I've been trying to keep play journals of my characters to work on pacing. The Glittering caves taught me patience and it helps that I stopped mousing for movement. I was most put to the test in the Maze encountering some rare rogue that would put me to sleep and mind gently caress me while I wasn't able to do anything, but I managed that, mainly because I could retreat, regroup and get back at him. The Old Forest was awesome because I could control the terrain and even when moving through the enemy zoos I never had to face more than one enemy at a time. The thing about Sandworm Lair is that there is no retreat and so when face to face with a tough enemy I no other back up plan. I have a phase door rune but maybe I should take a more general teleport infusion?

I almost always like to run a teleport rune, preferably one with no scaling and 20 range so I have a pretty good idea where it'll put me relative to where I am. Minimizing the RNG on it as much as possible makes it a reasonably reliable escape!

Note to self: Next time the bi-weekly "NERF ARCHMAGES" discussion comes up, quote a bunch out of the last two pages. Every time I say "They're high power/hard to master, that's fine in a game with classes." I tend to get answers along the lines of "They're not hard, just do X!", X always being something that can get you killed to overuse/use in the wrong situation. It's depressing.

So the Sandworm Queen was pretty easy all things considered and now I need to go to Daikara (I'm using the guide offered in the OP). I have no real cold or lightning protection and only the most basic protection from confusion. I have a lot of gold so what's a good shop to deck myself up?

Ok quick question while my game is running. I found the hidden trap door and I'm a level 21 PM mage. Am I able to do this/clear this at my current level? It's the Trapped quest. EDIT: PS I beat that demon woman at her most powerful. She missed both her meteors strikes kinda very badly and did little else aside from chasing me around a circular area and being blasted. EDIT EDIT: Also where the HELL is the hidden compound supposed to spawn? I remember finding it one game and now I can't find it for the life of me. Well Daikara killed me good. I was doing alright but then I got caught in open terrain too many enemies and got surrounded. It's a bit upsetting but I think I did alright considering I had never played the game. Bulwark's fun if repetitive. I'm trying out a summoner this time around. I'll see how it goes. I also unlocked Wyrmic, Brawler, and Cursed, all three that seem really fun. I have the archmage as well but I don't think I'll be able to handle that just now.

Getting to Daikara on your first run is certainly fine, even though ToME has a reputation as one of the "easier" roguelikes it's not just a stroll to the end either.

Got my first nightmare win, with a summoner http://te4.org/characters/112140/tome/e8ca7b93-b62f-4346-85d7-d1f5a62ad4bf not even close to clean. Slime tunnels and high peak had a lot of running from bosses to get the stairs. My dmg output was awful and the whole game consisted of summon things around corners and running away if anything with a purple border could see me. Despite rescuing Melinda from the crypt, I didn't do the rest of the quest to get the nightmare version of the achievement.

It's my first time going to the Lake of Nur. I can't find any water breathing, is it alright to do it without? How many cat points should I put in buying inscriptions as well? And this is my guy so far. http://te4.org/characters/155206/tome/2ae02519-e003-4ed8-a7e5-6378d6a413f1

paradox mages kind of just naturally get everythging that you would want a inscription for aside from a mental clear and a heroism so you should be ok with just 3 i think. please note that im terrible at this game and a idiot

So with archers do you want aim, rapid shot or neither? I could see a lot of on hit procs make rapid shot pretty appealing but I don't know.

iirc rapid shot ends up being more damage endgame but aim is insanely good early.

My firewall at work blocks me out of steam but I can still load TOME. I play different characters and have cloud sync turned off at work. If I get to lvl 20 and get the fortress with the storage will I see that on my game on my home PC? When I get it do I need to kill out all my work saves, cloud sync once to make sure I see the unlock, and then start new characters? If I get in before 8 I can get steam online and cloud sync the game if needed.

And this is my guy so far. You don't need it, there will be bubbles you can breathe inside just watch your air meter. It's definitely a less pain in the rear end if you can find water breathing though, but that's fairly random. There is a dungeon later in the game that does require water breathing, but it's optional.
