Oh, David...
Tonight's YOB setlist:

Ball Of Molten Lead
Atma
Marrow

Mike was using a Reeves head, and his tone sounded great, but it was Aaron's bass rig that really impressed me. He was plugged into two tube heads, one a Fender, one that maybe looked like a Marshall, and then running those into a Bergantino NV215 and NV610. MASSIVE sound.

I had never listened to Enslaved once before tonight, and had to bail after a few songs, but I liked what I heard. I'll definitely check out some of their recordings.

YOB are so great live and I can't wait until they come back to the UK. I think going to their show might have been better than seeing Sleep.

This is cool, thanks!

My girlfriend wants to go to MD Deathfest this year. In theory I want to go but the idea of seeing metal bands outdoors during the day is super unappealing. I assume that like most festivals there will be a bunch of off venue independent shows in clubs and such around the city? Or is that just a hippy band thing?

MDF has shows going on more or less concurrently at 3 different venues. One of those is Edison Lot, which is, as you might guess, a parking lot. The other two are clubs. There are also shows at smaller clubs with smaller/local bands as well. That's how it worked last year, anyway.

That said, the Edison Lot setup is pretty nice. It's under a big overpass, so there's a large shaded area where they plop down a bunch of picnic benches for people to hang out and cool down, and the sound is actually still really good from there. My friend and I hung out there during Bongripper and a couple of other bands, which is probably shameful to admit in this thread, but were pretty gassed and needed a break. They still sounded phenomenal.

Definitely look up which bands are playing where on the MDF site. They tend to roughly group the bands at each venue according to sub-genre (grindcore bands here, doom bands there) and day, so it's possible all the bands you want to see are playing outside at Edison Lot. Last year most of the big-name bands (At the Gates, Candlemass, My Dying Bride, Dark Angel, Agalloch) played outside.

Torche is awesome and I had the good fortune to catch them twice in January :c00l: Kinda awesome to see them open for Clutch and then a few weeks later open for Municpal Waste. Pretty different crowds.

ASG tomorrow night, pretty stoked.

come on, it's not that bad. you just don't have a generic doom style. more personality in vox is alright, every band doesn't have to have generic genre vocals.

Thanks, buds. Recording that album was such a pain in the rear end that I couldn't listen to the result for years, so I'm glad at least one person enjoyed it.

Hashteroid's first EP will be released pretty soon, and y'all will probably dig it, even though it's a big departure from HUGENELK. Alex's vocals sound a lot better in a punk rock/thrash metal context.
