We know too much about where Charlie and Dee have been to want to see them together. It's like seeing Artemis and Cricket get it on. They plumbed that well in the pregnancy storyline also, with them trying to figure out who the father is and briefly thinking Dennis is the dad.

FIRST TIME posted:I think if the gang actually did split up for some reason that Charlie is the only one that would do OK. Outside of his fixation with the waitress (which we haven't really seen in a while), he's the least delusional of the group. He'd find some crappy job and live in his crappy apartment and he'd be OK with it. We last saw the Waitress in The Gang Group Dates I think. But we generally only see her and Cricket once a season, so we likely won't get any more MEE this season.

The Dennis System posted:This was a good episode, but when the episode first started and they were making meta jokes about how the gang has gotten more and more crazy and less realistic over the years, and then they started talking about how they were going to leave the gang and get less crazy and become more normal, I started to get excited at the idea that when everyone left the gang their behavior would make a real radical change and that this episode might be the start of a two or three episode run where everyone started to act like real, normal people and not absurd in any way. This was a completely crazy thing for me to think, because of course they wouldn't do that, for a million different reasons, not the least of which is that if they did act like normal people, the show wouldn't even be a comedy anymore. But still, as crazy as that idea was, it excited me. And I think the reason it excited me is because, as good as the show still is, I've been watching the same characters do the same basic stuff for years and years, and no matter how good it is, the characters just can't have the same impact they used to have, and the idea of these characters and the tone of the show becoming drastically different was, at least in some part of my mind, something refreshing and new and exciting. And even though something like that would never work, I still felt a little depressed that everything went back to the way it was at the end of the episode. When the episode started I felt as if a cage that was around my mind had been lifted, and I got a sense of true freedom that I'd never even knew existed before, and when the episode ended, I felt like the cage had snapped back into place. That all comes off as way too dramatic, I still like the show a lot and will keep watching it, but I really did have those bizarre feelings. ok, so couple things: 1. yes, it came off WAY too dramatic and borderline crazy 2. paragraphs. use them. your wall of text + your run on sentences + your creepy undertone (see #1) made that all kinda suck 3. i more or less agree with you. a 3 episode arc before going back to status quo could have been cool

That episode was amazing. I'm wondering what they're going to do with Dennis because the increased instability is amazing and while I think the rest of the gang can "reset" it really seems like Dennis is genuinely close to snapping and he knows it. The other critical question is will we see the mesh tank top and the duster together in their un-burnable glory?

Dennis and Dee both, I think. They both have actual plans/goals. Dee still thinks she'll "make it" somehow. Making it as an actress, comedian, entertainer, or even married. As these possibilities continue fading she has another phase coming up. Dennis still thinks he's not yet peaked and doesn't realize he's been on a downward slope for years now. As soon as some of those realities start settling in (wrinkles, gray hairs, inability to pick up girls of his choice), he's going full on serial killer. Mac and Charlie can literally do what they do every day for the rest of their lives and die just as miserably happy as they are today. Frank has no arc. He's just having fun. His entire run here has been his retirement.

I think the CharDee hookup is definitely gonna have a payoff, I think Charlie and Dee are going to keep being a little weird in the next few episodes and the gang is going to find out about it, possibly even in the next episode exactly as it was with Dennis' divorce.

Dee gonna get preggers. They will attempt to abort the baby but it will fail. Then in the series finale, it will fall through a time warp and go back in time 70 years and end up being Frank.

I agree that it would have been cool to see this over a 2-3 episode story arc, but we did get a condensed arc in this episode - they attempted to act normal and found that they simply can't and need each other to function. Also the characters haven't exactly been static. Even though it's due to change in tone and writing more than as intentional character arcs, we've seen them go from relatively normal people to completely batshit insane.

I really enjoyed seeing Charlie and Dee together, they handle each other's flaws with some light-hearted criticism; I think one of the better scenes in the episode was just Dee and Charlie at the bar, talking before Dennis storms in and starts yelling, because he views everyone else in the gang as trash beneath him and that's what seems to be the source of negative energy in the group. You can actually see Dee's happy, calm demeanor fade in the background as they start cracking jokes about her.

I think Dennis and Mac are staying there because of their house fire. At least that was the case in the last episode when they needed her out of the house so they could wank to creampie videos in peace.
