To be honest, I thought North's Metanoia was pretty drat decent. Their first big album "What You Were" is still one of my favorite metal albums, and I think one of their guitarists is/was a goon.

Edit: Pelican's Arktika live album was also rad, but considering how there were no new songs on it, I dunno if it really qualifies.
