There's a lot of stuff I used to listen to that is flat out embarrassingly bad. 1990s Fear Factory is still great. Anything after that, I really can't say much about.

Lamb of God are the new Pantera in the way that matters most. If I witness five fat racist pieces of whitetrash abusing an Indian guy on a train loudly and relentlessly for being foreign late at night, they used to wear all be wearing Pantera shirts. Now they're all wearing Lamb of God shirts.

I'm glad we have this "this band belongs to this type of lovely people" bullshit a lot less over here in Europe. Which probably also explains (partly) why over here we got much diverser metalfestivals (speaking about the bigger, more days covering ones) then in the U.S. in which lots of metal festivals seems oftenly to be concentrated on a typical subgenre. Or am I wrong?

Or am I wrong? Metal festivals here seem to be plenty diverse and lengthy. We just don't get as many. Maryland Deathfest is definitely the most prominent and it covers the whole of Memorial Day Weekend with bands from pretty much every subgenre.

Speaking of live shows, I guess it's time I share my project I've been working on. I hope you don't mind a little shameless self-promotion real quick. I put together a website for metal tour dates in the US and Canada - www.metaltours.us. I got tired of searching through all sorts of bullshit to find shows coming by me so I made this site. There's no reviews, interviews, top 10 lists, or any of that - just metal tour dates. It auto-publishes the feed to the facebook site and the twitter feed, and I've got a mailing list you can sign up for that I'll use to send out weekly/monthly updates. Anyways, this page just started off as a personal project of mine that's sort of taken off (hit 666 likes 2 days ago on the fb page, almost at 800 now, and I submitted the link to reddit/r/metal last night and it's getting a lot of good feedback, so I wanted to share with you goons. Right now it's just one guy (me) doing the updates whenever I find them, but I'm hoping this thing can get even bigger and become the go-to place for this stuff. Hope you guys like it!

Guy I work with today was bitching about some guy he had to put up with that was a real asshat. Said this guy played guitar and reminded him of a lamer Ted Nugent. Apparently he would drag everything back to politics and was a huge Ron/Rand Paul fan so everything went eye-rolling real quick. He couldn't remember the guy's name though, only that he was supposedly some metal guy. Acted offended that someone who wasn't into heavy metal at all didn't know him or immediately kiss his rings or whatever. I pulled up a picture of Jon Schaffer and get short pause and a "I can't believe you actually knew who this guy was."

I found Fu Xi from a Youtube search's recommended videos, and I'm digging it. I'm actually kind of hearing a bit of Drudkh and Alcest in their sound (mixing the same folk/doom/black elements). I can't say I've heard much Chinese metal, and now I'm curious what else I've been missing (and what other countries not famous for metal have some kickass bands).
