![]() I spent a bunch of time making this alchemy lab only to realize I have barely any seeds so its just going to be clogged with useless flowers ![]() Oh and on the subject of the party girl, you definitely don't need 14 NPCs for her to spawn. I haven't started hardmode yet so its impossible for me too have that many but the party girl showed up anyways. EDIT: Nevermind I'm dumb and can't count NPCs properly. It seems they even upped the amount collected by various means to help even out how overpriced his items can be. On the subject of the traveling merchant, are all the accessories he sells that can be tinkered with and combined useful? I know useful can be a bit of a blanket term and I can see if I was building the one that incorporates all the building enhancers or the pda can be useful but really only from a quality of life standpoint, not from a progression standpoint. Funnel the enemies into a pit (you stand on an elevated platform above it) that's lined with traps from the Jungle Temple. Deals with all the trash mobs from both moon events, provided it's sufficiently wide and you use the right traps (the spikey balls and flamethrowers are best I think....).

I just discovered my base design in one of my hardmode worlds absolutely trivializes pirate invasions.![]() Welcome to Unholy Heights. This world was fast-tracked to hardmode for the purpose of farming Wall of Flesh. After beating him once, I realized I needed a house so the Guide could respawn. I also realized I had a nice collection of obsidian brick and furniture. Thus was created the initial square of nine (Apparently I ran out of obsidian walls). The horns came next to add some storage space. They're made of pearlstone brick and hallowed wood painted red. Once I got the Meat Grinder, I just had to build a meaty expansion. But I digress. The pirates coming in from offscreen would fall into my Celebratory Dart Pits and repeatedly walk on the button. Any that managed to jump over the pits would fall prey to the spear and ball traps or just me standing at the door with my Megashark. I could have sealed the place completely (The switch over the door to the forge room controls some actuators), but I feel a bit hinky sitting out an invasion. The Flying Dutchman might have presented a problem, but I'd pretty much just gotten done making keys and summoning special mimics, so I just chucked my Flying Knife out the door and laughed at their spoooky ghost ship rubbing itself sensually on my wall.

Do you guys have any advice for a returning player? Like I finished the game when it was 1.1 or whatever and whenever I think about playing it again the going from nothing to everything "growth" is an appealing concept. But when I actually start playing, the grind just really gets to me, but the thought of just giving myself all the best gear doesn't do it for me either. I'm interested in seeing all the new content but are they any tweaks you guys could recommend to make the grinding less tedious whilst letting me keep the same "feel" of the game? I was thinking something like ores would drop x10 per block or something so that I'd still have to hunt them out to progress, but just not as much.

Just give yourself gold armor, a grappling hook, speed boots, horshoe in a balloon, and the pick and weapon you get for fishing. That'll give you enough to fully explore and defeat pre-hardmode without being too overpowered imo.

After my third strange plant, the dye trader gave me some "Living Rainbow" dye that makes me shift in all the colours of the rainbow. I can also use it on my mount.![]() I think I just won Terraria. Only bad thing is, I just got three dyes so I can't use it on my armor, mount and light pet all at once. Holyshoot posted:If I haven't played terraria seriously since 1.1 would starting out on expert mode be a bad idea? Expert mode is brutally difficult. If you're not willing to build huge, well prepared arenas for bosses and learn to dodge them like Neo, you'll have a bad time. I recommend you just do normal mode.

I was just barely able to make it to level 15 with Solar Armor and the Terrarian yoyo, which was enough to get me a North Pole and Christmas Tree Sword. This was without any real preparation. For comparison, with the same setup up I dominated the pumpkin moon event so hard I ended up with ~55 of each of the boss trophies.

Lasher posted:As much asI love my lava moat, yeah, gets me gently caress all loot. Lava doesn't need to be deep to deal damage to enemies. You can use one bucket for like a 20-tile long area, and it'll persist and damage anything that falls inside. If you then create an actuated "bridge" one tile above where the lava is and connect it to a lever, you can collect your loot from your death pit with ease.

How much does the Dryad's buff add, anyway? Wonder if it's worth trapping her in a little box underneath my arena. Destroyer would murder her, but most everything else would ignore her as long as I'm far enough away.
|
![]() |

Per the wiki her buff adds +8 defense. That's great for the pre-hardmode bosses but in hardmode, between +8 not being as huge a buff percentage-wise and the fact she'll probably be killed within seconds, it probably isn't worth the effort. You have to be pretty drat close to her to get the buff and it doesn't linger; it vanishes as soon as you're outside her area of effect.

![]() Freeeeeeeeeeeedoooooooooooom I eventually built a teleporter to my nurse, as well as an arena (pictured ![]() ... I also probably should've made it smaller. That was also probably the problem with the minecart; it was just so drat huge that I Moon Lord was constantly off screen at my speed. But I always oversize things. But man, I was thinking that with the nurse teleporter and my UFO I wouldn't really need knockback prevention, so I left off my shield, but drat was getting tossed around when trying to drop to the nurse teleporter annoying as hell. So that's going back on.

Holyshoot posted:What all am I missing out on not doing expert mode? For one thing, boss loot works differently. Rather than the boss just dropping its loot like a regular enemy, each person who participated in the fight gets a "treasure bag" containing the boss's loot which effectively means that the number of items it drops is multiplied by however many people are fighting it. Also, guaranteed in each treasure bag is a new, expert mode only item that's unique to each boss and in most cases has a totally new effect or ability. Also, rare drops, both from bosses and from regular enemies, have a higher chance of dropping in expert mode. And that's just in terms of items, there's also the fact that bosses have new mechanics in expert mode.

Thus marking more or less the end of my shits given about his dumb quests (the only thing worth a drat I haven't gotten from him already is, ironically enough, the tackle box).
