The Odrau Islands, the last great mystery of Southeast Asia. They hadn't existed on any map for over twenty-two thousand years.

That was, until they literally warped in from nowhere thirteen years ago.

The islands used to be part of a great, more ancient land called Mu. Right until Mu decided to explode over some unavoidable magical disaster. The city-state of Odrau enacted a ritual to escape the destruction, but their sorcerers surely didn't expect for the entire archipelago to vault this far forward into time. Just another oddity in a world that's already gone through a magic resurgence, cult wars, and treaties with aliens from Pluto. Not that it scared a good part of the world when it appeared in the South China Sea. A few of their new neighbors tried to grab pieces of Odrau by force, sparking brushfire wars with the displaced Muvians, until the Ashton Foundation stepped in.

Today the city-state and all three hundred of her islands are a provisional member of the New Earth Government. The megacorps moved in to help the Muvians get up to speed with the times, even as they took designs from the unique properties of their technology. People from all over the world flooded in the corporate towns they built. They sought to find work and fortune in a tropical paradise. When a sudden coup of sorcerer-lords overthrew Odrau's monarchy and imposed martial law, they found themselves trapped in the city instead.

Odrau currently exists in perpetual conflict. A massive city of cold, urban sprawl spirals outward against a tropical wilderness full of sentient, carnivorous flora, millennia-old ruins, and cryptids from bygone eras. A culture of magical tradition and occult sciences clashes with and works alongside the high-tech, hard code of modern arcanotechnology. And an oppressive oligarchy of powerful sorcerer-lords parley with the capitalist megacorps and the NEG, even as they mercilessly engage against royalist guerrillas and strengthen their fortresses and patrols.

In between all of them are the masses. The average citizens of Odrau, Muvian refugees who lost their original homes, overseas workers and crystal miners, relic hunters and soldiers of fortune, the arcane underground, and criminals from all stripes who want their slice of the pie. Even under martial law, they live their days the best they know how. Because while life in the Odrau sprawl is hard, life outside it is absolutely fatal.

But that's where you come in.

Hello, and welcome to my attempt to run Black Lagoon in NyarlathoTech.

NyarlathoTech?

It's CthulhuTech, with much less racist, misogynist stuff and (hopefully) less confusing metaplot. Ettin started the original NTech games (as well as a primordial IRC NTech game) since he spent so much time complaining about CTech. Comrade Gorbash also made more games based on one of the major organizations of the setting. And I like this setting enough that I want to start my own!

As with the other games, we're using the Atomic Robo RPG as the base for the game. You can grab it here! It's a good RPG.

What's the game about?

The other games feature cool organizations like the Soul Network and the Ashton Foundation as they combat occult threats that threaten our future anime cyberpunk world or find dangerous occult relics before the bad guys do. And while those organizations will definitely appear here, this game isn't about them.

Here, your characters live in the ancient, occult-seeped city-state of Odrau, within the South East Asian Alliance (SEAA). Whatever reason you're here - maybe you're a native, a former soldier of fortune, a refugee, or even someone on the lam, you and several associates run a freelance delivery service together. It's a dangerous place after all; plenty of people need to travel to dangerous spots, or move contraband around and outside the islands. Especially with martial law cracking down on trade. Especially if you're delivering an unruly triceratops or an early copy of the Liber Ivonis to unscrupulous collectors. It pays the rent! Sometimes!

But that's only what you do up front. Along underground and OOI channels, however, you're more known for a different kind of service. The kind that demands plenty of firepower with little paperwork and accountability involved. Striking at cults and corporations that overreach their boundaries, taking back forbidden relics from heavily-guarded mansions, stopping the occasional warlord stockpiling Muvian arms in hollowed-out volcanoes. It's a tough business. Only crazy people stick around for long. But hey, that's life.

Keep that in mind when coming up with a character. The tone of the game will probably be closer to the Expendables meets Black Lagoon meets Shadowrun. Very action movie-like. Otherwise, anything goes!

If you have questions, you can ask them here or hit me (or Ettin for broader NTech background) up on SynIRC in #persona. If you have questions relating to Odrau itself, ask me directly. Or make stuff up. I don't really mind!

Recruitment will run until 11:59 PM EST on Saturday, January 31st! Looking for 4-5 players. Anyone is welcome, even those already in nTech games (new players will probably be a little higher on the priority, though).

How do I make a character?

Character creation will proceed as normal per the Atomic Robo rules - any of the listed methods will work. Pick three Modes, one at +3, on at +2, and one at +1. Pretty much any of the example Modes can work, and you can make up your own with the rules from the book. In an upcoming post I will include some example Modes for special character types from NTech, though here's two common ones right here, plus the list of skill being used. The Science Mode will be used unchanged.

The NyarlathoTech Setting!
Background largely supplied by Ettin!

The year is 2133. Here’s what the world is like:

The Occult
Modern occult research started in the 2020s when people started seriously looking through the eldritch tomes Miskatonic had filed away. Most of the early pioneering work was done by the Ashton Foundation, who developed the Dimensional Engine (a source of effectively limitless energy) and a few other magitech devices. They're called arcanotechnology these days.

Arcanotechnology (aka technosorcery) tends to be more popular than “regular” (“ritual”) sorcery. There’s just something about the fabric of reality being manipulated by an unthinking machine instead of a human mind that makes people more comfortable. Cybermancy (sorcery through software and apps) is harder but doable.

Magic is heavily regulated by the government. They require arcanotechs and sorcerers to be licensed and get periodic psychiatric assessments, suppress information about beings like Cthulhu, spread misinformation to keep the public believing comforting lies about how magic works, and give harsh penalties for breaking even minor occult laws.

Other Technology
Everyone and their dog has cheap, fast wireless internet now, and with micro-chips embedded in everything the Net is everywhere. Everyone is assumed to have their own personal data pad (a flexible, stretchable device which serves as a laptop, smartphone, locator, holo-projector, etc), a way to perceive augmented reality and basic computer knowledge.

Medical science is doing great. Health care is free, more illnesses are cured, and the human lifespan has had a few decades tacked on. Human augmentation has advanced a lot — if you’re rich you could basically become a brain in a robot if you wanted. Magic can do a lot of what science can’t, but it’s heavily regulated, expensive and dangerous, and nobody trusts it anyway. A lot of the latest research has been into nano-medicine and how it could replace arcanotherapy.

Nanotechnology is starting to change things, but the NEG regulates that too. Most people can print basic food and clothing for free, but need to shop for the rest. The government and major corporations use it for large-scale manufacturing.

Space travel exists! Mars is colonised (with several more worlds in progress), and people rely on sublight ships to get around. There are arcanotech interplanetary communications nodes, but for most people it is like dial-up in space. On Earth it's probably not important.

Politics
Most of the world is a member of the New Earth Government. The NEG is like a stronger United Nations, formed in the early 2070s as a union of economic blocs that had formed over the previous decades:

• APTO (Atlantic-Pacific Treaty Organisation): the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Others.
• NERU (new European-Russian Union): The EU + Russia (except the UK, who wanted stronger ties with America)
• SEAA (South East Asian Alliance): China + ASEAN
• AEF (Arab-Eurasian Federation): Arab League + some Western/Central Asian nations
• RSA (Republuc of South America): Central/South American nations
• SAL (South African League): Eastern and Southern African nations

The New Earth Government formed as a reaction to some major cult wars, the discovery of the Mi-Go, and a lingering feeling that Earth was alone in a hostile universe. It’s a shaky alliance sometimes — someone threatens to leave every decade or so, and nations are still more likely to cooperate in their old blocs than as a united Earth — but so far, it’s holding.

The Republic of Odrau
Twenty-three thousand years ago, the Queendom of Odrau was a prosperous island nation Southwest of ancient Mu. It was first built by refugees who fled from the oppressive Serpent People, and ruled by aristocratic sorcerers and sea-faring merchants who balanced power between themselves. Wars with the Serpent People and other Muvian nations brought the need for a government and the people elected a great heroine and a veteran of those wars as their first Sorceress-Queen. The Royal Family of Odrau had ruled for generations since, until recent events forced Queen Eri off the throne.

Even before the leap to modern times, Muvian enjoyed a level of technology not unlike our own before the turn of the century (plus airships, laser guns, and computer networks in dial-up speeds). While Muvian gadgets don't really work any better or worse than our own, they rely a lot on occult science to shortcut a lot of concepts we solve with "modern", physical science. More and more Muvians continue to adopt arcanotechnology into their everyday lives, though just as many choose to stick with what they know.

If you can imagine a 1990s cyberpunk Barsoom/Eberron set in the jungle, you should get a good idea of how everything fits. Less loincloths and more khaki shorts, though.

Unlike pretty much everywhere else in the NEG, wizards and the sharing of occult works are widely accepted on Odrau and in fact make up part of the ruling class. It makes the islands a popular spot for unregistered mages or para-psychics to hide out. It also makes the NEG and the OOI very uncomfortable.

Muvians
The original inhabitants of Mu could be considered very distant ancestors of humanity. There are three major ethnic groups of Muvians that live in Odrau, though smaller, regional minorities do exist. Feel free to make up your own.

Red Muvians are the original founders of Odrau, as well as the heritage of the Royal Family. Aside from a strong affinity for magic, they're really average folks and can easily pass for humanity if necessary. Red Muvians from this part of Mu share a lot of features with a lot of East Asian ethincities and could also pass as one (Though something would always seem off. Maybe the anime hair.).

Green Muvians are strong and tall, averaging to at least eight feet in height. They were either created by the Serpent People as a slave labor race, or taken in as Serpent People experiments to make them better at slave labor. No one really knows, and no one is stupid enough to ask a Green Muvian about it.

