That's the problem. It's almost biologically preordained that half the population could try it once and never look back, but there are a whole lot of people out there who find it virtually impossible to avoid buying that IAP pack of "extra moves" when you can literally see that you were one single move short and the finishing move is sitting. Right. There.

Yes, I fall in the latter group. I'm not proud to say that I'm around level 280 in CCS, but I'm damned if I'll touch anything else by King, and I feel the need to disclaim that I've "only" spent about 20 bucks total on CCS in over a year.

Goddamnit, that's 20 bucks too much, but still it could be worse. I bet there are people out there dropping thousands on that godforsaken app.

Help me out here. There was a game about a year or so ago where you played as an alien monster, that was a mechanical snake thing and you added units to it and there was some wierd puzzle mechanic and you helped it along as it attacked cities in the US.

I need to remember the name of it.

It's doing its intro sale thing right now, so five bucks. Definitely worth it in my book for the time I've invested so far. 8 mission types including three historical, 6 types of ships with a dozen plus upgrades, captain cards you play for one turn boosts, a pretty good wind mechanic, online asynch, pass and play, AI single player, a chat room where people seem to be speaking pirate at the moment.

I've been playing this as well and I'm liking it a whole lot. The AI has been absolutely kicking my rear end, though. I think I've managed to win a grand total of one game against it. At least my multiplayer matches are going a bit better.

They eased this a bit by introducing the wheel of boosters. Haven't spent any real money on it in several months, since that update.

I'm on the wagon for now, though.

The closest they get is with the sillier metal slug units; you get an ostrich and elephant from daily unlocks, and you can get a monkey as a pay unit.

I'm about 3/4 finished with XCom - and coincidentally decide to play some missions last night on my iPad Air. I crashed to the springboard twice, rebooted, crashed again and said gently caress it. It's been a few months since I played, but I never had issues before.

I bought the two alien characters that are unlocked when you complete everything and really regretted it after seeing them in battle. I wish there was any rhyme or reason to POWs, makes trying to collect them all more of a chore when I'm just replaying levels hoping to snag one.

I went in without any foreknowledge of what the game was supposed to be (aside from being a WH40K fan), and I enjoyed it well enough. A little repetitive in terms of mechanics (to be expected) but there is a ton of content and unlockables. If you have any desire at all for it, you probably won't be disappointed, and it's definitely worth the reduced price in that case.

It's a good way to kill time on long flights, too.

I at least find the POW system better than the Medal System from Battle Cats. Nothing was more infuriating than trying to upgrade a Silver to a Gold, getting nothing repeatedly, and then finally getting a Medal, only for it to be a Bronze. At least with POWs, levels can have varying "difficulty" to max out (i.e. you don't need 3 POWs for each level, like you do in Battle Cats), and you don't get to see the times you roll POW levels under the level you've already unlocked. It's not a huge difference, but it makes the grind less frustrating to me.
