Oh. Well in that case I bought a 2013 Moto X on recommendations of the Android thread and am pretty happy, it has a bunch of the creature comforts she will be used to from WP but not too much bloat. The 2gb of RAM also helps (I think the G only has 1GB.) You won't have an SD card slot, but if the use case for lots of storage is music, Google Play takes care of that. You can also spring for the developer edition of the phone which has 32GB of onboard space. Biggest downside is a meh camera.

Note that this is purely a personal opinion, not one of my employer or the company execs or anyone else.

Ah thanks! 16 gigs should be enough storage for her. She takes a ton of baby pics, but that should be enough.

It probably cost some amount of circuitry to add to the phone, and if their telemetry said "almost nobody is using LTE for reasons" then why not take it out. They still offer the 2013 model last I checked.

I ended up buying a used 1520 from swappa, but I accidentally shipped it to my parents house, so it'll be a few more days until I can actually use it again. I'll probably just use it for development and general screwing around, but since it has a Nano Sim I can switch it easier than with the 1020. So who knows, maybe I'll actually use it more.

Also, I put FoulPlay: The Unofficial PlayStation Network App back in the store. It's nearly the same as the "PSN Messenger" app I had put up... but now I'm going to have to take that off the store, because the name does not pass validation anymore. So instead, I figured I would just use the old one instead. It's now a paid for app, but if you already downloaded it before you should be able to just download it again.

EDIT: And I just pulled it again, because my phone hard locked with it on! It worked just fine as PSN Messenger, but when I changed the store reference and ran the public version, it hosed up again. Screw this, I'm not going to invest more time in that app if I keep hitting stupid issues like this.

EDIT2: Acutally it's probably is not related to my app. After hard resetting the phone and installing every app except that one, it happened again. Oh gently caress this platform. :argh:

Got my Amazon Warehouse Deals (used) 930 today. $364. Black Asia variant, literally brand new. My guess is some idiot bought then realized it didn't get LTE then returned it.

No Denim out of the box, but fixed in 1 hour.

Googled a bit, used some Sony software to convert it to a Finnish ROM. Immediately OTA'd to Denim.

drat son this phone is so nice. Shame it doesn't get LTE but at this point, I don't care.

You have a link to the deal? Si what does it mean to not have LTE? I thought we all needed LTE.

As an update, my 1520 is back to life! I'd almost given up on it so its been sitting unsheathed in my overheated and dry apartment. A buddy, ex Apple Genius, said they used to jump seemingly dead iPhones with FireWire as it had a higher current which usually sorts a shorted/drained battery. I realised I'd been trying to charge it with the 920 A/C adapter which is usually enough if a little slow. I tried the 1520 wart (1.5A, dear reader), the phone did some flashing sequences after a minute or so, came back to life with a dead batter/charge signal, 5 min later the bastard restarted. All systems seem to be fine and dandy. God bless!

Coming back to 1520 from 920, the big boy is indeed loving big. I never got used to the size. Conversely th 920 has too small a screen.

tl;dr use the supplied a/c for big phones dummy, there is no sweet spot for the size of a phone.

There is no standing deal. It was just an open box return on Amazon.com. Just search for Lumia 930, wade through the junk and look for the "new and used" link below pricing. I don't believe Amazon sells the unlocked 930 themselves (it's a bunch of resellers) but somehow there was one sold by their Warehouse Deals account (their returns center).

The international 930 doesn't have the proper LTE bands for the US, so it just gets HSPA+ or "faux 4g." Fast enough even for video streaming on AT&T.

The camera startup and speed on Denim is fantastic. I'm not a photographer by any means, but quickly snapped this today. Looks good to me.

So it turns out the 930 back cover is supposedly quite easy to remove, it comes off just like the 830 but they don't give you a notch to stick your fingernail in. If you pop an opening via the SIM card slot though (or use a suction cup) you can then buy some of the other colors to swap out if you're feeling fancy. I haven't done this yet but I've ordered a new cover + parts to do it. This thread has the information but I've pulled out some handy links:

http://forums.windowscentral.com/nokia-lumia-icon/292848-orange-green-backs.html

You want to pop out the corner shown first, and end at the bottom. Then put the bottom part back in first, putting it back on in reverse.

http://www.originalpartsmobile.com/modulo-flash-nokia-lumia-1520-nokia-lumia-930?filter_name=nokia flash module

Basically you can either re-use the QI pad, NFC pad, and flash module from your existing cover (heat up adhesive/pry them up) or just buy the parts a second time to build a new cover with your color of choice. This allows you some previously impossible color combos like green/orange/white with black trim (if you got a black 930/Icon) or black with silver trim, etc.

This is the same company but just an all together package via Ebay, etc.

Alternatively, troll your friends with a Verizon cover on your non-Verizon 930 phone, so zany!

I wish there was a way to disable the slide-up Lock screen if Glance is set to Always On (could sorta do this in Symbian). They basically present the exact same information in the exact same screen locations.

Glance can be a little tricky. If I recall you need to open the MSN weather app and complete it's initial setup, then set it as your lock screen, then go to the glance settings and turn it on, then reopen weather once or something. Some of these posts might be helpful:

I had this issue couple of times with my old 920. Some cables have plugs are slightly longer or wider and bend pins inside and they get stuck against some switch or sensor. I used small screwdriver to poke the pins carefully and it fixed it.

Hello Wordament & Snap Attack players who play our games on Windows Phones.

We were receiving reports of the game crashing (thanks to all who brought this to our attention) and we found the culprit, albeit a strange culprit. If you do not currently have an avatar connected to your Xbox Live account, the game will unfortunately crash.

To work around this, you simply need to have an avatar. Here’s an easy way to do so:

1. Go to xbox.com and sign-in to your account.

2. Once signed in, hover over My Account on the top right corner and select: Profile

3. On your Profile page, select: Customize Avatar

4. Create an Avatar and select Save.
