It suggested putting the cable box on 1, but I placed it into HDMI 2 because that is the order of the devices in the tv stand. What settings are you using?

I also really want to get a 4k tv, but I'm personally waiting until Vizio releases their P series sometime this fall. Their 70-inch 4k tv is going to have a MSRP of 2600. So you'd get a lot more real estate for not a whole lot more. That of course assumes the PQ is comparable, which I suppose isn't guaranteed. I'm waiting for a few reviews on the P-series before I pull the trigger. If nothing else, it'll put some downward pressure on current 4k prices.

How old are you? If your current mattress sucks and you're young, getting a better mattress now is going to save you a poo poo ton of back problems. So the 1 year manufacturer's warranty on my LG 47LS5600 expired about 2 weeks ago. Naturally, just as predicted in the OP, I'm now having issues. I've completely lost video. The audio still works, and I'm able to blindly cycle through inputs and test that my PS3 video isn't working either. It's just a black screen. I had noticed some flickering/dimming in the video the last few days, and now it appears to be completely gone. A few questions that hopefully somebody can help me out with: 1) I've done some cursory google searching, but can't seem to find any help. Any chance there is an easy fix that I'm unaware of? 2) If not, how costly does in-home service tend to be? (Anyone with experience with LG's service?) 3) I only bought it a year ago, so I hate to entertain this thought, but is it a better idea to buy a new tv rather than have it repaired?

Yeah, they'll likely ask you to get a repair quote and then decide from there. When AMEX warrantied my panel defect on my Panny Plasma, I just paid best buy to come out and give me a quote on panel replacement which was more than the TV cost me and AMEX just refunded the purchase amount on my card. They didn't even want the TV in the end. It ended costing me about $150 out of pocket, but I was able to stomach losing $150 to get refunded fully on a 2 year old TV.

I am thinking about buying a tv for the first time since 2003 and I've been looking at this http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-50L14...#productDetails A 50" Toshiba, 1080p 60hz etc for $520. 99% of the time it will be hooked up to a pc for game playin/youtube watching. I'll stick with my monitor for twitch poo poo like Counter Strike so I just want low enough input lag to not notice hugely while playing stuff like Sleeping Dogs, Dark Souls/Siders, et all. I'll probably wait and watch for sales for a while, for the size, price, and brand is this a decent one to watch?

Not home but I would imagine 15-20 lbs. Not willing to have a bookshelf just for this, its either finding a way to mount it to the tv or raising the tv up a few inches so it can go directly on the tv stand.

How can you find the manufacture date of an LG TV while its in the box at the store? Any code in the serial number? I didn't see manufacture date listed on the label, only the back of the TV. I am planning on exchanging my LG 60LB7100 because it randomly turns off and occasionally flashes bright white and want to get a more recent build. I forget what they call it but one of their features was causing "judders" if the camera was slowly panning over something. Anynet+ was also causing problems. Anyone here have any experience with the Sony XBR TVs (now all 4K)? I'm trying to decide between the X850B and the X900B. The X900B is interesting because it has those front-facing speakers on the side, which I don't actually mind since I don't have an external sound system (or plan to, since it would be a waste in an apartment complex). I think another major difference is that the X850B is 120Hz while the X900B is 240Hz. Also, the X900B has local dimming while the X850B only has frame dimming. I'm not sure if either of these are really important. Also worth pointing out that I'd be able to get 25% off either (from a friend who works at Sony). I was also looking at the X950Bp but those are probably out of my price range, even with the discount. I may also drop down to the 55" models. Any reason not to go with a 70" Vizio E700i-B3? http://www.target.com/p/vizio-70-class-1080p-120hz-full-array-led-smart-tv-black-e700i-b3/-/A-14408844 I can get one today for $1211, which seems like a good deal to me. I've been looking for a 70" under $2000 for the last several months. I've been eyeballing the Sony W850B for a while now. Will this thing be noticeably worse? Reviews seem solid. I don't give a gently caress about any smart TV jazz, just picture quality really. I'm currently using a lower-end Sony 46" from a few years back and it's not the best picture quality, kind of sick of it.

I joined the Samsung h7150 crew. Picked up a un65h7150 this weekend! I'm still looking for good settings to adjust the modes and teaching myself to navigate the menus. Can anyone tell me any configure tips or point me to the best picture settings you've found? I also can't seem to find a game mode, did they really simplify the picture modes down to just Standard, Dynamic, Movie modes? (think there are 4, can't remember the last). Is game mode hidden away somewhere?

In the store, the 900B (local dimming) seemed to have better contrast, although I don't know if contrast for its own sake is necessarily better if it comes from a brightness-detection algorithm as opposed to just following the source material.

