Yes. I thought I'd seen the last of that commercial (and the associated twitter campaign and other garbage) but it appears to be coming back. Who watches that commercial and wants to buy the product as a result? We should off them.

What is the product, anyway? The commercial makes it look like a cookie dipped in cool whip. Morning win.

Nothing But Cereal Marshmallows™ isn't a new concept. I remember back in ye olden dayes of 1990 or so, I was reaching for a box of Kellogg's Bigg Mixx cereal when I looked over at the bagged cereal, and there they were. A smiling wizard holding a pitcher of milk on the bag assured me that these were the real thing. I remember the bag stating that they were meant to be added to any cereal you wanted that didn't have marshmallows, but you know the hambeasts of 1990 (too small, faded, stretched neck hole New Kids on the Block t-shirt, puffy polyester day-glo shorts, black pleather fanny pack, dirty, worn-out British Knights sneakers) ate that poo poo straight from the bag as soon as they got out to the car. Even then I knew that poo poo would have been nasty. I never tried it once, and it disappeared soon thereafter, just like Kellogg's Bigg Mixx and New Kids on the Block.

I get poo poo from my friends but I'd love the exact opposite. The marshmallows just have this weird texture that makes me cringe. I also tend to like my cereal slightly soggy rather than super crunchy so what the gently caress to I know. The greatest cereal is oops all berries though, and that's the truth.

I remember reading Steve Jobs' biography and everything falling into place when the book was discussing Apple's advertising strategy. It's all about getting the audience to feel a particular feeling, and then associating that feeling with Apple products. It doesn't matter what the product is, what it does, or how it does it, the core of almost every Apple ad is just 'using this product will make you feel good'. It's an incredibly effective strategy; even though I know exactly what their ads are trying to do I find myself getting sucked into them more often than not.

We covered that one a few pages back, yeah. I guess the LifeAlert people figured that since everyone in the old commercials is now dead with the passing of C. Everett Koop, they'd go hard in the other direction and get their revenge on everyone that's made fun of their commercials for the last three decades.

Admittedly, though, that commercial just bothered the hell out of me, but mainly because I've been in environments where that happens and have known people who've had stuff like that happen to them or their families. I'm sort of reminded a bit of how about 15 or so years ago when Orkin also went sort of 'scary' in one of their commecials. It was either one of the ones that looked like roaches were crawling on your TV screen, but it was pretty powerful in showcasing to people WHY they needed pest control. At the same time, some people thought it went a bit too far in shocking people and maybe even painted a poor image of the industry. A funny anecdote in this article about that commercial, though. http://lubbockonline.com/stories/040800/ent_040800037.shtml lubbockonline posted:About 300 viewers have called or written in, some to complain that they were sickened by the sight, or that their dogs and cats have lunged at the set. So far two people have broken their TVs by throwing objects at them, including a woman who threw a motorcycle helmet, according to the company.
