Google It! Kokkuri-san had a pretty funny first ep. A few jokes fell flat for me, but a whole lot more of them made me laugh. That makes at least one probably decent comedy, and there's still the bathtub merman and ShiroBako.

After one episode I can't say for sure, but it was consistently amusing. Seems like they're maybe setting up more of an actual story than either of those but there are only hints at most, so far. I assume at least at some point we'll find out why such a young girl was living on her own.

The guy actually says he wanted her to be his dog because he loves dogs. And then goes on to say that what he loves about them are their unwavering, weepy-eyed devotion to their masters and that's when I turned it off.

why cant they just make a nice normal romance show. you know one where a girl and a guy just love each other. you know one where like the guy is in his mid 20's, has a good office job, his own place, and is just an all-around normal guy. the same for the girl, but if she was like really into karuta, or a motorcycle courier that rode her black motorbike around the city making deliveries that would be fine too. that's my dream

I don't remember the manga all that well, but I think he's just loving with her? And doesn't actually mean any of that poo poo?

Or. He has one of those angst-filled brooding bad boy backstories where his entire life went to poo poo and now he can only bring himself to trust the mindless unwavering devotion of dogs, and the line is more about his own hosed-upness than anything else. I think?

Though whether that makes it less terrible is up to you.

Speaking of manga: World Trigger is exactly what it appears to be; a desperate, strikingly formulaic attempt to produce the next WSJ juggernaut. The first chapter was the most interesting thing about it, so if the first episode doesn't appeal then you can safely write off the whole thing.

Well, there's always Bonnouji although there's no anime adaption at least the two leads were normal and healthy minded, making for a nice and laid back romance manga.

Shoujo and josei tend to stress out their heroines a ton it seems.

Assumed he was either loving with her or had some back story already, and no it doesn't really make it any less terrible.

Fruit of Grisaia is 95% Gary Stu-lite x troubled-as-gently caress-pasts-ppl VN, 5% fanservice that's not necessary to advance story and build character. That the anime took to Terra Formars level censoring of tits is a very good sign. I got into it for the absolutely great art and left it a fan of the stories, the well-timed done comedy and characters. It's a decently large thing in Japan, was played live on an official nicovideo event, the first episode of this got more attention than Cross Ange on Twitter which is another good sign.

Kokkurisan was a good batch of laughs.

Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis began with horse parkour, came outta nowhere and wowed me. 100% sure watch. Based on a card-battler game but you'd have to do research after watching it to find that out. With the character design, events and all it's basically Fantasy Space Dandy

Fate/Stay Night: That sure was an episode of FSN by ufotable. Can't wait for Shirou to come along and gently caress it all up!

Sora no Method: Seems like harmless teen melodrama. Would have been genuinely pretty good if the episode wasn't doing backflips to try to force a conflict.

Shingeki no Bahamut: Mostly solid for a TCG vehicle. Also mostly generic ~fantasy~ stuff. I'll probably give it a few episodes to do something interesting.

Cross Ange: :stonklol:

So far, outside of several pantyshots (that weren't in the VN; irrc, there were no pantyshots at all in the VN), no.

Personally, I loved Grisaia VN for the badassery of the MC (and his personality), comedy, characters and the chemistry between them. The Amane's and Makina's routes were also really good (with Sachi's being decent and Michiru's & Sakaki's pretty much sucking rear end).

And yeah, as people have said, it's not a dating sim so the porn is not the point (and it's indeed 10+ (I'd even say 15+) hours of reading before you even get to that stuff).

Watched some more stuff.

My Husband's a loving Nerd I had zero expectations going in, but it's actually amusing enough for a short.

Celestial Method First episode was decent, if a bit rote and the obligatory first episode conflict was really overdone. Giving this the three episode test to see if it has anything interesting planned for it's premise or not.

Kokkuri-san Really weird, and the rapid-fire gags are hit and miss, but I enjoyed it a lot. More importantly I can't possibly quit this after that ED.

Wolf-Girl and Black Prince She's a compulsive liar, he's an unrepentant sadist control freak, together they create an awful show I'm not watching further.

Not bothering with Joker, and probably going to give Fruit of Whatever a pass as well.

Haven't watched any Funi shows yet because I can't stand their streaming service. Might just wait and see if any of their five fantasy shows end up getting good buzz or not before I dig any of them up.

Cross Ange seems to be a cross between a mech show and a women's prison film. The :gonk: content felt like it was there to desperately try and add anything of note, because it was boring for the parts I didn't skip through. Dropped.

Vanadis was better than I was expecting. Nothing extraordinary, but seems like a decent adventure serial sort of like Chaika.

Lost Future was... odd. Something about the way the heads are drawn makes it look like they're tracing off of 3D renders. I'll stick with it for at least a bit to see wtf.

Bahamut had some real nice backgrounds but I can't stand the MC. Dropped.

World Trigger and Sora no Method did nothing for me. Dropped.

Grisaia looks like The Most Dangerous Galge, which could be neat. Not sure what's up with letterboxing an image that's already 16:9, though.

Wolf Girl and Black Prince seems to be aimed squarely at the 50 Shades crowd. Dropped.

Kokkuri-san was more amusing than actually funny. Hopefully things will pick up with more characters.

A too realistic realistic romance anime of workers in their 20s-30s would be the guy and the girl having feelings but no time for each other ever because they work normal Japanese hours and habits, with no time for each other after business and work at home has been completed, chugging cute little energy drink medicine bottles and eye-drops to make it through the hours, finally running a handful of co-op runs in MH4G together before finally crashing for a total of three hours of sleep together before it's time to wake up for another day of the same old.

Why not make a realistic romance anime out of Cumming On Pigeons. The pigeons are aliens vulnerable to proteine and the guy is a misunderstood superhero rejected by society who finds romance in some way that ensures great Blu-Ray sales.

Cinescope. 16:9 sucked on 4:3/5:4 CRT and LCD, 2.35:1 on 16:9 enhances the experience. See 1886 on the PS4 for an example of a game doing it for the sake of filmic feel, doesn't work for everybody though.

Natsuyuki Rendezvous isn't exactly realistic, given that its main gimmick is a ghost, but it is about a 20-something part-time worker in a flower shop and his widowed (hence the ghost) boss.

Why are people still giving Cross Ange a watch and then posting impressions of it? I seriously doubt it will turn into an at least halfway mediocre show, and will probably only just get worse. The early summary should have been more than enough for any reasonable person to say nope.

On less lovely show notes, Gugure! Kokkuri-san looks like it should be cute. I don't think it will fill the comedy holes left by Noazki and Sabagebu, but so far it seems solid.

Now I just need to wait on bathtub merman and Build Fighters 2.