Black Muvians are grey-skinned folk not native to Odrau. A lot of the Black Muvians were merchants from the distant Muvian kingdom of Kuru, a mountainous land known for it's airships and love for travel and exploration. They resemble the Akathar in many ways, that it's possible that they are genetic relatives.

Red Moon Party
Aspects: Your Wizard Overlords; We're Watching You, Scum; Power to the People! Yes, the People
The government of Odrau is currently run by an oligarchy of highly-militaristic sorcerer-lords. A wizard junta, basically. Calling themselves a political party, they blamed a lot of Odrau's ills (particularly the chaotic adjustment after the time leap) to the Royal Family and declared the monarchy "obsolete" in the face of this new world. After a completely unrelated bomb incident destroyed the Royal Palace (with the queen in it), the Red Moon moved in to fill the vacuum of power with the support of many.

Placing the city under martial law, the Red Moon operate from a fortified spire arcology half-buried in a nearby mountain. They look out into the city with a network of spy drones and invisible familiars. Patrolling seacraft and airships remain ever pervasive, even while they belt out canned propaganda messages. As long as the Royal Family threatens stability, they say, they must put up these measures to protect the people. Five years have gone since, with no end in sight to the government's militarization.

Royal Guard
Aspects: The Rebellion; For the Throne!; Tired And Outnumbered
Led by the late Queen Eri's sister, the loyalists to the Royal Family hide out in Odrau's many islands and resort to jungle warfare to fend off the Red Moon army. Many of the Royal Guard are powerful occultists, though there are just as many who are veteran warriors, mercenary, and even ordinary people who can't put up with the martial law any more. They're very proficient at lightning raids, warping in to ambush enemy patrols, grabbing what they can, and warping out before the alarm is raised. It keeps them alive and fed, but even their top officers recognize that they're losing the long war.

The Royal Guard used to operate secretly from a small port several islands away from Odrau City, until the Red Moons discovered the place and summoned swarms of Byakhees to overwhelm it. Many of them are currently on the run.

Cults & Opposition Organizations
Cults are like weeds in the Cthulhu Mythos, they pop up everywhere. Here are some!

Children of Chaos
Aspects: Cult Of The Crawling Chaos; Nothing Personal, It's Just Business; More Money, More Problems
The Children of Chaos are a cult of Nyarlathotep. Their home is the corporate world — they infiltrate companies to steal their secrets and run a cloud of seemingly unconnected IP management companies, non-profit associations, private education, R&D and media companies to collect money for secret cult projects. As the cult is decentralised, the NEG is largely unaware of their existence. The kind of rumors that float in the internet say that they know a ritual that turn them into ravenous monsters. But that's silly, who would willingly do that?

Disciples of the Cold Ones
Aspects: Sciencultists; They Called Me Mad!; Agents In Every Institution
A group of scientists, scholars and libertarians who worship a group of beings they believe exist beyond the edge of the universe. Their goal is to infiltrate as many academic institutions as possible to steal research and “open everyone’s minds to the truths of the universe”. They’re also good at manipulating smaller cults. Recent activity shows that they've taken an interest in Muvian technology.

The Firstborn
Aspects: Priests of Ghatanothoa; Techno-Scavengers; Behold, Father Yig!
A cult native to Odrau, the Firstborn take their name from the first spawn of Cthulhu: Ghatanothoa, who they also see as Father Yig. They see the Serpent People as the master race and want to usher their return, but even in ancient Mu they were a very unpopular group, more akin to unwelcome pests than anything dangerous. The uncertainty of the new world brings new opportunities to the Firstborn, as they figure out how to mash together Muvian technology with modern science with devastating effects. They focus their attacks on corporate centers, salvaging bits of technology to ultimately resurrect their Serpent overlords.

Green Fury
Aspects: "Iä! Shub-Niggurath!"; Gorilla Warfare; Use Their Science Against Them!
An ecoterrorist cult of Shub-Niggurath who aim to reclaim Earth for their mother goddess. They are a major threat in the southern hemisphere, where they have amassed small armies of hijacked mecha and stage guerrilla attacks on industrial centers. Green Fury cultists have been spotted in Odrau, most likely believing the land to be touched by their goddess.

Xanthic Storm
A mid-21st century cult. Launched an world domination attempt that failed through a combination of bad timing, infighting, and plain old incompetence. Held out in mountain ranges for years, especially the Andes and Rockies, but was most successful in Asia. They took over a big chunk of the Himalayan Plateau and hold onto it for five years, and even managed an offensive that forced Shanghai and Chongqing to evacuate before a lack of air support and a surprise alien bombardment ended them in 2065. Offshoots of the cult still exist. Xanthic splinter groups have terrible PR, even for cults, and spend as much time fighting each other over orthodoxy and politics as anything else. They usually end up as cannon fodder or shock-troops for more competent cults.

Government Agencies
As a provisional member of the NEG, Odrau is being observed by several government agencies.

Office Of Occult Intelligence (OOI)
Aspects: Semper Occultus; For Our Eyes Only; Protect at Any Cost
The magic police of the NEG. They deal with occult crimes, police the occult black market where possible, and try to protect the NEG from monsters and the cults that summon them. The OOI do good work, but that sometimes requires disappearing people to detention facilities, shutting down well-meaning research projects, and hoarding artifacts. Be careful when messing with them.

While unsubstantiated, rumors of an OOI cell working in Odrau persist in the underground. The local government does nothing to suppress the spread of magic and the occult, which only means the these two parties will butt heads sooner or later.

New Earth Government Peacekeepers (Taskforce Odrau)
Aspects: Keeping the Peace; A Camp of Cowboy Cops; Shackled By the Bureaucracy
An NEG peacekeeping operation tasked to observe the current conflict in Odrau and keep the Red Moon government from overstepping their bounds. On paper, Taskforce Odrau act as political advisors to the republic and carry the voice of the entire NEG. In practice, the NEG's so busy avoiding a potential war with the Migou that the Peacekeepers act with virtually zero support and the Red Moon knows it. They hole up in a small airbase in the outskirts of the city, unable to act on anything more than punitive police actions. The commander, a driven veteran, takes his mission seriously though, willing to resort to underhanded means to expose the corruption of the Odrau government.

Japanese Self-Defense Force (JSDF)
Aspects: Mahou Shoujo; Demon Cannon Girls; More a Brand Name Than a Military Unit
Originally the Japanese military, the JSDF's conventional forces were absorbed directly into the APTO unified command a long time ago. Its continued existence as a separate, though much reduced, agency depends entirely on a unique unconventional force the Japanese pioneered - the so-called mahou shoujo, or magical girls. Equipped with Hakurei produced wands that bond with its wielder (but only girls and women) and arcanotech enhanced uniforms, the magical girls are both one-woman air wings and idols who provide a terrific PR boost.

The shelf life of magical girls on active duty tends to be pretty short. It is sadly not uncommon for a few to turn to mercenary work to pay the bills, or just to keep tearing monsters up.

Corporations
A very small list of the corporations that exist in nTech. These three have the most presence in Odrau, though.

Wukong Corporation
Aspects: They Who Fight Monsters; Rage Against the Machine; Kings of Metal
A corporation founded by rich, angry businessmen who suffered greatly when the Xanthic Storm swept over China. Wukong takes its namesake from the legendary Sun Wukong, and dedicates itself to fighting the armies of heaven as he did, no matter the cost. It specializes in countering and neutralizing magic in all forms, protecting homes and equipment from occult, and destroying the strange. While Muvians generally balk at the former, they find the latter useful they allow Wukong to implements way to ward off the creeping, magic-seeped jungle from their homes. In return, Wukong agents seek out strange beasts and other cryptids in the jungle, capturing them and stuffing them into their underground facilities for... experiments.

Aguila Digital
Aspects: Entertainment, Everywhere; One Node at A Time; Information High
The first megacorp that emerged from the Philippines after arcanotechnology revived the nation's economy. Aguila started as a electronics and software company known for unexpectedly popular MMOs, then expanded to the fields of telecommunications and live entertainment. Their most significant achievement last century was to connect all 7,107 of the Philippine islands to a vast, sublight broadband network (the better for them to advertise their MMOs and pop idols with). They seek to replicate this success in Odrau, updating the Muvian network to work with the rest of the world. Even while they sell their idols to the Muvian audience, Aguila keeps taps on their own network, listening in for local and corporate secrets to sell to the highest bidder.

Toku Heavy Industries
Aspects: Building Japan's Tomorrow Today; Wonders Of Engineering; Remember When We Rebuilt Tokyo
THI is an arcanotechnology and large-scale engineering firm. Unlike their contemporaries at Ashton Foundation, THI focuses on practical applications of arcanotech, working contract to contract to fund their projects. Most of their early work was based on reverse-engineering occult relics or expanding on existing theories, but now they're on the cutting edge of space travel, mecha and a few other tech-heavy fields. Toku has been responsible for most of the corporate expansion in Odrau, a lot of their efforts dedicated to reverse-engineering the more exotic parts of Muvian technology. They're most interested in replicating the ritual that brought Odrau here in the first place.

Other Organizations

Ashton Foundation
Aspects: Expanding the Frontiers of Arcanotechnology; Action Occultists; Muvian Experts
The occult pioneers. Their early work is based on the 2020s work of Miskatonic student Annabelle Ashton, who dug up forgotten tomes from the university's restricted section while researching an odd WikiLeaks release about a 1920s expedition to a plateau near Tibet. After she went mad, Miskatonic’s board of trustees gathered funding from APTO grants and private investors to form the Foundation that bears her name. Today's Ashton has four missions: researching the occult sciences, advising the NEG in occult matters, promoting awareness of the occult, and searching for occult relics around the world.

