It's not really his fault that Pecota or whatever the gently caress it was that gave him that stupid projection was all busted.

The projection system was obviously a mess that year. I think it had the Eastern League, which is the AA affiliate Wieters played at, as like...basically the NL in terms of Davenport translations so of course him OPSing 1.000 there made him look like Mickey Mantle: The Catcher to PECOTA.

Quick question:

For throwback day, the Rangers were wearing uniforms with what looked like the letters "BP" on them. I know the Rangers were the second Senators originally, but I have no idea what that uniform represented.

Any clues?

I've seen games go perfect for 12 innings all for naught. I've seen no-hitters pitched on illicit drugs. Homer streaks lasting eight games and 20 run losses. I've seen pennants won and seasons collapse. All these memories will be lost in time. Like tears in the rain.

Time to die.

What he said. Also, it's not 'throwback day', it's the Tigers' Negro Leagues Weekend. That's why the throwback jerseys are always Negro League jerseys.

Every year, the Tigers honor an African-American former Tiger. This year, it was Bill Bruton, a centerfielder from 1960 to 1964, although honoring African-American former Tiger Prince Fielder would've been fun.

I knew I didn't like AA anymore about a year after that trade when I was out with a friend who brought a main Jays beat guy along who told us that it was an open secret that Napoli was traded because they didn't want his wild-partying ways to badly influence the younger Jays players (Lawrie I assume?).

AA believes in closer mentality and bad clubhouse guys.

Howard Eskin is a piece of poo poo, chapter 26

quote:

This may have been something brewing for a while, but Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon and sports media veteran Howard Eskin apparently needed to be separated in the Phillies clubhouse before Saturday afternoon’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“Whoa. Eskin and Papelbon just got into a heated verbal argument by the Phils dugout. Both had to be restrained. Paps went up to Eskin & said something. Eskin said so etching back and Paps was escorted away by PR guy and Eskin was held back by security.” (Via @AntScaramuzzi)

Eskin has been taking Papelbon to task in recent weeks, most notably since Papelbon stated he could not a pitch a third straight game in a weekend series on the road against the New York Mets.

Last week Eskin was tweeting at Ashley Papelbon, Jonathan’s wife, asking about whether or not the Phillies were misleading reporters about Papelbon meeting up with Jacoby Ellsbury. The rumor was Papelbon was unavailable for the third straight game against the Mets because he was out late and possibly hungover, but Ashley Papelbon said that was clearly not the case. Eskin stuck to his reporting and information anyway.
