars and now I can play most of them without much assistance other than the odd mechanic or item description I need laid out for me. If you're looking for something simple, go with an action or fighting game.

J-Stars Victory VS is a really cool fighting game that, being an anime crossover game, has an absolute truckload of translation materials with screenshots and even videos to explain the basic menus and mechanics. You've got your Warriors/Warriors-clones like the Samurai Warriors 3/3: Empires, Sengoku BASARA, Kamen Rider, and Saint Seiya. Another Century's Episode R is a mecha game that (for the most part) requires very little in the way of Japanese comprehension. I've been told that Onechanbara Z Kagura is almost like 9/10s English as it is, so you could play that entire thing without even having a guide. Stuff like Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku is deep end though, avoid that.

I might go back to Idolmaster 2 while I wait for the newer version to arrive, so I was wondering if anyone here knew what kind of performances I should be choosing at the start of the game: the guides have been good at how you play the game, but the few I've tried so far have been to hard to hit the target if it feels like I've pulled it off almost perfectly.

I like the Tawan-developed F2P MMORPG Onigiri PS4 from J-PSN. Now now, put down those pitchforks, I know it's a ridiculous and shameful fanservice fest that's so nearly pornagraphic it's hard to even watch the trailers, but honestly I almost feel like buying it just to see the crazy cooking action. Watching the trailer, I can't help but think how fun it would be to play a decent-looking rhythm game while in the background my character goes ninja on some ingredients to make some crazy Iron Chef-esque meal, which a guy then eats and gives you a score by yelling 'DELICIOUS' so loud it rips your clothes off to varying degrees.

On the PSN it's ¥7,180, which would be around $70.Even though J-Stars is perfectly fine I don't think $70 is worth it for any Vita game, but that's just me. So for that, $66 or around that seems about right. It terms of the Vita handheld itself, it does not have region locks on cartridges so you should be fine there.

I've not played much of EXVS but I prefer Gundam Breaker for what it's worth. To be honest they're rather different games, one is about 2v2 fights with different suits from across the various Gundam fictions and the others a totally not Dynasty Warriors game where you get to pilot your frankensuit made from various mobile suits.

edit: Also info on GBreaker:

It's really worth looking up one of the many module translation guides, some of them do very useful things and with the right set up you can do amusing things such as be constantly in Trans-Am/NT-D/WoL mode, never stop firing all the heavy arms weapons or just gain so much health on hit you never die as long as you keep hitting things. :black101:

In the parts build menu press Start and then Triangle to build all parts and only keep new/better parts. You can sell all your parts stock at once by press Square at the main store page.

Some parts can be equipped as multiple things, you can probably guess what can do what just from knowing enough about Gundam but if you want to check you can press Select to toggle between your stats, your current available option parts (blue means it's adding that option, red means you're losing that option and white is what you already have) and a part description. If something can be equipped it will say [HG <moon speak>] or [MG <moon speak].

Like wise if the part has an EX action associated with it, it will also say in that text box.

Make sure to grab the latest patch if you haven't already, it adds a bunch of new content. Something like 40 missions and 15-ish suits.

There isn't an MG Build Strike for some reason, only HG.

The drop rates for more... important parts of some suits (Turn A torso, Gundam X Backpack, GN Sword 3, Deathscythes... Scythe) are really bad but drop rates are better online and you can generally find someone to help you by using a Satellite cannon to rip an ace unit to pieces.

On the note of ripping suits to pieces; parts are more likely to drop from the respective parts on the suit if you break them off, as well as this each part knocked off of an ace unit drops about as much as just killing it normally. That is if you were to kill an Ace before lopping off an arm or something it drops 3 things, if you lop off a part and then kill it that part also drops 3 things, etc.

Add Luminaflare and AzMiLion on the PSN if you want to play online, we both have some decent high grade gimmick builds we can help out with.

Add Luminaflare and AzMiLion on the PSN so we can murderhobo together? This game gets infinitely more fun with more people. Also generally the Japanese players are pretty chill about US/EU players, just don't try to talk at them.(unless you speak Japanese)

Don't worry about grinding out High Grade parts unless you've hit a brick wall progress wise.

Maxing out a single suit is in some cases the better option, the 00 Raiser and the Deathscythe both turn into murder-machines, 00 Raiser due to the Raiser system, Deathscythe due to the looney tunes levels of damage the scythe does.

For farming parts brining a satelite cannon is probably your best bet, since it breaks everything into pieces.

Great call about the Konami Shooting Collections. I had no idea those existed and they definitely deserve to go up. I also initially passed on Gunstar Heroes: Treasure Box thinking it was just some low-rent PS2 port that was unnecessary as NA/EU already has the Gunstar Heroes PS3 port, but the benefits definitely merit putting it up here. What happened to the PS1 Classics though? I haven't checked it in the better part of a year and absolutely nothing of note has come up for it.