Like the NEG forces, the Foundation only acts as observers in the current conflict. Not that it stops their staff from going off on their own adventures, mind you.

Soul Network
Aspects: Secret Web of Secret Societies; Facing the Monsters at Our Door; Cancelling the Apocalypse
One of the big conceits in the original NTech was the Soul Network — a support network of secret societies dedicated to protecting humanity from the Mythos in ways even the OOI fears to. The OOI would disappear them if they had any leads, but don’t even know most of them exist.

There are several groups within the Soul Network, you can find them here. That said, if you want you play a Soul Network character, please pitch the concept to me before you actually make the sheet. Some groups would probably work really well in this game (Wolf Lodge, G://0st), while others probably less so (Tagers, Shinigami). I'm not going to reject any concept outright, but better to ask than be sorry.

Various Groups
Most of these aren't really organizations so much as categories, plus the very mysterious Mi-Go.

Criminal Syndicates
A sprawl as big and sudden as Odrau attracts all sorts of criminal types, even from other nations. The syndicates in the city, which include the Triads and the Russian Mob, act the city's arcane underground as they foster a black market of Muvian arms, arcane relics, and even exotic beasts from under the nose of the government. They make fair scratch out of that, though business has been severely crippled ever since martial law has made the usual trade routes a hassle to cross. It's because of that people say that some of the syndicates quietly support the Royal Guard with arms and supplies.

Para-Psychics
Some people are born with mental powers! Most PPs have one kind of power — telekinesis, telepathy, cryokinesis, dream projection, retrocognition, etc. PPs have to get registered with the government, and are required to wear a badge if their powers are dangerous or invasive. There’s a slightly higher rate of para-psychics born on Mars for some reason.

Akathar
Space drow The Akathar were created by the Yith and buried in the Great Sandy Desert a millenia or twenty ago, as backup bodies in case of emergency. Decades ago some Yith escaping an unknown catastrophe activated them and decided to ask the NEG for somewhere to hang out in exchange for some tech.

The akathar most people know are their mostly-human space drow children. Being raised in human communities with no culture beyond mysterious grandparents who never leave their homes unless they have high-level behind-the-scenes government jobs is weird, but they manage. Even most akathar don’t know their alien creators came from the future.

Mi-Go
The Mi-Go first introduced themselves to the public in 2065 by lasering the Storm’s command to stop them summoning an Ancient One. It was this event that convinced the world that banding together under the NEG might be a good idea. They are mysterious and alien. The NEG made the Charon Treaty with them (an agreement to stay out of each other’s business), but nobody trusts them and there’s usually some saber-rattling every few years or so. This is one of those years.

I have questions!
Mostly taken from Ettin's thread. More information, though Soul Network centric for the moment, here.

I want to be a wizard, how do I make that happen?
You'll want to have it as part of your high concept, and you may want to make a Wizard Mode. Actually casting spells will just be using a Lore skill to create aspects, or handled with a tweaked version of Invention using magical Lores for bigger rituals, or summoning things, or making artifacts. Using magic to fight - to throw fireballs and so forth - is just part of Combat. Stunts and especially Mega-Stunts will help too.

What about tagers? Do tagers still do a skill switch?
To keep things simple, no. Tager changes will be built as a modified version of a Hardware Mega-Stunt. All Tager transformations should have the Flaw "Vulnerable to Stross Primes." Then you get some Stunts and Mega-Stunts that you can only use when you switch into your Tager form. You may want a Mode to go with the Tager form as well. Check out the Beast, Dinosaur, and Mutant Modes for examples, as well as stunts a Tager might like.

You mentioned Invention, will Brainstorms make an appearance?
We'll see. From past experiences, I'll definitely need ways to speed it up for the PBP format.

Did the Cubans still get kicked out to make way for the special not-not-elves?
No that was dumb. We can work out something like it if you have an idea for a Cuban character though!

Trix, would you be opposed to taking a page out of The Laundry or Hellboy?
Do it.

Am I anime enough?
Your heart knows the answer.

Muslims!
CthulhuTech's fluff on Islam is stupid and racist, so we are ignoring it. Instead, here's a cool thing MorsRattus wrote:

<MorsRattus> Also, Ettin, as for what is going on with Islam: I would actually imagine, like, very little in the way of change
<MorsRattus> Since Islam has already explicitly got room for creatures that are neither angel nor human
<MorsRattus> so aliens just get slotted, theologically, into the same slot as 'jinn'
<MorsRattus> okay, bam, we done, they can be muslims if they want

Do Nazzadi still lack a nudity taboo?
No creepy bits!

hey trix your post doesn't explicitly say rape camps are out
No creepy bits!

Intelligence agencies!
This post listed CthulhuTech's intelligence agencies and some of their subdivisions; swap "OIS" with "OOI" and you should be good.

How much explosions will this game have?
All of them.

Aren't there giant robots in this setting?
Yes!

These are a lot of words!
I'm sorry.

The pawsting business is tough work.
Question, will this game actually update or will you also run off to Fiji with what remains of our crowdfunding dollars after getting the entire cast of Dangan Ronpa tattooed on your back?

As a followup, are the player characters going to start off as a unified mercenary/smuggling enterprise, or is that something you're hoping to develop organically as the game progresses?

I'll do my best to actually start this one. :cheeky: If it helps, I've thought about running this for a long time.

Also yeah, you start off working for a mercenary/smuggling company (I don't have a name yet, open to suggestions). Anything you do before or after that is up to you!

Mekyla Kruger

High Concept: Ice-Cold Former Agent

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa to a poor family, Mekyla joined the OOI at a young age due to her exceptional cryokinetic para-psychic powers and her skills with firearms. However, she quit when one of her missions forced her to shut down a research project that, if completed, would have brought prosperity to her neighborhood. After that, she decided that the government didn't always know what was best and became a gun for hire, moving from place to place until she finally rooted herself in Odrau.

Mekyla is a generally soft-spoken person, who carries out missions with an ice-cold precision, many times literally. One of the only subjects that will get her to perk up is her home country, as she has a great national pride, and she'll often use South African slang in general conversation. As a soldier of fortune, she's amassed a small black book for contacts in the underworld, a lot of whom owe her favors.

Action: Trigger Finger For The Highest Bidder
Para-Psychic: A Song of Just Ice, No Fire
Intrigue: Friends in Low Places

Oooh, shiny shiny and I like Trix games! One second! Going to make an ex-Xanthic Stormchaser (STALKER but IN CHINA!) from the nERU. I'll fill these in bit by bit.

Voytek Strzelski

quote:

"The scientists and the academics, they don't like our term, 'relics'. They say it gives too much deference to the Xanthic Storm cults and not enough to science and study. Well, here we have a small selection of items. Crystals, clothing, wands, jewelry, books, the odd fingerbone or femur. As of yet, the only connection made between these objects is their handling by members of the Xanthic Storm, perhaps powerful sorcerers, perhaps whatever power they wielded. Now these items have strange and unusual properties--nothing about 'are said to have', I've seen them and handled them, and they are definitely strange. I challenge you to find a wooden ladle that will, without heat, perfectly cook any stew you stir with it, or a pair of coins that will move heaven and earth to remain precisely fifty centimeters apart and parallel, elsewhere on earth. Of course there are many forgeries of such things, with magnets and chemicals, but they don't count. We sell these items to researchers and corporations for a certain fee, and they go and enshrine them in their laboratories and universities. And any student of the subject will travel from far and wide on a rumor that they are there, in that building, under the bell jar or in the strange and esoteric machine in the lowest levels of the laboratory, closely studied by the greatest of physicists and engineers. Tell me, then, how these items differ from those saints' bones and prophets' robes that millennia ago were called 'relics'?"

When the Xanthic Storm retreated from eastern China in the face of alien bombardment, it left quite a changed landscape in its wake. From the North China Plain to the Tibetian Himalayas, massive spaces of land and village ruins had been...altered by their continuous exposure to the Storm. Some places had inverted, turning hillsides into great dips below sea level; in others, time seemed to flow backwards, drawing Maoist and nationalist slogans on the suddenly fixed walls before being "underpainted" by Manchu proclamations. Large portions of the country were alien zones, and when a company of the regular army marched forward to reclaim it and came back a week later as feeble old men, the provisional government threw up their hands and attempted to guard and screen the area as a total disaster Storm Eye Zone. Of course eventually an academic noticed that a few items on the very periphery of the Eye acted in odd ways, and that researching them could lead to a better understanding of the Xanthic Storm and occult phenomena in general. And an illegal but quietly accepted trade developed where particularly brave, skilled, greedy or suicidal people would brave the Eye to retrieve these strange materials, later called "relics", and sell them to Chinese nationals, who could in turn figure out how to reclaim the Eye from them, or resell them to international institutions to finance reconstruction.

They called themselves STORM Chasers: Scavengers, Trespassers, Observers, Retrievers, Murderers, Chasers. What they chased wasn't always so clear from person to person, but their trade and their survival skill was never in doubt. What better "career choice" for a drifting young man from a traditionalist town on the Polish-Russian border, seeking freedom from bratva internal struggles and condescending references to a particular part of his personality and selfhood as a "certain incurable case"?

