I think so. Jenny is awesome throughout. Obviously Bryan Hitch's art from Authority blows anything in Stormwatch away, but the stories are still solid.

After reading Authority, I really recommend the two Secret History trades (Jenny & Jack H).

1. Don't be dissing what Tom Raney did on Stormwatch.

2. Hitch drew a fair chunk of Stormwatch vol.2 anyways.

1. I don't hate Raney at all! I just liked Hitch's work more.

2. I had honestly forgotten he had worked on the back end of Stormwatch, it's been so long since I've read it. :negative:

Free to roam the heavens in man's noble quest to investigate the weirdness of the universe!

Note that the hardcover Stormwatch collections don't include an issue of WildCATS where, uh, let's just say "poo poo went down," which may make the issue following it really, really confusing and seems like it comes out of nowhere. It's really a shame.

It's the Wildcats/Aliens one-shot. They didn't secure the licensing for the reprint because it would have doubled the cost of the book.

There is the Planetary/Authority one-shot, where the teams work together to stop a common threat, but don't actually ever meet on-page. We also learn Something Interesting regarding Snow and Jenny Sparks, leader of the Authority. It takes place sometime during the first third of Planetary (say around #6-10?--a few weeks have passed since the Doc Brass issue), and is a fun read.

There are also references to The High, a Superman-type character the Jenny et al dealt with, but that occured at the end of Ellis' Stormwatch, just prior to Authority kicking off.
I think that's it.

There is an Ellis Authority hardcover containing his 12 issues, yes. There is a second HC containing the subsequent Millar run as well.

So this and this? And if I wanted to this and this?

-Go for it. Do keep in mind, that as said above, the key Wildcats/Aliens one-shot is missing from the second Stormwatch book. I would absolutely track a cheap copy down and read it between #10 and #11. (or find the original trades, it's collected in those)

I'm pretty sure I still have the original trades of Ellis' Stormwatch with that issue that I'm willing to part with, btw. I'll have to double check when I get home...

EDIT: Yeah, obi_ant, I have these five trades if you want them. Includes WildCATS/Aliens. Not hardcovers, though.

Stormwatch was great, #37-50 was the loving best super book on the stand at the time. The second volume never really captured that feeling and then the Authority went to a whole different level. And the the WSU became dependent on the work Ellis did from that point on and everyone kept trying to duplicate that initial "specialness."

I really enjoyed reading the Stormwatch-Authority-Planetary. Kinda goes from 90's superhero (but good) to a mindbending, epic scope examination of comics, pulps and movies.

BTW.

I am selling some books over on eBay. Some Usagi and a Batman LotDK custom hardcover.

One of my local comic shops is having its 32nd Anniversary sale this weekend, in which you can buy any TPB or hardcover and get a second one for 32 cents.

I think I'm going to treat myself to Superior Foes of Spider-Man Vol. 3 and Soule's She-Hulk Vol. 1.

With Absolute Inc out, it would be hard for me not to hop on the train to overpriced hardcover town and get it and another one for essentially half off. Speaking of, I assume Absolute Inc is a solid reproduction?

I guess nobody is really clamoring for it and with his fall from grace at Marvel they don't have any reason to push his work anymore. I'm pretty shocked that the Hawkeye Omnibus is hitting in three weeks.

Figured I'd check the price on that out of curiosity. Remember when buying OSHCs and Omnibuses was actually a good deal? 24 issues for $100 MSRP. At least it's oversized.

Edit: Also, I know there's a delay between LCS and bookstores/Amazon, but holy poo poo, Amazon says June.

What's up with that?

I'm reading the back matter in Casanova: Gula and he wrote, "I like comics. I like superhero comics. It's all a joy to do." in reference to working for Marvel and doing indie on the side (this would have been around 2011 during the Icon reprints). Then there's an annotation from this year that says, "It was, until it wasn't, and then it was time for a break." Which was the first time I really noticed that he's not doing all that much for Marvel anymore.

These Casanova hardcovers are amazing for collecting all the back matter alone.

I never bothered to try catching up on Hawkeye with all the production problems, but I think I might just buy issues #21 and 22 since those same production delays now mean the rest of the series will be up on Marvel Unlimited in a month or two.

Kinda lame it is coming out so much later than the omni. I like the format of the OSHC more than the omnibus as they are a easier to lug around and read and from what I have seen the material will probably be the same.

Image seems to be doing a pretty good job of putting out popular books in awesome hardcovers in a timely manner (though still waiting on a deluxe Prophet damnit) , kinda wish the other companies would follow suit. Its been two years since the last B.P.R.D. came out for christ sake.

Yeah. The 1946-48 is out in June it looks like. Maybe Hell on Earth will follow in quick succession. Looks like the Plague of Frogs books were released about 8 months apart. They have enough for three or four more books of Hell on Earth right now.

Neither did my local shop. Technically, "Prophet" is over. There's a five issue mini series coming out [sometime] to wrap it up, but it's been like 8 months since anything has come from them.
