For We Hate Movies, or any bad movie podcast, I think their better episodes are when they are talking a truly bad movie. I don't know about that. The Tuff Turf and Hard Target episodes are pretty good.

Yea they've shown they can handle making fun of guilty pleasure movies plenty of times before. Mortal Kombat is a lovely movie, it's just a fun kind of lovely like (insert near every not-Rocky 1 Stallone movie here) or (insert literally any movie with Wilford Brimley here) or (All of Jessie Ventura's career including his WWF life). There's plenty to laugh at and there's nothing wrong with them going 'yea it was a pretty good lovely movie' at the end.

It's a movie that took Mortal Kombat at face value, and because of that they made a face value Mortal Kombat movie. It's not good, but it was exactly what a MK movie was supposed to be.

What are some all time favorite WHM episodes? I gotta go with: 1. Battle for Endor: Gave us first taste of Wilford Brimley, and Eric's classic joke when the Ewoks start massacring the villains: "This was the orcs' Vietnam" 2. Tuff Turf: For Jack Mack alone, plus the sheer oddness of James Spader as an action hero 3. K-911: If only for the frequent observations of why Jim Belushi would get the chair, and the crime spree he embarked on

Pippi Longstockings is great if only for their horse impressions. "You'll get the chair Pippi! The chaaaaaaaaaaaaair". Blame it on Rio, while vile, also includes them being tortured horribly by the worst movie they've ever done. Batman Forever is another great one too.

In no particular order: 1. Halloween 3, just for all the non-horror and the legend of Tom Atkins, drinking ninja. Also the Muldoon's business plan. 2. Ghostbusters 2 because it's an amazing breakdown of every reason the movie didn't work. 3. Poison Ivy/Blame It On Rio for the reactions to the utterly skeevy parts. 4. Hamburger and Joysticks, because I grew up with those boob comedies. 5. Babycakes and Addicted to Love, because they're great at pointing out how they're not so much romantic comedies as much as stalker documentaries. 6. Hackers, because hackers.

Hider in the House for the best example of a movie they come to love -- another thing WHM does better than any of the others (when was the last time The Flop House actually enjoyed a movie, on any level of irony?)

The Pallbearer is a good one, basically any episode with "good" impressions cracks me up. edit: I think the Mortal Kombat episode will be fine, it's kind of been talked to death at this point and is ultimately neither bad or good, but hopefully it won't be as annoying as the HDTGM version. Listening to them attempt to understand the movie and characters was honestly embarassing. The Duke fucked around with this message at 04:39 on Jun 10, 2014 |

Dracula 2000 is the best episode. "More nails for you Doubting Thomas!" Recently, Mrs. Doubtfire and Butterfly Effect are fantastic. The MK episode is great so far. It's very much a We Love Movies episode.

That was a really fun episode; I think they actually name-dropped everyone in the first three games. I'm also glad I'm not the only person who liked Stryker in MK3. And man, I remember the days where Nudality rumors were actually a thing. They almost appeared in an actual arcade game, too.

Random Stranger posted:Summer blockbuster month means that the superhero movie is more likely. Could still be either. Swordfish was a big budget summer movie (budget of $102 million), and while it only made $147 million, I remember people were everywhere talking about it summer of 2001. I guess, pre-9-11, Halle Berry going topless was enough to consume the country's thoughts.

Yup, as I remember it, she was reading a magazine or book or something, Hugh Jackman asks her a question, she drops the book and is topless. Then they talk real quick, and the scene ends. It was there solely to get people talking.

Because of course Halle Berry just lounges around reading that topless. I looked it up because for some reason I remembered it as her holding one of those sun tanning reflector things. Which it turns out is only marginally dumber.

I just listened to the Butterfly Effect episode and I forgot how much of the movie depends on Ashton Kutcher doing the weirdest wrong poo poo possible. Like instead of calling the cops or at the very least telling the dad to leave his whole family alone he specifically says "Leave your daughter alone and focus all your energy on DISCIPLINING your son!". That's such a loving dumb move to make, or deciding to straight up murder the girl's brother after he was incapacitated because.....why? Also they're totally right at how dumb it is to imply an entire college age group of people will just burst out laughing at a disabled person falling out of a wheelchair. I'm sure there's one or two assholes, but everyone? Really?

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the writers were the type of people who would laugh at a situation like that. Do they even explain in-movie how he lost his limbs in the first place?

I thought it was because he tried to stop the woman and the baby being blown up by the mailbox bomb, and he got blown up instead. I think my favourite WHM eps have got to be Tuff Turf, the Glass House (I couldn't stop cracking up whenever they said glass anything in that episode), Foodfight, the Butterfly Effect one was fantastic as was Mrs Doubtfire, North and, hell, even Casper. I think when they do a silly kids' movie or a bad Lifetime movie or a "heartwarming" (creepy) movie it generally ends up being fantastic, as well as those skeezy erotic thrillers. When they review something dumb and karate-ish, or a boob comedy, it's still fun - but I don't think those episodes end up being as funny because everyone knows that those movies are bad, even people who like watching them, and they tend to be bad in just the way you'd expect.

I think my favorite episode has to be Hard Target. I've gotten 5 people to listen to them regularly by having them listen to that episode. Everyone just loses when they get to the part where Wilford Brimley finds out who's directing the movie. "WHAT?!" *pan outside the building* "WHAT?!?!"