Voytek might have picked up the rules of the game fast--armor is less useful than something you can run fast in, subaltern officers can be relied on to get stuff out of the Eye without reporting you, and never EVER pick up something in a severely touched zone without prodding it from far away first--but he could nver have anticipated getting caught in the middle of a multi way firefight between Chinese army units, Xanthic cultist holdouts, a warlord and his guard, and a Bratva sponsored STORM Chaser group. One anti-Xanthic grade white phosphorous grenade air bursting in his face later, and he promptly started breaking all the rules to try to get out. Not easy with half your face--and an eye--charred to a cinder.

He's always been a little bit cagey about how he got out of that situation, not only intact, but arguably better than before. And truth be told, Voytek's not entirely clear on it himself. He knows he was at least two weeks in from the border, but he also fell into a ruined bubble where time went completely off the rocker--he has vague memories of being aged into dust and then back again in an instant. And he also managed to get his hands on a brightly glowing amber crystal while stumbling around half blind. The rest is a blur, but he must have shoved it into his eye socket, because that's how he woke up on a Chinese army hospital gurney. With left eye sight intact and the slim musculature, low fat, and lack of body and facial hair of someone half his chronological age. Taking it as a sign to begin life anew, he cashed out most of his relics, made his final goodbyes, and left the Eye behind. Odrau seemed like the perfect place to retire--enough flux in the government that no one would ask questions about his money, enough people of all kinds to blend in, and a nice bit of native flora to remind him of his happy days in the Eye.

Well, soon he was picking fights with gopniki who had the same idea about retiring. And then he had to spend a week in Muvian prison (Not. Fun.) after he punched someone connected with the new ruling junta for mocking his "certain incurable case". And truth be told, he'd always wanted a bit more sunlight, and a chance to use his new eye. He wasn't getting any younger. (Or older.) It was time to get a new job...maybe one where his time in the Eye of the Xanthic Storm would be useful. And this startup company sounds like just the ticket.

High Concept: Not-so-Retired Xanthic Storm Scavenger

Tzera (WIP)

Tzera is an Odrau native, born in the good old days of around 20,000 BC and raised in the 22nd century AD after the city-state's little time skip. Her surviving family were mostly temple guards and soldiers, and they get by by hiring themselves out as mercenaries. Tzera does too, but she grew up with modern tech and has embraced it in a way they never could: she's crowdfunded.

Originally she simply defended her neighbourhood on behalf of local backers, but these days she provides broader services. She blogs about weapons and military tech, and sometimes corps send her new and experimental stuff to try out. Backers have paid for guns, armour and a few cybernetic upgrades to deal with injuries she earned in the post-timeskip skirmishes. Sometimes people hit her up on Mubook with jobs they're not comfortable advertising in public. That sort of thing. It's pretty much like being a regular mercenary but you spend more time on social media.

Lately, Tzera's been thinking of forming her own startup mercenary company instead of just hiring herself out as a "trouble consultant". She just needs a little more scratch, and this delivery service looks fun...

Sponsored By...: Once per scene, Tzera can create an advantage related to one of her sweet pieces of corporate tech for free (like Hakurei Battle Suit or If It Took More Than One Shot, You Weren't Using A Wukong). This doesn't get any free invokes, but she can add some with Contacts.

Human

Tager (Phantom)

There are only two constants in Burchard's life stories. The first is that he was a member of a Singaporean 'private conflict resolution and support' organization as a foot soldier and occasional 'infiltration and espionage specialist'.
This is where his stories start to diverge. In some tellings, he was contacted almost randomly by an employer working to make history by bonding a willing participant to an artificial ta'ge symbiote, and after several tests, contracts, and payments, he successfully became a full Tager, and was sent on his way with all records of the experiments deleted. In other stories, he was caught while inside a high-tech research facility and both tortured and experimented both technologically and magically before being left on Odrau for dead. After this, Burchard either was expelled from his organization for being a high-risk investment, enjoyed many more years in the organization before leaving to pursue life as a freelance grunt, or was sent on an assignment to the South China Sea, posing as a mercenary to get information on a high-profile target(s). In at least one telling, he's actually on vacation and got bored.
The other constant in his various 'mysterious' (scatterbrained) origins is that he's now working as a soldier, tager, and infiltrator for hire in Ordau. All he has to do is manage to keep a low profile while also being an actual monster.

cool but crude
I hope the math checks out, it's been a while since I made a R character.

Hape Kaiser

Born in the Midwestern region of the NERU, Hape joined the military shortly after graduating high school and went on to become a professional soldier for the next 20 years of his life throughout various institutions and armies. His excellent performance soon got him from the national NERU forces into the global NGE military, where he soon joined the Taskforce Odrau, the NGE army detachment that ostensibly was in charge of keeping the small new nation together. After his honorable discharge from the armed service, he decided to live out his retirement on the small island kingdom, preferring the much sunnier weather he had grown accustomed to to the cold and wet seasons of his homeland and hoping that his military background and connections would provide him plenty of work and action if he ever felt he needed more excitement in his life.

High Concept: Explosion Enthusiast Demolition Expert

Hape's field of expertise back in his army days were, to but it broadly, anything that would or could explode. As a soldier of the NERU and NGE forces, he served as grenadier and designated demoman, in charge of heavy explosives and mines, and latter, during his time with the taskforce, he added he fabrication and utilization of various types of IEDs to his arsenal until he became on of the leading experts in the on field application of detonations as a military tactic. But for Hape, it was more than a mere task he excelled in. For him, it was an art. The ability to bring forth the destructive forces of the universe had poetry to it. They are his magic.

Invoke: To force your way through obstacles with blunt force, to be direct and unsubtle
Compel: To be impatient, to dismiss diplomatic or indirect approaches

Science: Yes, explosions are a science!

Chances are, if a substance does carry any explosive potential, Hape is the guy who can bring it out. Years and years of military service, and not only expertise, but also enthusiasm, in the field of "blowing poo poo up" have left him with an incredible practical knowledge of the various mundane and magical ways to destroy things on a larger scale. However, since he never went to college and was only an average student in high school, he might not know the right academical terms or the theoretical background of the various devices he worked with and has a healthy bit of attitude towards those he considers "elitist theorists" or "armchair experts", who lack the practical experience he has build his life around.

Invoke: To analyze and understand the explosive potential of various devices, to construct and use various explosives.
Compel: To be out of your depth among scientist, to be ignorant or dismissive of other sciences.

Action: Taskforce Veteran

Being a life long military man left ape with a lot of military expertise, even outside his passions. He knows how to handle himself in firefights and melee combat, he can operate a variety of military vehicles and he understands the ins and outs of military etiquette and operations. It also informs much of his people skills. He is a rough guy who is used to gruff people, rude language and settling disagreements with either a drinking contest or a fist fight. He can be hard and direct and expects people to act cool under fire and he doesn't like to explain himself. Since the taskforce was often involved in clandestine operations, that technically went outside of what they were officially allowed to do, he knows the value of a quick and clean operation that don't leave any evidence and clues to identify the perpetrators.

Invoke: To fight and operate like a trained military force, to hit hard and fast
Compel: To rigidly stick to a plan, to instinctively trusting authority

Banter: We work hard, we play hard!

As any good soldier knows, hard work requires good R&R. As serious and professional as Hape might be while on a job, as hard he knows o party when he got the time for it. He can be a jovial and chummy guy in his down time and he does know how to enjoy himself. He knows how to keep up with old friends and colleges, even now that he is retired and still hang out in the local soldier joints, keeping a good repertoire with both, officers and enlisted men. As a result, he is still very much in the loop when it comes to military operations in and around Odrau and generally well liked among the expats and lower class Muvians, with many acquaintance and contacts across the city.

Invoke: To chat up people, to gather information
Compel: To goof of, to be recognized

Omega: Absolutely fabulous!

Skills:
pre:
           Science (+3) Action (+2) Banter (+1)
Superb (+5) Explosions

Great (+4) Will, Notice Physique

Fair (+2) Athletics Contacts

Average (+1) Deceive, Empathy
                                                  Rapport

Points: Science 3, Action 9, Banter 9; Specialized Explosions 3, Specialized Physique 3, Focused Combar 1, Focused Contacts 1, Focused Vehicles 1= 0

Stunts:

Combat Driver: Hape has driven in and out of enough dangerous situation to know how to handle them. +2 when operating a vehicle in such a situation.

Full Body Contact: Hape can use Physique instead of Combat when he is in an unarmed fight.

BOOOM!: As long as he has at least one explosive device on him, Hape can attack with Explosives.

Trust me, anything can be an explosive if you can improvise: Hape doesn't suffer penalties from the lack of proper materials or working place when inventing explosive devices.

Let me call a friend, who is an expert in this:From his military days, Hape know a lot of people who have special knowledge in a variety of fields, who still owe him one or or favors. For a Fate point, he can call upon these guys to call in any kind of favor.

Wait a minute...
Going to go for a classy Royalist-sympathizing battle sorcerer. I'm a bit unfamiliar with the system but this looks too fun to pass up. Now finished.

Arman Hadian, The Sudden Dawn

Arman is what you would call a sorcerer, if you had no further interest in what life has to offer. To him, "Sorcerers" and the fools who fear them are brown-nosing sycophants who make deals they can't read with beings they don't understand. True, he had his own share of unexplainable abilities. His parents once found him at the peak of a condemned New Jakarta skyscraper, casually smoking a Cuban cigar on an outcrop of rebar. Policemen who hassled him over his expensive suits found their stations blasted into more pieces than they could count. Whatever the source of his powers was, he was no slave to its terms: they had a gentleman's agreement.

