So just a shot in the dark here since I haven't dealt with this crap before. Rings shot if I'm getting oil coming out the exhaust via blow by? The oil is higher than it needs to be but this is a lot of oil coming out after running for 10-15 seconds.

Next weekend is Valentines day, ask her out.

Exhaust manifold studs. Depending on the head the upper stud holes actually open up into the valve train, lots of people w/ 2002/E21's have had issues with oil leaking around the #1 stud. Pull studs, clean threads, replace + loctite.

I used to watch the UK Robot Wars on PBS. You know how when something would go wrong, they'd all be quite cheerful "Ah well we'll soon put it right"? I expect this revival will treat those situations as an opportunity to stick people in a closet with a camera and make them bitch about their teammates, because that's modern reality TV.

Holy poo poo I did not know this. This is the 2.0L head and I'm currently running 5 instead of 8 exhaust studs...that might have something to do with it. Think the ones I'm missing are top on 2/4 and bottom on 4. Knew I should have ordered a set of those. Will have to see if I can get the old studs free from the old exhaust manifold then remove/clean/loctite all of them.

What would be the recommended loctite for this?

My friends and I are starting a Youtube channel talking about some of the cool and interesting cars around our country and we have some pretty awesome roads close to our city so we figured we'd give it a go.

It's probably going to end up closer to Harry's Garage in style than Chris Harris, mainly owing to me not wanting to huge skids on open public roads and also because I'm hoping people might one day trust us enough to lend us their interesting cars to play with.

I'm just going to use my S5 to take some footage at the local Concourse meeting tomorrow but the field of view sucks and glare tolerance is just as bad. The plan is to get some GoPros at some point and we've got access to a drone as well.

So yea, I'm going to make terrible YouTube videos and try and pretend I know what I'm talking about. If anyone has any tips I'd love to hear them.

Verizon is selling off all of their wireline operations in California, Texas, and Florida (including FiOS)..... to Frontier. The same company I used to work for, where I caught a ton of cramming going on at least one call a day. The same company that still refuses to allow over 35mbit on the FiOS lines they bought nearly a decade ago, even though they have the equipment and backbone to handle better speeds. The same company where I was expected to sell SOMETHING to at least 10% of my calls just to keep my job. The same company that would have daily outages in massive parts of their territory.

This can only end well.

My wife mentioned that this morning, and I actually thought of you at the mention of Frontier. I was sure I was wrong that Frontier was the poo poo company you worked at, because how could a company as crappy as they possibly buy up all of Verizon's ISP business, but, welp.

Did anyone happen to catch that the FCC changed the definition of "broadband"? Now I don't have broadband (only 20 Mbit. I could pay for more, but I don't want to. Welp, got home, found out the living room TV has audio, but no video. Swapped the cables to a different input on the TV, still showing "NO SIGNAL" but still has audio (it's an CRT HDTV, so it runs 1080p via component cables). Swapped to RCA, still no video. Swapped to coax, got a very very bad picture. Tried it on another TV, same poo poo.

Called Verizon, cue 45 minutes of "troubleshooting" that I kept repeating "sir, I've already tried that" over and over. I finally convinced him to try sending a reset command to the box. I got a brief flicker on the TV, then audio again. Asked him to send a hard reset command. Box is now totally dead, except for the power and MoCA link lights.

(ignore the cables, I tried another set of cables before calling, and it's in a ~500 pound entertainment center - before you add the weight of the TV - getting behind it is a bitch even with the sliders)

The CSR/"tech" couldn't wrap his head around the fact that we have an HDTV that doesn't have HDMI - and kept insisting CRT TVs aren't HD (it's a ~300 pound 36" 1080P Panasonic from 2001). You can always tell when you're talking to an outsourced call center with them; I knew the box was bad, I called them just to ask them to ship a replacement and outline what I'd already done (when I reach their in-house call centers, they stop dead in their tracks when I name what I've done and agree "yup, poo poo's hosed, I'm shipping you a new set top box" instead of 45 minutes of jerking off).

This makes box ... #3 or #4, in less than a year. gently caress this client/server VMS poo poo they rolled out, I never had a single issue with the old Motorola boxes.

Darchangel posted:

I have two friends who are engineers at Verizon, both on FiOS. One is a network engineer, one writes code for their set top boxes (... don't blame her for the horrific VMS setup they've rolled out, she had nothing to do with that pile of steaming poo poo - also my living room set top box just crapped out for the 3rd or 4th time, so no TV out there until they ship yet another box). I talk to the coder frequently (I've known her about 17 years), she said the FCC changes will be forcing a lot of changes. It remains to be seen how it'll work out, but we're both thinking it'll mostly be good for the consumer. I have mixed feelings on regulation, but so many ISPs promise X speed and deliver 1/10th of it, then claim "oh we claim UP TO X speed, sorry, too bad, and also you can't downgrade your speed package without paying an ETF even though we can't even deliver the speed you're trying to downgrade to" *cough Frontier cough*

Frontier is buying up territory just to expand their footprint; they've always been the underdog. They could be a really successful company if they revamped their tech support and sales departments, and spent more than $5 a day on their infrastructure, but all they care about is stockholder profit at any expense. They absolutely need to fire everyone in both tech and sales and start from scratch.

I would think just a regular heat pump (refrigerant based, i.e. combo air conditioner/heat pump outside unit, which is essentially an a/c with a reversing valve) coupled with either an electric, propane, or natural gas backup furnace would be the cheapest option. Depends on the cost of various energy sources, but heat pumps tend to be more efficient than a normal furnace until outside temp drops below freezing, in which case the backup furnace takes over.

The ROI on a ground source one may be 5 years or 50 years, depending on the cost of energy. (hint: it won't be 5 years at that price)
