Do these books ever stop with the jumping around to a different person for every single chapter thing? I'm still on the first books near the beginning but holy poo poo is it annoying as gently caress to read a chapter about Arya and then bam it's Eddard's chapter and I don't even know what time period this chapter takes place in because there's no god drat sense of time passing.

It stays like this though the breadth of characters expands. It's pretty good because it gives you a sense of the whole world, even if every time (well, half the time) a chapter ends you're like "drat I want to read more about them". Sometimes the chapters are really long though, the stories are divided thoughtfully, it's not like arbitrary stops every 20 pages. PS stay out of this thread if you haven't read all the books and care about spoilers, I dunno if the nice thread is still around.

Next season (6) is where we get to fully uncharted territory of stuff that would theoretically be going in Winds of Winter, and not just really aggressive adaptations of A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, which is what this season (5) is all about. We'll probably get some hints and ideas of what would be happening in the books that will never come out in this season, though, but more from reading between the lines of what characters and plotlines get dropped rather than actual direct spoilers and the show lapping GRRM.

Which mash up of book 4 and 5 has the goon seal of approval? Does it even really matter? Also, should I even bother or just read it as intended?

I did the Boiled Leather reading order and it was okay because you never went without something from a decent character for too long (depending on which characters you think are decent) but they still aren't very good!!!

So let me get this straight.. you guys would lead me to believe that after all the cool stuff that happens in the end of ASOS that the books quickly devolve into a big, pile of poo poo that's not worth the time? Cause right now I'm just getting to a point where everything I'm reading coincides with the show and it's really great.

I will say this about any attempts at "realism" medieval or otherwise on the show, old dudes like that get stronger as they age. It's pretty hosed up but true. Endurance though, that goes in the shitter. How many dudes did he kill? That's hard work.