If there's anything he obeys in life, it is standards. In an age of endless gadgetry Arman accomplishes things with the old ways: stealth, attention, and raw physical force. Extracting a briefcase of weapons-grade blackmail from APTO? Not a fingerprint was left in the building. Assaulting a chapel-fortress of Azathoth in the Philippine jungle? No one was left alive to tell the tale. He's broken bodies over spoiled Scotch. Mention of the wizards' coup in Odrau makes him visibly irate: Odraun contacts now stand 30 meters away on principle. 50 meters if his cybernetic eye starts flashing red.

In between assignments Arman somehow found time to marry and see his daughter grow up. He's never mentioned his wife's name or his daughter's: if you figured them out they would have to kill you, and Arman says that's quite the pity. Allegedly they have beautiful names. We've found credit debriefings that suggest his daughter was in a work-stay program in Japan before her recruitment into the JSDF. She's now known as the "Faery Princess in Yellow" and may match her father in sheer unarmed firepower. He's signed up with some shell company of a front of an Odraun courier service and she's headed south on an APTO destroyer. That poor, poor island chain. May Allah rest their souls in peace.

Stunts

You fiend, Trix, you know I've got to get in on this. (Now done afaik)

/

Alaric Burkhart was described as a prodigy, a genius in the making, and a brilliant child. At least, his rich parents and rich school teachers described him as such. It was on these glowing references that Wukong Corp hired him and shipped him off to Odrau, looking to exploit his work for the Extreme Combat Systems project - a way to make the blue-sky concept mecha and robotics a reality.

It took six months for them to begin to regret the decision. Alaric WAS a genius, but it came with a boatload of... eccentries. For instance, he didn't see the issue with a missile system that fired tracking pods containing grape jello. Or a cannon that fired classical music - not a sonic weapon, just sheets of classical music. And when he built a mecha that danced whenever Redbone's Come and Get Your Love was played (an exercise in keeping balance, he claimed), it was the last straw. They threatened to fire him unless he could build something useful - an "anti-magic bomb" that temporarily nullified non-Euclidian mathematics in an area. Alaric went at it with gusto.

It was a great success. Nobody at Wukong Odrau could cast a spell for three months. Alaric was fired faster than a human cannonball.

Alaric doesn't blame himself for his failure. It's somebody else's fault. Wukong for not being innovative enough. Or maybe the cults for doing... something behind the scenes, he's sure. Or it's the magic users, for cheating and bypassing all the hard work with their fancy lights and maths. He just wanted to build robots! But he'll show them... as soon as the bugs are worked out. And this courier job looks like the perfect place to get some cash together, and field test a few things...

Beat your head against the wall
Two dead ends and you still gotta choose

Mai Yamane shows up a couple years ago in Odrau with no money, no weapons, and no connections. Inside of a month she's working as Rosalina Silang's fixer and half the toughs in Shambala Ward are dodging out of her way on the sidewalk. What the hell happened? Who's this anglo with the Japanese name, why does she spook so many people, and why is she working for anyone, let alone Silang?

She doesn't talk about herself as a matter of policy. She'll tell you as much, and that's about all you'll get. "Mai" is pretty obviously not the name she popped out of the womb with, or else Mom and Dad were some serious weeaboos. But she's sharp with a pen, she's got a serious ear for gossip and she's violently loyal to her new boss.

The man with the suit and the face
You knew that he was there on the case

Occasionally these really high-speed corpsec types show up and start asking questions like they were the world's heaviest-armed focus group, wanting to know about singers and musicians. Doesn't make sense, but...

Rumor is, one time this slick business guy shows up at Silang's, suit priced way out of their clientele base. He's real weird, been walking around with a briefcase and a pair of big drat headphones, just pacing around Shambala all by his lonesome. Eventually he zeroes in on the smugglers, he goes into the office, and nobody ever sees him come out. That's gotta mean something, right?

I know you're workin' for the C-I-A
Wouldn't have you in the Maf-I-A

You know how Fatty Ngyuen says he lost his fingers to a loan shark? Not true, not true. Lost 'em to the secretary. Dunno how it started - scuttlebutt says he lost a bet and didn't pay up - but I know how it ended. He busts into the Head one night, screaming about how she's done some computer thing, stole his money, she's gonna pay, right? She hits him so hard he nearly falls over, he pulls a gun, she pulls her gun, the whole place goes off. Once the noise dies back down, I poke my head out and she's got his hand on the bar and she's got a cleaver in the other hand. I didn't quite make out what she told him, 'cause there were loving guns going off in the room just then, but I swear to God, whatever she said involved the words "spreadsheet" and "deductible."

Flying insects buzzing, buzzing, buzzing through the air

So Mai is maybe the one thing the bugs don't go for. Maybe she doesn't have the right pheromones. Maybe there's something up with her blood. But she's the one person in all of Odrau without a single bug bite on their body.

To the end of our health, a campaign 'gainst myself
Armed with bourbons and scotches and rums

If you value your life, don't try and outdrink the secretary.

A suspiciously familiar character sheet! Lemme know if there's something in there that doesn't jive with your plans. Picture when I draw it, will probably put some extended aspect notes in when it's not early early early.

Actually I lied, I have an even better idea. Criminal shenanigans on an island nation undergoing political turmoil is the perfect opportunity to resurrect an old favorite of mine.

Natalya Voronova

Natalya Voronova is a self-styled "infiltration artist," an career cat burglar of international renown. An enthusiastic transhumanist with a bold sense of personal style and a healthy disregard for propriety or social norm, Natalya has pushed her body to the cutting edge of augmentation to the point where it's uncertain whether she teeters on the edge of cyberpsychosis or not. Her prima donna personality doesn't do much to allay such suspicions, see-sawing between grinning playfulness and cold-blooded anger (or cheerful violence) sometimes in the span of a single conversation...and yet she has a solid reputation for getting whatever job she's been hired to do done with a minimum of complications, which suggests that her behavior might simply just be part of her act.

Natalya's specialty is on-site physical infiltration. Hardware retrieval, target extraction, security assessment, reconnaissance, urban exploration, art theft...if it has to do with going where she's not supposed to be without being caught, chances are she's done it. In addition to the work she does for clients, Natalya regularly releases lifecast recordings both of her hired exploits as well as challenges she undertakes on her own, such as BASE jumping from off-limits areas, augmented parkour chases across cityscape rooftops, and breaking into secure areas just for the thrill of it. She's plied her trade across six continents, from Dubai to the Seattle Metroplex and all points in between, and has over two dozen Interpol Red Notices to her name.

Odrau isn't her first choice of residence, or her second or her third for that matter. The climate is too wet and too warm, everything is surrounded by treacherous jungle, and the coup hasn't done much to improve things either. In fact, she'd happily leave the island and its troubles to themselves and head back home to Russia if it weren't for the little matter of a price on her head courtesy of the Vory v Zakone. A Pakhan in Vladivostok took it upon himself to "renegotiate the terms" of a job he'd hired her to do after the fact. In exchange she uploaded some extremely embarrassing (and incriminating) recordings of him to the internet, which both went viral and led to his incarceration. In need of a place to lie low a contact recommended Odrau as both remote enough to allow the head to die down and rife with business opportunities.

So far the opportunities have proven less than thrilling, some corporate espionage here and commissioned thefts there, enough to pay the rent and keep her in drinks but dreadfully dull for a professional of her caliber. The remoteness, at least, has proven as effective as advertised, and while the Russian Mafiya has made itself home on the island the local bosses are far enough away from Russia proper that they feel no special compunction to hunt her down over tending to their own fledgeling business interests...for now.

Basically this. A whole lot of blue-collar workers moved in to build infrastructure for Wukong and Toku, so that's why there's so many East Asian people living here. Because thirteen years ago Odrau was even weirder than it is now, people used to move in close to their corporations.

My family was too white-collar for the jobs back then, so we didn't move here until the second wave of office workers. By then, all the corp housing was bursting full and we got ourselves a nice Muvian apartment nearby, and that's how Little Ikebukuro started spreading out. We didn't call it that until, I dunno, six or seven years ago, though. Until then it was just "the Toku town". I don't really know how that happened.

Hey, look, you stick with me, and I'll take us right to the top. I mean, I'll be the one at the top, but I'll have a spot right next to me, you know?

Where the megacorps go, crime follows. Ain't nobody or nothing's fault, it's just the way of things. The megacorps bring the people, but they can't supply EVERYTHING. Lots a stuff people want that aren't exactly legal for them to provide. That's where we step in. Reagents, tomes, artifacts, a bit of arcane muscle, parapsychic negotiators, and so on. Not so much the body guards on account of the Greens 'round here, but you get the idea. We're the Arcane Underground, and we RUN this corner of the grey market. Most of us're Akathar; what can I say, we take to magic easily. More of us go parapsychic then humans, you know? And I'd know, I am one. Well, a MINOR one. We were practically born with a book of long forgotten secrets in our laps. We didn't exactly start off with a place in the world, so we carved one out, and feel free to take that literally, 'cause magic knives are a lot more common then magic guns. It also makes one hell of a statement.

I digress. Point is, Odrau had a lot of needs that the corps couldn't all handle. We're an international bunch; our main outfit's based mostly in the Chicago-Milwaukee Metroplex, but we got folk all over the world. Mostly APTO, but enough in SEAA to matter. Think of it: this big new city, filled to the BRIM with magic, opens up, and what do you think is gonna happen? Of course someone's sent in! Far as I know it was just me, though it wouldn't surprise me if others were shipped in just as blind. My job was simple: make friends. No problem, I've always been a sociable guy. Get those networks set up, so when the big dog comes, they got a place already waitin' for 'em. Me, I see this as my chance to go up the ranks a bit; sue me, I'm ambitious.

