I think the secret to motorcycle cop isn't that he's gay it's just that he only wants to gently caress machines the reason he sped fast on the motorcycle at night after loving that girl all day was so he could finally cum with his one true love. In that way his deviant sexual lust lead him to a victim of deviant sexual lust the show is very poetic.

Nah, it's just something Lotsapizza got from Hunter S. Thompson: quote:Months later, when I rarely saw the Angels, I still had the legacy of the big machine—four hundred pounds of chrome and deep red noise to take out on the Coast highway and cut loose at three in the morning, when all the cops were lurking over on the 101. My first crash had wrecked the bike completely and it took several months to have it rebuilt. After that i decided to tide it differently: I would stop pushing my luck on curves, always wear a helmet and try to keep within range of the nearest speed limit…my insurance had already been canceled and my driver’s license was hanging by a thread.

precision posted:Literal rape fetishes aren't super common Yes they are. quote:From 1973 through 2008, nine surveys of women's rape fantasies have been published. They show that about four in 10 women admit having them (31 to 57 percent) with a median frequency of about once a month. Actual prevalence of rape fantasies is probably higher because women may not feel comfortable admitting them. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/all-about-sex/201001/womens-rape-fantasies-how-common-what-do-they-mean

Botnit posted:Yes they are. Does this rape fantasy differentiate between being grabbed in an alley by a homeless guy after a night at a bar and having Fabio come in to your candlelit room where he totally forces you to make love to him? Edit: Actually it does. Read the article after I posted and the results do differ a lot when the term "rape" is used between when "overpowed by a man romance novel style" is used. Soo kudos to me. limeincoke fucked around with this message at 00:12 on Jul 4, 2015 |

I'll admit I'm a few pages behind right now, but I just wanted to say that while there's a number of critics and sites who are doing a pretty good job at covering this season so far, it seems that for every good article published in regards to two episodes that have aired, at least two are published that are simply God-awful. I'm not saying that just because I disagree with their subjective takes on this aspect or that. I'm talking about honest-to-gently caress terrible reviews that spend more words crafting catty jokes about the accusations of plagiarism in season one, nitpicking actors'--even the ones in minor roles--past career decisions, or making speculations that we don't really have enough information to come to yet than they do talking about any part of the episodes' content in a significant manner. Somewhat needless to say: the most common offenders are the more minor sites and blogs, but still, it's annoying. Thinking back on it, though, with the exception of the plagiarism BS (as the accusations hadn't been made yet), all of this could be said about the first season, as well. Is the consensus that Velcoro died? I was thinking it was bean bag rounds or something, didn't notice any blood. I'm also hoping that he didn't, because I thought he was one of the more genuinely interesting characters. I was sorta iffy on Colin Farrell when he was announced, but I thought he did a really good job so far. Vince not so much, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, I don't think he has completely stunk it up yet, which is what I was expecting.

Serious question, why do a lot of people say/think that Ray was the main character/the most interesting character etc.? Not interested in disputing that - it's an opinion - I'd just like to know why. Personally speaking, he feels the most 'traditional' of the mains to me - a crooked detective with aggression and substance abuse problems. Even Antigone the tough-as-nails-mean-girl feels like less of a trope.

Farrell is trying his best, but Velcoro is like a parody of a cliche. So so so bad. Between that and Vince Vaughn struggling with Pizzolato's stylized dialogue its gonna be a rough year.

Narcissus1916 posted:Farrell is trying his best, but Velcoro is like a parody of a cliche. So so so bad. I thought that Velcoro is the most convincingly 'authentic' main character so far. I think the others (except Ani perhaps), are more much more caricaturish, than anyone from season 1. Mcconaughey was also over the top in season 1, but similiar to Farrell, I think he made the character believable. Velcoro is a cliche sure, but the character seems authentic to me. Like it could be a real person more or less, I feel much less so with the others. Even most of the minor roles seem way over the top to me, the drunk fat cop, the mayor, etc. even the pimp and the hooker. Vince's wife and the russian mobster guy are reasonable too I guess. It's not that I dont like the anguish of repressed gay motorcycle guy, but he doesn't seem real to me.

You apparently don't understand what the word literal means. And yes, 32% of women admitting to still having them when rape is used instead of forced still makes it "super common", the exact opposite of what you claimed. edit: beaten

Why are we talking(arguing) about the prevalence of rape fantasies in the True Detective thread?
|
![]() |
|
Because we just had an episode end in a character finding what was probably a rape pad and also precision is one of the shittiest posters in TVIV who claimed something stupid, so it's two birds with one rape.

Narcissus1916 posted:Farrell is trying his best, but Velcoro is like a parody of a cliche. So so so bad. I think a very good scene would be the scene from the first episode where Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell stare at each other for what felt like 10 minutes being sad but this time the mustache keeps swapping places like first it's on Colin but then it's on Vince and Colin's clean shaven and then it's back and forth back and forth while Sad Girl sings about broken wings or some poo poo. It would lead the viewer to ask the important question: is this all a dream???
