Not really. I'm only gonna watch the second episode to see if Yukari's character is good at all. I do not begrudge anyone dropping it right away.

Oh for sure. It was like when a show about blatant pedophilia aired, and adtrw was all 'hey that's gross, don't talk about pedo poo poo here' but I knew that I should give it a chance because it was always possible that it could be the best anime ever made.

Oh, does Psycho-Pass actually get better after those two episodes? I dropped it at that point. And, well, anal-fisting prison rape is usually a safe reason to drop a show. And I've recommended people Monogatari before with the caveat of "ignore it when the protagonist molests the little girl."

Eh. I could see Cross Ange working out as the season's trainwreck anime. I laughed quite a bit at how completely the main character was a dead ringer for a stereotypical fanfiction mary sue, complete with literally every other character surrounding her at all times constantly commenting on how great and amazing and perfect she is. Plus it was pretty great when they had the night scene with her cheerfully going "man it would be really awesome if all the norma just dropped dead" and then the very next morning she finds out that she's a norma, with the mother who she told to "just give up your dumb inhuman baby for the good of society, and have another not norma baby!" laughing at her on tv and going "yeah serves you right bitch." It was just so beautifully hamfisted that I had to laugh. Maybe I'm just desperate for something to fill the hilariously terrible hole in my heart that Valvrave Season 1 left.

Yeah don't get me wrong, Cross Ange isn't anywhere near as, uh as much of an experience as Valverave was.

Valrave was dope because it had L-Elf. the most unpronounceable name. Also, it treated it's rape scene like it was actually something terrible for everybody even though I'm pretty sure it just gets turned into a bullet point like 2 episodes later

The rape scene in Valverave was bad, lets not make any excuses there. The plot was basically written so the rapist could preform the act of rape without actually being held accountable, which is pretty hosed up. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't a blatantly fanservicy scene, so that does put it up above Cross Ange, I guess, though still indefensible. In fact maybe trying to rank different rape scenes as being less bad than each other isn't the best idea, because unlike the rest of Valverave and Cross Ange, it's just creepy, not funny. ninjewtsu fucked around with this message at 05:13 on Oct 6, 2014 |

Mercrom posted:Also what was so horrible about the first two episodes of Psycho-Pass? The main character makes a bad first impression without the context later episodes provide about the setting. Also, the dark tone was kind of overplayed. The reason it's being mentioned here specifically is probably because the first episode's plot involved rape (though I don't think the way it was handled is comparable to Cross Ange). So Shingeki no Bahamut ~Genesis~ either blew all its budget in the action scenes in the first episode, or this could actually be really entertaining for what is I guess a card game tiein? Way better characterization and action than I was expecting at all.

I haven't watched it yet, but my understanding of Grisaia is that it's about dating a bevy of hot anime babes all with different body types and different stock personalities, and you are an ex-special forces mercenary. Is that the extent of the appeal? ... Yo gently caress it let's stimulate my lizard brain.

my mecha curse compels me to continue with Cross Ange but it's certainly not a guarantee that I'll stick with it to the end, even Daimidaler and Dai-Shogun were terrible enough for me to drop a few episodes in That said Valvrave went from a glorious trainwreck to boring awfulness so... the baby cage thing was hilarious though, they're treating this stupid toddler like it's a nuclear bomb and it's pretty amazing

Since I haven't done Amane's route I got hit with that spoiler in the first episode, so I'm pretty compelled to go through it right now so it doesn't screw with the (admittedly pretty good) pacing the VN has. Chiruchiru's scatterbrained personality came across pretty well though, and her whole scene felt very SHAFT-esque which was cool, but you can tell that the animation budget went to Sakakai (surprising really, I expected it to all be packed into Amane's chest. I guess they can't really do that when it's censored though ).

Here comes the "gently caress you Theron Martin" moment of the season :quote:While that scene is edgy and probably could have been done in a less fan servicey way, it is not entirely exploitive or gratuitous because a) body cavity searches are a fairly standard prison entry procedure; b) it was karmic justice for Angelise's earlier comments about Norma being “monsters,” and c) the humiliation serves the narrative purpose of stripping her of her lingering princess attitudes.