Things went fine at first. I did my job, kept my spine straight, made more friends then enemies which not many in my line of work can claim to. Regular talk back home, looked like a clean transition. Every so often I get shipments in to start testing the waters in our product, and shipments start leaving so the boys back home can see what this island can offer outside of clean cash. Then these wizard motherfuckers roll in and lock everything down. AU backs up immediately; they ain't going to jump into military waters. Where do you think that leaves me, huh? Suddenly, I ain't got no backup. Suddenly, I ain't got no merchandise rolling in. That's a bad situation all around. But I'm an optimistic guy, you know? So I rethink this, and I come to a rather nice solution: if the AU ain't gonna set up shop here, then I'm gonna take over for 'em. Remember that bit on being ambitious? You ain't seen nothin' yet.

'Course, nobody just starts as the guy who runs the city. You gotta pay your dues, work your way up. I'm just one guy. A fantastic guy, a guy brilliant at his job, a guy you absolutely want on your side, a guy who can throw fireballs, but still just singular. I need a team. Luck's turning my way though, 'cause I think I might've found one.

Superb +5	Threads, Notice

Fair +2 Deceive, Lore: Wards and Dispel
Average +1	Mythos
Weird Skill: Threads (2)
Junko, thanks to her wand, can project threads. They are very versatile, varying in color, thickness, and durability depending on intended use.
Attack: For cutting enemies with razor-sharp thread, flinging knives about, or otherwise using objects in the environment to give her foes a bad day.
Defend: To redirect blows, cut up projectiles, and when necessary--get out of the way fast.
Overcome: To climb, to swing from place to place, and so on.
Create Advantage: To trip up and entangle her foes, to confuse them with mysterious threads.

Stunts:
Megastunt – Mahou Shoujo (4 Total)
-Marketable Indestructibility: Basic wards render any Magical Girl highly resistant to conventional arms fire. The kind of wards a veteran like Seamstress lays on make those look like a joke. That’s without even going into the kind of exclusion zone that her threads can make. You’re better off staying home and practicing your needlepoint for all the good guns or knives will do you. Only thing they really can’t handle is electricity—got something to do with patrons that the JSDF bargained with. Weakness: Electricity
-Witch’s Wards (Armor +2/+2): Every soldier learns that general issue only goes so far. Sometimes...you got to make your own assurances. Underneath her costume is the latest in concealable body armored, embroidered across every inch with wards of her own design, independent of the wand, working day and night to protect her mind and body from any assailant foolish enough to mean her harm.
-Looming (Weapon +2, +4 at a cost): Thanks to the wand bonded to her very soul, a miracle of Japanese Arcanotechnology, Seamstress can produce durable threads from nothing. With a little creativity, this made her one of the most lethal Girls in the Corps. When she chooses to, she calls her weapon "Looming" and lets her foes figure out why.

Dance, Puppets, Dance!: +2 to create an advantage with Threads when multiple gunmen are in range of each other, allowing for a crossfire. It’s a lovely little trick that she pulls out to puppet her enemies into shooting at each other.
My Other Magic Wand: The Witch's pride and joy, her H&K USP custom from her time in the Corps. Internal suppressor precision engineered to make it fire quieter than mouse farts and built for her and her alone, from the shape of the grip to the line-up of the sights. It offers Weapon 2 and +1 to Stealth when attempting to avoid detection in an appropriate combat situation.
All Sewn Up: Whenever an advantage created by Threads is invoked it provides +3 rather than +2
Wicked: May use Provoke in place of Contacts in order to intimidate the good folks of Odrau into giving her room, board, and other sundry things. Sometimes, they're even kind enough to let her borrow their car.

Background
Two AM. Snake’s Head is as dead as the green-skinned barman’s eyes, a slave whose masters have been dead since before the written word but who can’t forget his wounds. He idly cleans a glass as he looks over his last patron. “Another,” she mutters, head down, mess of blonde hair and tails obscuring her face. “Closing time. And besides, don’t you think you’ve had enough?”

She slams down the glass and repeats herself, “Another.”

“I know how this plays out. I give you another, then another, and I’m here til dawn. I got to sleep too. Go home, or whatever hole you’re slumming in now.”

She puts something else up on the table; a wand, a little more than a meter long and silver in appearance. The end is tipped with a needle, a small oval opening a third of the length through the wand breaking its perfect surface. The head is capped with a strangely patterned ball, almost like yarn, its color shifting. “Another, motherfucker.” She looks up, matching him eye for eye.

The barman doesn’t blink. Instead, he matches her bet. He pulls a Muvian firearm from under the bar, glowing with menace. In her experience, those things are wildcards; and not worth fighting over a drink. “Fine, Vellu, you win tonight. You defeated the wicked witch.” Vellu puts the gun away and goes back to shutting down the bar as his last patron flips him off and leaves. Forgetting, as they often do, that you should never take your eyes off a witch.

When she’s done flipping off Vellu, a gossamer thread running from her middle finger draws taught and a bottle of vodka comes with her. Stepping out into the street, she’s an Edwardian vision in purple, somehow blending in among the ancient reliefs and arcanotech both old and new. Drawing gleaming thread around her fingers, she uses it to tear the top off the bottle, but she shears straight through the glass. “poo poo. Whatever, same difference.” She takes a swig

And immediately spits it out. “What is this poo poo?!” She looks at the label. “Oreo Vodka? Vellu, you sonuvabitch! Do I look like some sorority girl to you?! You planned this, I know it!” She can just imagine him, laughing to himself and adding a whole bottle of this swill to her tab. Lot that’ll do him; like she’ll pay her bills anytime soon. She slumps in a corner and drinks the sickly-sweet swill. Even if she had a job, he’ll have to get in line.

She hasn’t had a real job in weeks. Her “severance” from the JSDF burnt up months ago so now she’s running entirely on fumes, intimidation, and favors. But even now, she’s still an optimist, sort of. Something will come up. Or it won’t. Either way, she’ll handle it like she always does. So long as she has her wand and her USP, she’s ready for what comes. She takes another swig and shudders. “Tastes like poo poo.” Reminds her of the squad, too. She takes another drink, deeper this time, hoping to kill the memories.

Not too long ago, she wasn’t a witch. She was Junko Aoki, the latest inductee to the JSDF’s legendary Mahou Shoujo program. It’s every girl’s dream growing up. You see your heroes on TV and buy their dolls in the stores and their music online and all the time thinking “All I want is to be like her.” And then you, not your sister, or any of your friends, gets picked to join the corps. You’re one of the rare few to pass the tests. You’ve got the stuff, they say, to protect the world from evil and fight for love, friendship, and justice.

You don’t catch on right away. The handlers know what they’re doing. But everyone eventually learns the truth. You’ll be lucky if you can find someone to watch your back in the MS Corps and love sure as hell has nothing to do with what they do. Justice is nowhere to be found. No, you’re a face, bought and paid for by the state. You show up for the press, you look pretty. You smile. You sing. You say what’s on the cue cards like a good little girl.

And when they tell you to kill, you kill.

You’re not stupid, you know that there’s bad people. That’s why the JSDF exists: to stop the bad people. But you could never have expected that there would this much killing. The handlers are careful to bring the girls down after the missions, it’s important that the public not learn what kind of monster their daughters have become. So they keep going to events. But everyone has a breaking point. Like Okinawa.

The call came in early in the morning. A situation that Public Security had been monitoring looked like it was about to go hot. Nuclear-hot. Junko and her squad were to suit up for a lift to a small island west of Okinawa. The briefing on the watercraft was worryingly swift. Details were sparse as Public Security had only just begun to look into kidnappings in the area when suddenly aerials of the island set off alarm bells at HQ. They weren’t even sure who was stirring the poo poo here. But, any amateur could tell that those were some pissed-off leylines getting ready to tear reality a new one, and they were hardly amateurs; each hardened veterans of the Corps. That’s why they were chosen, and because they were the premier stealth unit. Their mission: Assess the threat and destroy it if possible. If not, pull back and call in a strike team. Time was of the essence and information was sparse, so every second mattered.

“Maps and all pertinent information are on your pads. And of course, you can rely on Amadeus for arcanetechnical support.” Amadeus was their “mascot”. Every squad got one, and each looks unique, its designing farmed out at great expense to popular manga artists using highly confidential contracts. Amadeus was a sort of blue penguin-like creature with a red bowtie and top hat. In reality, they are familiars, contracted and tamed by the Japanese government to support the MS program. Most are very smart, soaking up mission parameters like a sponge, and are useful in setting up rituals while the squad does more active things. He was their third “Amadeus”.

“Sir,” Karin, their squad leader stepped forward and saluted. “What is the civilian situation on the island?”

The handler looked at her for a moment, adjusting his green suit. Each handler went under a color-coded pseudonym, to add to the playful atmosphere that the propaganda pretended was ever-present in the Mahou Shoujo Corps. “You know the deal, Princess Dusk,” Mr. Emerald told Karin in an even tone. “If it moves…”

“Kill it!” We responded in unison.

He patted her on the head. “Good. Glad we got that sorted out. Hopefully this is just a dragon of the earth turning in his sleep or some dumb kids loving with the wrong book. You girls have to go to be in Hong Kong tomorrow to promote your CD. Be a shame if we had to put it off.” Soon, the craft came to a stop behind a rock. The squad made entry under their own power, Pretty Cerulean Misaki made the water walkable and squad leader Karin made the dark just a bit darker. Six girls and one familiar set foot on that island. Only one of them would leave.

It went to poo poo the moment they hit land. Three shots ring out, dispelling Karin’s shadow and bringing down poor Hina, spraying bits of her skull all over the squad. Not even enough of her brain left to resurrect. Goddammit. Sniper went down like a bitch but goddammit. All we could do was mark her position with Amadeus for possible retrieval.

