(skins are ok, since they don't affect gameplay) i have every champion and every rune + enough IP for the rest if i ever decided to buy them and i have about 7000 games played. i got all the champs maybe 6000 games in. i havent ever purchased RP or purchased champions with free RP

~four years? i've never actually thought "i cant play this champion i want to play because i cant afford them" though. most people dont actually play all of a roster of 100+ champs verviticus, you've spent about 4510 hours on League of Legends which means 188 days of your life. If youre a catch-em-all type, dont play f2p lol

Assuming I've not buggered up the numbers, all the champions combined would cost you 452,700 IP assuming you got Garen, Alistar and Tristana for free. Let's say your games last around 35 minutes and you lose every one but still somehow get your First Win Of The Day bonus (which is a flat 150 IP with no modifier) which should provide kind of a lowball estimate. League wiki says the formula for IP is calculated like this { [base IP] + ([IP / min] * [game time in minutes]) * [gamemode modifier] } and using some other crap from the wiki gives me: {16 + (1.405*35)*1} = about 65 IP rounded down for a 35 minute loss. Five of those plus your win of the day would grant you about 476 IP a day. From that it would take you 952 days to gather enough IP for all of the champions. Now assuming you win all of them: {18 + (2.312*35)*1} = About 99 IP for a 35 minute win. 645 IP a day so that would take 702 days or just under 2 years which assumes you win absolutely every game you play. so its probably around two and a half years to get all of the champions

Awesome, thanks for the math Succint. So I guess we were both kinda right - the game really is F2P if you have years, but to be successful without spending money, and without spending years, it's best to just pick some champs you want to excel at, and focus on runes afterwards. After that, you can start expanding your champ pool based on the runes you own, or picking up runes for other builds, and then getting the champs that go with them. Needless to say, my path was different...I bought $100 worth of RP when they had that big RP sale last year, and I'm still milking it - when a champ went to 475rp sale, I snatched it up, and all the sub-6300 champs, I bought with IP. I took the fast track, but I had some extra money, and it was a thing I liked...so

I'll gi ahead and make the libertine post and suggest anybody who knows they will be in this game for more than a year, or like 30 days played, that throwing 100 at the game is a really good investment. I've thrown about 150 at the game over the course of 4 years and at over 150 full days invested in, or rather just under a buck a full day of playing time is probably my least expensive entertainment in my adult life.

I have been playing on and off since early beta (so I also got Rammus and Corki for free) and own about half of the champions. I think I dropped about $30 at one point. But I think it's silly to view unlocking all content as a marker of a game being free to play. I never need to own Volibear to fully enjoy the game.

A good buddy of mine set up a huge database of normals/ranked games and how many champions I played and of my friends I played the most champions at like 74 but I played like a single game of at least 50 of 74. A guy like Verv plays probably 10 champions period with very very little fluctuation.
