I was looking up some videos on YouTube for Dead or Alive 5 since I just picked it up used and was wondering how a tournament organizer prepares their consoles ahead of time to all have the unlockable characters unlocked ahead of time? In DOA5 for example there are 3 characters that can only be unlocked by earning an achievement, not by simply purchasing them like in Street Fighter x Tekken. Does the organizer have to get people to bring their own consoles wroth those characters unlocked? Having enough consoles ready for everyone to be able to use unlocked characters would be impossible given the time it would take to unlock these characters. The competition footage I watched had several matches between unlockable characters which made me think of it.

Depends on the game. If you are able to just copy the save onto as many system as you want then someone just needs to unlock it once. For some games you gotta have a bunch of people just grinding the game nonstop before the first tournaments. DOA5 in particular though, theres an option in VS mode to unlock everything just for that session.