Without Hina, we were blind. She and Sakura were our eyes and ears. Hina could look through any mirror. If it was clear enough, she could use it like a door and send something through. They had ended more than a few missions by putting a bomb under someone’s toilet. Sakura had more mobility, since among her powers was the ability to control birds. She could see and hear through them, but as luck would have it, there wasn’t one to be found on the island. Her owl, Archimedes, was still at HQ, nursing his leg from the last mission. So they were poo poo out of luck.

From there, it went from bad to worse. It was clear that these cultists had slipped under the radar far too long. They had turned the island into a goddamn deathtrap. Every which way they turned was another minefield, a nest of hungry spirits, or a sniper. Normal bullets wouldn’t have mattered, not with even standard MS wards, but these cultists were packing top of the line poo poo and even their modified wards couldn’t handle that for long.

Misaki fell next, bleeding out in the river with her left arm and half her leg missing, her power the only thing keeping her alive. Mao, proud, strong Mao, got torn apart by some kind of demon. Turns out that even if you’re made of iron, you can’t survive without a head. Sakura was fast. Junko never saw how she died, but she definitely heard the screams after volunteered to lead the “dogs” away from them. She held Karin in her arms as she lay, bleeding to death from a dozen bullet wounds, bites and gouges, as Amadeus urged her on towards their objective.

She ordered Amadeus to seal village, the final stop on the island. Nothing would go in or out. Obediently, the spirit began his workings as Karin breathed her last. Junko, bleeding, her colorful dress torn, exposing the runed ballistic vest underneath and all her goodies. No Mahou Shoujo is provided with body armor, but the smart ones invest in some, just in case. Her USP is clearly visible in its holster opposite to her wand. She limbers up her fingers as she treads towards the village, barely looking at the unearthly glow of the strange ritual going on before her. Glittering lines draw from the head of her wand to her fingers. To her many knives. Spreading out. Drawing tight.

By dawn, not a thing, living or dead, stirred on that island, save for Junko Aoki. 108 men, women, and other things hung from the trees of that terrible island. Amadeus was terminated in the action. Junko remains silent on how and when this occurred, and the spirit’s memory was corrupted, so he offered no insight. When she left that island, she stopped being Junko Aoki forever. From that point on, she was Seamstress, a killer. She was what they would come to call her, in her last few months in the Corps, before she lit out with whatever she could steal: the Witch of Okinawa.

More Zen than Zenyatta

A. Val Saito

You think the corporations were the only ones to latch onto the honey pot that is Odrau? There's more then just ancient tech in those islands. You just had to see the forest for the trees, and I mean that literally. Plenty of money to be made in the hundreds of new greens that got imported alongside everything else. The common man's magic, the last refuge of sanity, whatever you call it, the right people were on it like flies on a pile of rotting fruit. They set up shop just like the big boys and brought over everything needed to carve a new market into Odrau. Of course, setting up trade requires a lot of manpower and that manpower needs protection, same as everything else in this world.

Enter Val Saito. Originally a former soldier of the SEAA's Armed Forces, a completely healthy addiction to stimulants and other such performance enhancers saw her discharged from service. She soon found employment again under the Triads who just so happened to need muscle for their new operation in Odrau. With a steady paycheck, plus firsthand access to the latest in narcotics, Val was more than happy to accept her new posting.

Life was good for her in the islands. When she had made it clear on several occasions that jobs involving lots of standing around doing nothing weren't her forte, the Triad began loaning her services to other groups in the area. Generally this meant work in a mercenary company, though with the death of the queen, it more recently involved plenty of guerrilla work. It was all good to Val. Anything was when it gave her the thrill.

Unfortunately with martial law cracking down, the work, and more importantly the pay, died off in a big way. With supplies becoming much harder to get a hold of, Val has taken to doing everything she can to keep up her habits. Underground fighting, construction, even weak-rear end delivery work. At some point it stopped mattering about getting a fix. She just needed to feel a rush again.

Mega-Stunt: A Catastrophic Cocktail of Chemicals: At this point, it's hard to tell how much of the liquid left in Val is blood and how much is an unholy amalgamation of every drug she's injected. The results are clear though, between those chemicals and her own cybernetic enhancements, she's become absolutely stronger than a normal human, but at a cost. Weapon:2 when unarmed.

Here at ExoCute, we are the industry leaders in providing ordnance across all categories to fashion-forward combatants across the globe - and with the official launch of our Aries line, beyond it. Our unique market position comes at a price. We are subject to market pressures from both the relatively rapid advance of weapon technologies and magics, as well as the extremely more rapid advance of fashion tastes, especially in the 15-21 female demographic.

While ExoCute prides itself on being fully ISO 18000 compliant, with all administrative, marketing, field, and line employees fully integrated into a Class 4 Bureaumantic matrix, to ensure we maintain our leading position on both military and fashion runways necessitates certain allowances be made within the R&D division.

Specifically, weaponeers of rating 3 and higher are not subject to standard ISO 18000 review or standards. In fact, in order to employ designers adept at creating products both aesthetically pleasing and combat ready, we have been forced to acquire talent that can be at best described as eccentric, and usually better described as highly unstable.

Ooooo these X1 Caniform Autonomous Defense Drones are super cute! (◕‿◕✿) Ferro-ceramic micro-serrated teeth in a pneumatic jaw capable of 125.2 kgs bit pressure, myomer accelerated psuedomusculature with a top speed of 130 km/hr in short bursts and sustained distance speeds of 90 km/hr, 10 year radio-isotope battery for power, a bound Class 3 daemon from a computational psuedo-dimension for control, and those pointy little ears! I just want to hug them and give them treats.

(∩⌣̀_⌣́) Actually, that's a good idea. Augmented Reality treats! Need to remember to suggest it to the marketing drones.

Had to shoot one of them with a railgun when it attacked one of the lab assistants, though. Still some bugs in the threat assessment protocols. Bit the poor man's arm right off! Bad puppy! (҂⌣̀_⌣́) No cookie for you.

Mmm... cookies.

Oh yeah, need to reinforce the lab containment shell. It was only a 7mm tungsten carbide round at Mach 4! Someone cut corners in Facilities~ <( ̄︶ ̄)>

quote:

Excerpt from ExoCute R&D Division Field Transfer Order
Recent reports from the Forecast Department suggest opportunities to expand our market share in Odrau will appear within the next two fiscal quarters. Executive Branch has decided that the best way to take advantage of this trend is to establish a remote R&D facility to analyze unique Muvian technology and output highly-targeted limited products on a just-in-time basis. We have selected the weaponeer to head the lab, who will be in your charge for the duration of the assignment. With the political situation in flux, site security is your highest priority.

Please be aware that even for a Rating 4 developer, Dr. Moriyuki is quite unpredictable. You will have your hands full. I suggest maintaining a supply of baked goods. On the positive side, she's worked out the bugs in the CADDs and completed the fabricator blue-prints, so you are authorized to augment your regular armaments with them for accelerated field testing.

quote:

Exceprt from ExoCute R&D Division Memo
The loss of the Odrau facility puts our plans for expansion into the region significantly behind schedule. Additionally, Strategic Analysis Department assesses that Royalist forces are not a viable counter-revolutionary force, and more importantly Financial Analysis Department confirms they are flat broke. The current regime displays little interest in expanding its arsenal under current conditions, and has in fact barred ExoCute employees from the islands.

However, there is a silver lining. Weaponeer Dr. Moriyuki managed to escape the destruction of the facility, and recently sent a communique to Headquarters. Dr. Moriyuki is not seeking extraction. Instead she insists that current conditions provide a "totally amazing" opportunity for field tests of "some super adorable weapon systems" and requested a rather excessive budget, reinforcement, and "a few tasty things from Sweet♥Bakery - just have them put the whole display case in a box."

After consulting all affected departments, it is our recommendation that the budget and reinforcement requests be denied, and Dr. Moriyuki instead be placed on unpaid sabbatical, but given a limited end user license to develop, produce, and test ordnance based on ExoCute designs. This would provide a sub-rosa way to accomplish both the original mission and maintain an ExoCute presence in Odrau.

Analysis indicates that as long as we honor the last stipulation by providing regular shipments of high quality baked goods and promise full legal protection in any resultant war crime or industrial espionage charges, Dr. Moriyuki's loyalty to the corporation can be maintained.

Stunts:
Owed More Favors Than A Bioware Protagonist: It doesn't matter the situation. If Casie can get some form of communication, be it phone, internet, sorcery, or carrier pigeon, she can roll Contacts to Overcome something. It might take a while, but she knows someone who can help.
"Heroine" With 1000 Faces: 1/scene, Casie may replace this stunt with another character's stunt by spending an FP and explaining some misadventure that gave her the stunt. It may not be a Mega Stunt.
International Woman of Mystery: You cannot discover Casie's real identity. Period. It isn't going to happen. Also, 1/scene she can ditch up to a moderate consequence by spending a FP and changing her name and appearance, though this also sheds any beneficial aspects on herself and forces her to remake embarrassing introduction with the other PCs. Also, obviously she can't do it if people are watching.
Absolutely Pathological: Casie is absolutely better at lying than any "normal" person. However, if Casie is somehow forced to admit the truth she takes at least a mild consequence, possibly more at GM's discretion.
My Hands Are Clean: Casie may use Contacts in place of Combat as long as someone on her side of the fight trusts her. This may be harder than it sounds.

Well, let's not get too long here, Madame President. The point is, what are we going to do about her?

