Ive been on a early 90's westcoast kick lately and came across this gem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPkpJels9Qc

I miss how unapologetically black rap used to be. If they tried this today it would feature G-Eazy and Lil Debbie. For those that don't know their is a very interesting story behind this album. A producer went to a gang neighborhood and got the bloods&crips to declare a truce and make an album together. One side was crips, the other was bloods. The crip side was poo poo, but the blood side is legit one of the best west coast rap albums of all time. I wish we had a west coast artist as big as Kendrick, but not such a pussy who could make music like this.

Re: earlier convo about hashtag rap I highly doubt Kanye was the first to use this style but iirc he did dub it "hashtag rapping" and therefore popularized it

I saw Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic last night and they were fantastic. Played for an hour and 45 with a little break for DJ Abilities(!) to show off, and they did a good mix of Hail Mary Mallon stuff, Aesop solo songs and even a couple of Rob Sonic's songs. It was almost as fun as Run the Jewels, with a very similar vibe.

I don't think it is a good way to appreciate hiphop and its culture by using an intimate moment between 2 legends to ridicule a dead guy's legacy. Didn't expect someone that vocally champions minorities to twist a jail house letter, a tradition in the greater black culture from MLK and on, into a joke.

Not true, and none of those dudes I posted are from Hunters Point. And straight outta hunters point is from the early 2000s, not the early 90s. :colbert:
