Penny Dreadful is pulpy trash on its face but its well done. Eva Green is amazing in it and Timothy Dalton chews the scenery like crazy. The mood is great, the look of it is perfect, and if the idea of mashing together Victorian horror stories appeals to you on paper it should deliver. Go in with reasonable expectations. Its not a great story, its not great writing, but its fun, creepy, sometimes genuinely get under your skin horror entertainment. Its actually one of the few horror TV shows I've ever seen that I thought really worked for the genre.

I don't watch any of those shows. Most of them I don't watch because they have pretty bad names.

Eva Green really should have won an Emmy for her role in that series, every couple episodes she had absolutely amazing scenes and Closer Than Sisters was fantastic. If you weren't captivated by her performance in the second episode Seance then I don't know what to say.

The Americans is so grim and fantastic. It sucks that nobody watches it but I think FX already committed to at least 2 more seasons. It's definitely the kind of show that could blow up on Netflix/Amazon.

That along with Vikings, Black Sails, Justified, and Better Call Saul are must see tv for me. I didn't realize The Americans was getting low ratings, thats too bad. It's one of the best shows FX has had in a while. And FX is one of my favorite networks.

I'm bored with Justified this season. I know it's the final season but it feels like it's going nowhere but I haven't seen the latest episode yet. Kind of want to quit after Choo Choo went down.

The Musketeers is pretty much the 2000's Robin Hood but in France. Basically if you like BBC adventure shows it will work for you. Penny Dreadful is the best scenery chewing show on TV

I stopped watching Legends after two episodes because they kept saying "legends" all the goddamn time and it really ruined it for me. I might have been able to put up with it if it was a well known undercover term but it just sounded so stupid.

JohnSherman posted:Foreign correspondents existed —and continue to exist— because they are knowledgeable about the region, know the local language, and have sources in the area that they can tap. That is what makes correspondents useful, not their willingness to stand next to a rebel on the frontline. The problem is that most news cable news agencies don't really have foreign correspondents outside of places like London or Moscow, at least in the U.S. They usually just use local feeds if some breaking news happens. Cable news networks do have some international reporters that travel around the world, but that doesn't make them particularly knowledgeable about what they're reporting. There are basically three areas of coverage. NYC/Washington, the rest of America, and everything outside of America. The foreign correspondents cover everything outside of America, and get shuttled around to wherever there is a news story. As a general rule, I doubt the reporter doing a story in Mumbai on Friday, then covering Caracas on Wednesday is overly familiar with either Indian or Venezualan politics. thrakkorzog fucked around with this message at 11:20 on Mar 28, 2015 |

Legends lives and dies with Sean Bean. I love the guy, so the show is fine. If it was anyone else, I wouldn't be watching, especially the way they treat Ali Larter.

As a fellow Lartard, I also consider Ali Larter's well being one of my utmost concerns.

It wasn't about her, specifically. I didn't care for how they used her character in the show. Someone else verbalized it much better than I ever could in the Legends thread.

Is it that her role is still horrendously demeaning window dressing? Because that was outrageous in the pilot. They absolutely destroyed the plot just so they could have her do some elbow dancing for sexy money.

Instead of low budget effects you've got way too god damned many text bubbles, and this is really just a weaker version of the comic anyway. Episode 4 was pretty good, episode 5 sucked outside of Zora. I'm keeping up with the show, and honestly the biggest part of what keeps me watching is seeing all the poor decisions and shoddy effects that are used in the production.

-Blackadder- posted:Anyone watch any of the following: Crossbones Bad, real bad. Not even Malkovich chewing every piece of scenery available could save this one. Agent Carter Started out good and had promise, but squandered it all and went out with a sputter and a hook for a second season. The Librarians I liked Leverage and I liked the Librarian TV movies, but I had to force myself to get through this one. Terrible acting and the leads have pretty much no chemistry. Some people seemed to like it and want to see a second season for some reason, so YMMV. Defiance This is/was the one on Syfy with the video game tie-in, right? I only watched the first couple of episodes and didn't feel like I needed to see any more.

I was pretty impressed in how it addressed complaints about the first season in its lack of representation from other aspects of the LGBT community and the character assassination of one of its leads, this season has just been fantastic. It gets a special to wrap up too, though I thought it did a decent job in the finale with how it left the characters at largely optimistic points in their life. Oh poo poo, drat it, it was my favorite narrative show HBO is currently airing (until Silicon Valley starts up again). The first two seasons are on the HBO GO, I def recommend trying them out. EDIT: Oh, and BlackAdder, the list you posted last page is uniformly poo poo. There's a bunch of actually great TV out there, you managed to catch up on The Last Man on Earth? Better Call Saul? Bob's Burgers? Even New Girl is worth a spin this season. Shageletic fucked around with this message at 00:47 on Mar 29, 2015 |

Yes the show is kinda cheesy, the acting and the dialogue and the effects aren't the best, but it's fun to watch and episode four is genuinely a great episode of tv,. But I was more commenting on your annoyance of the word Legends appearing in the show Legends. Powers happens in a world where some people have powers, they call these people Powers. The main character work in a division of the police called the Powers division. I actually wish there were more ways for them to be using the word. Powers.

Defiance is pretty good and has only gotten better as it has gone on. It is what it is, in that it's at first glance (and not entirely unlike) that sort of 90s scifi with forehead aliens, but if you give it a chance, the alien races are pretty well conceived, have a rich and interesting culture, and the serial plot is surprisingly good, with moments of genuine brilliance. But you have to want a scifi-rear end scifi show in your life, which should go without saying, but these days with superhero everything being mainstream it seems like it doesn't.

I concur concerning Defiance. It's a pretty decent scifi show, and the seasons are relatively short so there isn't much fluff.