That being said, I was looking at the X850B and the X900B in person the other day and the X900B looked noticeably better to me. It was also a larger panel version though. I think the 80 inch and the 850 was the 70? They both looked ridiculously good though. I don't see how you wouldn't be satisfied with either one. Up-converted 1080P looked really good (somehow better than 1080P) on the X900B, I didn't test that out on the 850.

Every couple of minutes it does feel like it skips a frame or has a very very slight hiccup, not sure what that's about, not sure if guests would even notice it but I definitely do... will have to watch a few more movies to see if it persists but I'm guessing it's a plex thing and not a tv thing.

I would appreciate some Goon help in picking out a modest HDTV. Laugh all you want, but my only television is a CRT monolith that I bought in 2007 that remains with me to this day. I'm about to move for something like the 11th time in the last 12 years or so, and I'm tired of schlepping that monstrosity with me. Also, I just received a WiiU as a gift and I would like to enjoy the graphical splendour of that system. I should note that I don't watch television live, so this is purely for gaming. I have a PS2, original XBox, Wii, and now a WiiU as well. I spent a good hour+ at Best Buy today and apparently plasma TVs are the thing amongst hard-core gamers, but I think that that is mostly for the Call of Duty monkeys - I just want to play Mario games in bright colours. I really prefer the look of LED to plasma anyway (much more bright and striking), and I thought that perhaps a 120hz model would help avoid the stuttering that can happen with gaming systems. I was going to get just a 32" system as that is the viewable area on my current monstrosity, but I could see myself going into the low 40's. I just don't want to spend a huge amount on this TV as it's going to see fairly light use. I originally wanted one with a built-in DVD player, but now that I think of it I don't really need it with all of those game systems. Best Buy has a sale this week with a 42" LG (1080, 120) for $389 and, though it's a bit over my budget, I was really impressed with it in the store and the customer reviews on it have been very strong. Does this sound like a good fit for my needs, or do you have any other suggestions? PS I know that upgrading to a HDTV will require changing cables for my PS2 and my X-Box (not sure what I need for my Wii yet). Is there a decent hub out there for component input? I already have one for A/V input, but that obviously won't work with a new TV and only the very large TVs these days have 4 HDMI inputs.

Ignore all the wires everywhere, this is all temporary until I have a chance to run stuff through the wall and put keystone jacks in for everything as well as a new outlet behind the TV.2.) The shelf:  . Just a cheap one from Menards (local home depot type place, more or less)2.) Most of the tools:  . Not pictured: Long screwdriver, pencil, stud finder, and a ruler3.) Marking the studs: Not pictured. I kinda cheated in that I already knew where the wall studs were from mounting the TV a day before. I still verified them at the new height with the stud finder in case they were insanely warped or something. Unfortunately the stud finder kept going off whenever I pointed it at myself. Bahaha I slay myself  4.) Marking holes:  I marked a hole for the top hole in the left bracket and used a level to get the location for the top hole of the right bracket, both around the middle of the studs. I was too lazy to do an exact 16 inches but it's something like that. I then marked the other two holes by using the level and ruler to get the distance/location for them. This turned out to be a mistake for reasons I'll explain a bit later.4.) Drill pilot holes: Not pictured. I used a 1/16" bit to drill pilot holes for the screws in about an inch. 5.) Insert screws partway:  I put each screw in partway to get the holes started to make it a bit easier.6.) Level check:  Checked my work, looks good enough7.) Install the brackets:  Screwed in the brackets with a long screwdriver. This is where I realized that I went a bit wrong earlier. The holes in the brackets aren't aligned vertically at all, which I didn't notice. Fortunately I was able to kind of widen the holes a little bit with a file and just hold it firmly level vertically when I screwed them in and they both ended up decent enough, maybe a couple degrees off but not really noticeable. Whoops.8.) Level check again:  Seems good!9.) Put shelf on:  I centered it via the ruler and marked the front 2 holes with a pencil.10.) Drill pilot holes:  Put the shelf on the ground and drilled 2 pilot holes where I had marked. Be careful doing this so that you don't go all the way through the wood - I've done that in the past.11.) Insert the screws:  Put the screws partway in again to check if all looks good and make them easier to turn on the wall. Remove screws.12.) Screw shelf in: Not pictured. I screwed the two I had drilled with the pilot hole in, and then didn't bother with pilot holes for the 2 back screws. They went in well enough with just pressure on the screwdriver and they're hard to mark, so that worked fine. 13.) Finished product:  I didn't put the speaker on for the picture but you get the idea.It really isn't very complicated. It doesn't look centered in the picture but it's centered in relation to the mounting bracket. It's a big articulating one so the TV is off kilter most of the time unless I screw with it a lot, which I haven't done because it's only been on the wall a day.
