given enough time, any darknet market will get busted, and keeping the site online makes it possible someone will find an exploit in your site that gives up your true ip or some other bit of info that makes it easier to prosecute you. so i can see the fear of getting prosecuted for running an international market for selling drugs would lead one to want to stop running said market so they get most of the money and none of the jailtime.

of course, the alternative seems to be "what if the government just left silk road alone?" at which point you might as well just legalize drugs and then why would anyone use a silk road derivative when you could go to a real store where you can call the cops if the guy cheats you?

it seems there is a crisis of trust in the drug market built around a trustless currency. maybe people need to start sending money to the void to show they are honest.
