When your showrunner is on record as going "well we just tried to see how far we could push it before the FCC shut us down" it's not artistic intent, it's trying to see what you can get away with Hth

Occ has talked about Hannibal at length before and it basically boils down to him having really really strange problems with televised violence from what I recall and him admitting he just fundamentally couldn't get past this. It's lame he's kinda going back on that right now.

No I'm not, that's my entire argument for why the show is bad, it's just a well-shot criminal minds that uses its conceit as an excuse to ghoulishly focus on extremely lurid acts of violence which are shot-with the slow pans and close ups and all- in a way to force the audience to focus on it to the exclusion of everything else

E PLURIBUS ANUS posted:Actors submit for their categories, she figured she has a much better chance to win in supporting (which she does) I understand that, but it's still loving stupid. I mean, at least with Fargo, you can make the case that it narrowly fits the definition of a miniseries based on what has been released about the as-yet unconfirmed second season. With Tolman, there is literally no person who can be trusted not to choke themselves getting dressed in the morning who would describe her role as a supporting one. It's blatant vote gaming. Why even bother splitting the categories if you aren't making an effort to abide by them?

Anyone who watched Fargo and walked away thinking it had anything to say about fat women is brain damaged. Allison Tolman is not grossly obese like Melissa McCarthy, nor does she proudly display her cottage cheese covered rolls like Lena Dunham. Her character is just a normal person doing a normal person's job, for gently caress's sake.

precision posted:Occupation trolling harder than Ravane all up ins. Hannibal is a bad show? I like Hannibal. And Occupation is entitled to his own opinion. It might not represent the majority, doubly so with his fondness of "The Leftovers," but he is entitled to it nonetheless. However, his argument against Hannibal makes little sense. He should be making the comparison that if pornography, which is an extreme version of the beauty of human sexuality, can not be considered artistic, then Hannibal which offers gratuitous violence as its mode of entertainment should not bear artistic value either. But this, of course, probes the inner meaning of the show: what constitutes art? Hannibal doesn't demonstrate his artistic ability through these violent acts. He chooses his victim carefully, a person he values less than dirt. He kills this person, like he kills every person, without emotion, apathetic to his victim's past. And he recreates him. He envisions himself as God; he is an artist recreating this terrible carbon form into a flawless diamond for all to admire. It's not the violent act itself that's artistic, no matter how great the cinematography may be. It's the end product. The dish and the crime scene. He's invited to every crime scene where he inspects his own work and the work of others like a jeweler authenticates a gem. He is no serial killer, he's an artisan. He understands that humans are truly free to do whatever they want, whether it is to kill or create. And Hannibal blends the polar opposites of beauty and morbidity, as only a truly free man can. Just like Tim Allen.
