Is there any way to temporarily stop notifications from appearing on a screen?

My wife takes the iPad to class and she keeps getting banners from iMessage and mailbox, which is annoying for her. Is that what the "silence notifications" always (versus when locked) in do not disturb does?

From like a page back, but I didn't see anyone reply, so yes, that's what the "Always" setting is for. I sometimes use it when I'm playing games on my iPad and don't really care if I get a new Facebook comment or whatever. It's a pain in the rear end to remember to go back and turn it off every time though.

God, nobody's going to mug you, even if the news and other goons tell you to be afraid of everything. The cost of being afraid of everything all the time is way higher than actually being the victim of some crime at some point in your life, short of murder (being the victim of mugging is pretty unlikely - like, 119 in 100 000 per year unlikely, but being murdered is very unlikely - like 4.8 in 100 000).

Besides the GMail exchange support issues, how usable are Google's services on an iPhone? I'm tempted to give iOS another shot, but I am an unrepentant Google fanboy and use them for pretty much everything - in particular, Google Drive, Authenticator, and casting via Chromecast.

I don't use those myself but a quick look at the apps by Google show they have apps for the ones you mentioned and a lot more. And the Gmail app gives realtime email notifications getting around the exchange issues. I'm sure others will be able to give more insight into how good the apps are though.

Drive (and docs, sheets, etc) is excellent and support across different apps on the platform is very good, so you can export things into it easily without a computer.

Authenticator works. I don't know what else it's supposed to do but give you codes.

Casting is supported in iOS versions of Plex, Allcast, Netflix, YouTube, and probably others. No idea about chrome browser casting.

Google now is a waste of time for me on iOS. The Google search app is dumb. Translate is great. I use gmail for deep searches and mailbox for ordinary email needs.

You may find the maps integration frustrating. Addresses will open by default in Apple Maps, but the Google maps app is great and I don't really notice the default app problem.

All my Google Calendar events and Contacts are auto-synced to my iPhone. I use the Gmail app for email and I have Drive for the random file here and there. I also use Google Maps, YouTube, and Chrome.

Everything works as well as I'd like it to. Apps that let you specify an app to open web pages in and stuff are set to Chrome. YouTube links open in the app. Gmail opens links in Chrome, etc.

Anyone get an armband for a 6 regular that they like yet? I want one that'll fit a caseless 6 well and won't flail around on my arm while running. Most of the ones on Amazon seem to have almost entirely fake reviews and were designed for Galaxys.

The digital image stabilization in video works great. I'm not entirely sure why they didn't use OIS for video, but I suspect it has something to do with how it detects shaking vs. the fact you generally move the camera around when shooting video.

I think OIS mostly handles small almost imperceptible hand shake that blurs a high res image. Video tends to have much larger shake.

Yeah, they had no way of knowing who had a legit liquid damage case, versus who had an improperly triggered liquid indicator and had to pay out of warranty but shouldn't have.

So if you paid an out of warranty replacement fee for liquid damage at all during that timeframe, then you got money back.

So did I. At one point I considered trying my luck with the Genius Bar but I knew ahead of time they wouldn't replace it in this case so I didn't even bother and just bought a new one outright.

This question's probably been asked a lot, but I can't find an answer. I recently changed my plan and long story short I now have unlimited messaging. I used to use Google Voice. I liked the feature of Google Voice that I could see and respond to texts right from google.com/voice. Is there something similar with messages on iPhone?

If not, I can grow up and use my phone like a real person.

I'm selling my iPhone on craigslist and a buyer has asked for the IMEI. Should I be scared to give this out? I realize he probably wants to check if it's actually unlocked or if it's stolen, but I don't want him to be able to gently caress with me because of it.

iMessage to an extent, if you have a Mac and youre texting someone who also has an iPhone and iMessage enabled.
It works for me because I have said Mac and pretty much everyone I text has an iPhone.

But its not an all-encompassing solution, and I had the same problem when I switched to an iPhone and lost google voice for everyone.

Technically a person could do malicious things with it but that's rare I'd imagine. I'd just plug your IMEI into http://iphoneimei.info/ and give him a screenshot of the sanitized results.

Also, the part I bolded won't matter if you have a Mac and you're running Yosemite when that comes out. Continuity is supposed to let you send SMS from the desktop using your phone (finally!).

With my iPhone 5, I could just start a wifi connection (as in tethering) from my iPad Air, but with the 6+ that's not possible anymore. All devices are on 8.0.2, what's the deal with that? Is there a setting I might've missed? The 6+ was restored from an iCloud backup of the 5, so it should be set up exactly the same.

Did you try manually connecting first? It may be because the 6+ is a new device as far as your iPad is concerned.

Yeah, I considered that, too, but that didn't do the trick. I just noticed that iCloud keychain isn't working on both devices, but I can't activate it because it won't send the activation code to my iPhone. Guess I'll call support tomorrow morning.

Well well well
I got an iPhone 6 and restored from an iCloud backup. It seems like some apps remembered my settings from my old phone, yet others act like I've never opened them before.

Is this just dependent on how each app was made, or should I not expect app data to be restored from iCloud backups?

Maybe if the devs did some non-standard thing with how their settings are stored. Last time I restored a backup onto a new phone I think everything appeared the way it was on the old phone.

Seems pretty widespread and nothing I've tried has fixed it so I think we'll need to see a software update solution.

You should expect app data to be restored from iCloud backups. iCloud backs up app data. iCloud restores app data.

Some developers, however, were apparently repeatedly dropped on their heads as children, and do not actually use app data storage.
