"This patio will keep you out of the way while I commit murder!" God, I love Viz. They get the tone and style of the Beano just right, and then make it completely not suitable for kids.

It's in Viz most months, so in that, or, probably, the newer Viz annuals.

By all accounts Ronnie is actually a very nice, well adjusted guy who just shares some hobbies with his comic persona. Comic Ronnie is him laughing at himself more than loathing.

It probably won't be long until absolutely nobody will get this joke. Hell, I'm surprised it was printed as late as 1990.

I've read a few Viz annuals at a bar and every single page of them was consistently naff pedestrian poo poo that only the most dull-minded of individuals would ever voluntarily read (). Are these Drunken Bakers a new development?

Drunken Bakers have been around a while, though the books you read may have been wayyyy older. Besides the Farmer/Healey stuff (http://farmerhealey.com/index.htm) a lot of the stuff in the Viz mostly resonates if you grew up reading the Beano and Dandy where most comics started with "Young Timmy Black was the luckiest boy in town, for he owned a magical pair of slippers" or whatever. Also 8 Ace.

Anyone have old Cat and bear strips saved? I think they're gone, or else my google-fu is weak. "Cat and bear comic" doesn't narrow it down a lot, even if I add some phrases I remember from it. The ones that stick out for me are the one where the cat makes a bunch of paper cranes, and another where the bear starts a forest fire and gets handcuffed by Smokey.

Pilchenstein posted:Yeah, stuff like "Harold & Fred" up there or "The Adventures of Pol Pot & Idi Amin" is a spot on parody of those comics. They sometimes do it more blatantly, like with "Desperately Unfunny Dan" or, after DC Thompson threatened to sue them "DC Thompson: The Humourless Scottish Git". Top Tips are nearly always good though. quote:MARRIED women. Bored of having sex with the same man again and again? Simply sit on your husband's cock until it goes numb and Hey Presto! It feels like someone else is banging you. e: quote:HUSBANDS. Tired of sleeping with the same wife? Simply lie on top of her until she goes numb, and Hey Presto! She'll feel like someone else's wife.
