If you do embedded work you gotta know vi. It's tiny enough to fit on embedded systems so you can futz around with them in realtime, you're not tied to fixing files locally and transferring them over, which is a pain in the rear end.

Can we please keep talking about vi and emacs for like five more pages oh yeeeaaah. For content there was an awesome looking 8mm projector up on an auction site this morning. I wanted it badly even though I have absolutely no use for it. I mean, look at it. Imagined has a new favorite as of 15:37 on May 15, 2014 |

Lately I keep having (literal, during sleep) dreams where I am overcome with nostalgia and longing for some kind of software I used to use. I don't think it actually exists/existed because the things I see in the dreams are very contradictory. But hey let's try and list some details from the dreams anyway: It is some kind of chat room / game launcher thing that had at least LAN if not internet, you'd chat with people and play games together. The games were 2d I think. Sometimes in the dreams I feel like it was "were I first played Minecraft" or something, which is wrong, so maybe it had falling sand or something. It may have been something I used at some sort of school/daycare sort of thing, but early teens-ish. I'm 31 now. Sometimes it feels like it had a sprite based GUI thing going on, sometimes it seems like mostly text based. Sometimes it even feels like it had some sort of wacky dedicated hardware like a game console. If there is anything that jumps to mind that fits some of these details lemme know. I realize this post is dumb as hell but it's bugging me so if there is closure to be had I'd like it. Feel free to use this post as a jumping off point to talk about obsolete game launchers / chat services though too (I once ran a server for ThePalace).

I actually dug out my old RCA Lyra yesterday and put some music on it (after a hunt for a mini-USB instead of micro ) because it has a little armband for biking and stuff. I have the 256mb model because the 128 I had first had a volume button fail and they sent me a new model with more space. I have like two whole albums on it guys!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys, those are pretty cool things to check out in an internet history sense. Sadly nothing triggering waves of recognition yet, but neat regardless. Another thing sort of along these lines that I can think of is http://www.maidmarian.com/ with their retarded 3D chatroom games. Moon Base Chat is my favorite, you can jump from the Moon to the Earth if you do it right.

It was unfinished and impossible to beat, but he had dreams of the game's ending. The guy that made the game cut all ties with society and became a hermit living in his parents' house or something (???) and the narrator went to meet the guy in person. The guy gave the narrator an old school floppy or Amiga tape that had the finished game, I think. He beat the game and it had some kind of twist or revelation. Can't remember. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Looking for the webpage right now but I can't remember the game's title or anything else that will help me track it down.
