Nice and neat looking.

How do you manage to prime and paint them fully assembled? One of the reasons I'm sort of stuck on the tracks on the craptank is that I didn't want to put them on until after the painting was done.

I just paint very carefully. I don't like gluing things after painting them since it almost always results in having to repaint that bit since the glue stripped the paint. I wouldn't even dream of painting track links individually and then gluing them on, I can't imagine not having to repaint the entire track after that anyway.

The only time I paint before assembly is completed is when I'm doing interiors.

Do you just brush paint, or do you use an airbrush at all?

I masked it for the camouflage, pretty standard bar the colours.

What is that goop you are using for the masking?

Boat update - finished the masting!

The main boom which extends aft from the main mast to hold the bottom of the main sail.

The two yards to hold the square top sail. The smaller one is called the topsail yard, and the larger one is the spreader yard.

All of the masting for the ship, ready to go for the next step. Rigging!

You could put on an acrylic clear coat first, if you want to be safe.

Or do a test on a piece of scrap plastic.

e: I THINK you should be okay. Lacquers are supposed to be super tough once fully cured.

I believe it is silly putty. Great for hard(er) edge camo schemes and peels off without taking the underlying paint with it. It also doesn't leave a residue.

I only just read about this in Scale Auto magazine. Tamiya Smoke can be used to make kit chrome parts more realistic (and it also acts as a wash by pooling in recesses, except it's not opaque so you should get a darker silver)

Just for the record I've decided with all the crap I have to deal with this month, I need to bow out of the craptank build. I didn't even get it ordered, but I just don't see myself having enough free evenings (2) to build it to any kind of standards.

I'm entertained though, so that's good.

Yeah, lacquers and enamels will stand up to most stuff once they are dried. Oils and Acrylics will stand up to most things, but will wash away when overly "hot" products are scrubbed over them. Watercolours (although not used much in plastic modeling), don't stand up to much of anything.