No matter what she's calling herself now, we've got to find a way to stop her! She's stolen enough secret information from our databases to bring down the company 5 times over, and now she wants enough money to not release it to bring us down another additional time! We have to find her and-

If you have a problem... if no one else can help... if you're a bastard... Maybe you can hire Casie Jia, or whatever she's calling herself that day. She's a problem solver, of the particular variety of problem had by people who need something that someone else has. Usually that something is worth a lot of money.

Ok, she's a goddamn con artist, thief, and spy writ large. At this point, it's hard to tell if she remembers who she really is. The only sure thing about her is that she's definitely a woman. Everything else has changed multiple times this year alone. Some people think she's some sort of robot. Or maybe a shapeshifting bio-experiment. Or maybe she just dumps her exorbitant "finder's fees" into surgery. If anyone could trace it it would ruin the point, no?

The other consistent thing is her off the job personality, which is warm, friendly, and exactly as fake as the rest of her. Or so it seems, at least. People talking to her for business, or at least the most perceptive ones, often walk away with just the faintest impression she's still faking something. But she's never not done a job or tried to take payment for a job she couldn't finish, so she's got a lot of semi-loyal customers and agents. Most of them would try and kill her for the right price, but that price is getting pretty high. Mostly because people with higher prices tend to find you and kill you. Not her- never her. She doesn't do anything bloody personally. But if you want to swing at her, watch your back.

She's a lot of walking contradictions. That's what years of pretending to be other people gets you.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that AR's stress rules are poorly defined and confusing, so I'm gonna throw this house rule from my other recruit:

Take seven stress boxes and divide them all between your physical and mental stress tracks. You can have a maximum of five boxes for either track.

If you want to do it the usual way, it's cool, but this option's here.

Daphne Laird, the Black Queen

Daphne Laird has two faces. Well, far more than that, but two that matter. The first is what she wears in town, when handling a mark. The smooth talker, the smiling liar, whatever mask she needs to wear, that's the black Queen. Daphne doesn't really do disguises, not the way most criminals would. She takes pride in using the same face and hairstyle for practiclaly everything. A change in outfit, a change in accent, and the proper confidence - that's all a con artist needs. It's not perfect, of course.

But that's why Daphne Laird has two faces.

Daphne Laird, the Black Queen, is both con artist and pirate. She prefers to con her marks, but it doesn't always work. Sometimes even she gets recognized - that's the thrill of the con, after all. And when that happens...well, that's when the other skills come out. Daphne's a skilled fighter, and an excellent tactician. She takes charge easily, and always has a crew ready to handle things if she burns the con. Some might call themselves thieves. Daphne prefers pirate queen - after all, she has a ship, and she's done high-seas robberies...and besides, it has more style.

Style counts.

Concept: Pirate Queen of the Con
Banter: The Captain of your Heart
Intrigue: Who do you want me to be today?
Action: Know when to walk away, know when to run.
Omega: Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

Skills:

+5: Deceive
+4: Contacts, Provoke
+3: Empathy, Rapport, Will, Athletics, Notice
+2: Burglary, Stealth, Vehicles
+1: Combat, Physique

Stunts: (6 stunts)

Nice To See You Again: Once per scene, Daphne may declare that she's been here before under an assumed identity, and in what context. If she spends a fate point, there are no lingering problems because of this.
Tactical Genius: +2 to create advantage with Rapport when advising others.
The Personal Touch: +2 to Burglary when picking pockets or planting goods on people
I Know what You Want: +2 to create advantage with Empathy when finding someone's hidden fears or desires
Suddenly, Pirates: When you use Athletics to defend against an attack and succeed with style, sacrifice your next action to immediately place the aspect Pirate Backup, with two free invocations.
Pirate Queen: Use Provoke in place of Combat to attack physically when you've had time to dramatically explain or brag about how in control of the situation you are.

Vivian had her body borrowed by the great race of Yith, for their inscrutable purposes, at a young age. She was easy to keep occupied while waiting for her body back until she learned about the inevitable destruction from the flying polyps. The resignation of the Yith incensed Vivian and she would get into a heated debate over the inevitability of death with any schmuck without the sense to keep sliding along. She theorized that since she did not perceive later events she would not instinctively follow what was laid out. The Yith were not about to let her throw on of their bodies away against the polyps testing a crackpot theory. However the theory was novel enough they were going to have one of their researchers look into it, so they told her to shut her up. Vivian only realized later that the Yith using her body was said researcher and exhaustively studied the subject to rest any future debates. Surrounded by such a strained concept of the passage of time Vivian only realized she was with the Yith for over a decade after the exchange was over.
Suddenly Vivian was living on her own with a packed study, a job she didn't know how to do, and no education. She fell into unscrupulous lines of work almost immediately. Her experiences had made Vivian uniquely qualified for mercenary work. The Yith spending so much time in her body left an imprint on her. An insatiable curiosity causes Vivian to react with excited curiosity when most others would be terrified. The occult knowledge learned was retained through vague instinct allow for speedy if imprecise invocations. And her time with the Yith encouraged an impatience and desire for action. Holding any sort of work for a while has been challenging for her. She is still readjusting to human faction expressions, her smile coming off as any flavor of creepy at any time. She'll cheerfully remark how eating is so much easier now that her mouth is so close to her eyes again. Claim to remember things that hadn't happened yet. And that's before even considering the fact that no one wants to be caught with the sorceress who can't remember getting registered.
Petty morale concerns only come up after the hiring though. Most employers are eager to hire a gun so willing to head into the thick of it. After all they have to survive to collect on the contract.

Ikishima Kazaho a.k.a The Ikishima Sisters

Once upon there were two sisters, Born to the same mother but with different fathers. Favoritism was established early on and Kazaho's childhood since that point became an unhappy one. Her mother was emotionally abusive, among other things. Her relationship with her younger sister became heavily strained due to the fact that as far as her mother was concerned Kazaho's purpose in life was to ensure her sisters success. Before that time the two sisters were inseparable and Kazaho was idolized by her younger sibling. Kazaho treasures these memories greatly and wishes to return to the way it was with her sister. A wish she is willing to do anything to accomplish ANYTHING. Becoming a mahou-shoujo was more than a young girls dream, it was Kazaho's only way of remaining with her family.

Officially only the younger of the Ikishima sisters made it into the JSDF's Mahou Shoujo program. The records state that Kazaho was quietly failed based on her psychological evaluations and feedback from the marketing department (rage issues, sister complexes and glasgow smiles are not ideal qualities for an idol) . Unofficially the JSDF found a purpose for Kazaho as a member of Team Seiroukai, one of many groups trained in undertaking morally/ethically unpleasant jobs and other "JSDF wet work". While her sister fought monsters, appeared in variety shows and recorded pop songs Kazaho undertook targeted killings, false flag operations, and especially hunting down AWOL majokko often with extreme prejudice. Can't have one of the JSDF's investments running off after all.

As with most magical girl units, her groups handler was heavily involved in their development . Unlike other groups however the common methods of ensuring compliance in magical girl teams were worthless. Generally handlers string the wet work teams along with promises of transfers into an official squad. The high risk of the assignments and intergroup conflict ensures the emptiness of such promises. Being in charge of a group comprised of violent unpredictable individuals is far from the ideal posting, however Team Seiroukai's handler was more ambitious then most of her peers and saw a lucrative business opportunity. Exploitation of Team Seiroukai's more violence impulses ensured a healthy flow of "under the table" jobs. JSDF salaries don't compare to what a crime syndicate or cult will offer to in return for having a handler of magical girls on their payroll. As long as the group produced results and suffered limited casualties, the higher ups didn't ask many questions. Unfortunately this did not last long as the strain from frequent jobs took its toll on the team. Exhausted and overworked the team quickly became sloppy.

It was not long before the higher ups became aware of Team Seiroukai's "extra-curricular activities" and saw them as a liability. A kill order was ordered on the team. The official mission briefing called for the elimination of a group of cultists operating out of Aokigahara. In reality command had lured Team Seiroukai to the area under the false pretense of a joint-training exercise. If everything went as planned, Team Seiroukai would be eliminated in one sweep.

As far as Kazaho's sister was aware, Kazaho was happily sitting behind a desk at a remote JSDF base performing administrative duties for the rest of her days. She never expected to see her sister again. Recognizing Kazaho's face in the scope lead to a brief moment of hesitation that allowed what few remained of Team Seiroukai to retreat and mount a counter attack. What was intended to be a quick operation turned into a dog fight lasting nearly an hour. As the sole survivor moved from body to body checking vitals on deceased comrades and delivering coup de graces Kazaho went over the shootout in her head. One thing stuck out as odd, What did that girl scream out before I emptied my magazine into her. The last body answered her question, bleeding out at her feet was her younger sister. Kazaho's wish was granted that day, she had reunited with her sister.

Months later an individual matching Kazaho's description is spotted in Odrau, sporting a grotesque accessory. What's left of her younger sister grows out of Kazaho's upper back, forcibly attached by some godless magic. One can only imagine the unholy bargains Kazaho made to achieve her wish. It clearly obvious that Kazaho keeps up a facade of joy in regards to her sisters condition. Having a grotesque mockery of her sister attached to her was not what she had hoped in terms of getting her sister back. Adding insult to injury Kazaho's magical wand no longer bonds with her due to her body's joint-custody. Any negative effect this has had on her combat skills has yet to be seen as her time with Team Seiroukai gave her alternatives. Off the clock Typically Kazaho suppresses her sister with magic lulling it into a tranquil sleep-like state until the situation calls for her. Those who have seen when the younger sister is awake are either six feet under or unwilling to talk about it. She does come well recommended however if you can stomach her eccentrics.
