For what it's worth, those of use who started this series a little later (don't you dare accuse me of being a show-watcher though) and didn't spend years furiously waiting for Dance think the rest of you are loving insane.

Anyway, gurm feeds off of your pain and will keep publishing weird anthologies and YA fanfiction of his own setting until he's built up enough spite in his black heart to live forever.

I too think that Martin feeds off pain and hate, which means it's this thread's faul that he is so fat.

I didn't wait furiously for AFFC. Or even ADWD. I am eagerly awaiting TWOW because I wanna see how GURM is gonna gently caress it up even worse. Been reading since 1998 and the long waits between books is only a tiny part of my disdain for the series.

I was reading AFFC on a road trip to boston and back and got to the part where Cersei offers jaime the office of the hand, who says no, then kevan, then kevan says no. Then he says well okay but only if you gently caress off to casterly rock and make me the reagent. Tywin never liked you and thought jaime was his heir. Then cersei puts down jaime and he says yeah true jaime does suck and you offered him the hand first so what does that say about you. Then he says guess what i know you hosed your brother, drops the mic, and walks out. It was so beautiful I am almost positive none of it ended up in the show, but I can't remember.

Did Kevan even have a speaking role this season? Besides possibly saying "sorry tywin is dead, my son is religious now okay bye"

The show had a scene where Cersei makes herself de facto Hand, and Kevan burns her and walks out when she tries to give him a Small Council seat.

Yeah, they really downplayed her whole making progressively worse and worse decisions this last season. Just reporting a gay and then doing the shame walk. Thats all she did really. Kind of sucked, but what ever. I don't watch the show to see anything interesting, I watch the show to finally get a damned ending.

They took sansa, brienne, jaime, and tossed all their stories in the garbage and threw together some bullshit fight set pieces and rape shock scenes, and the ironborn don't exist anymore because they were not mentioned even once.

I'm 90% sure they didn't even use theon to get the ironborn to give up moat cailin.

The iron born stuff is all gonna be next season I suspect. We'll finally get an answer to the Euron/~*Daario*~ question!!! Also we'll finally get to see flashbacks to the Tower of Joy and other fun stuff that they've been putting off for several seasons to try and fill the gaps.

They screwed up every worthwhile thing from AFFC. The show is more an exercise in seeing how many people its bad fanfiction can piss off on the internet and how badly a production team can mishandle a budget than anything else at this point.

It's the adaptation GRRM deserves, not the one he needs.

Not having Cersei's story be "IM DUM IM SO DUM REAL DUM VICTARION AND HODOR SEEM SMART TO ME IM NOT FAT MY DRESSES SHRINKED DUM DUM DUM" is the one thing from S5 that sucked less than the books.

Being terrible is a pretty accurate way for them to properly cover AFFC though considering it's a garbage book. Not Kingkiller-grade garbage, but still pretty bad.

Are people pissed off on the internet though? Everywhere I go but here it's a massive hugbox for the series, mostly from people who watch it half-heartedly not understanding who half the characters are because opening a wiki is like the biggest waste of time even though spending 10 hours with a series you don't even fully understand seems like a bigger one.

As for the budget... I recall tuning out after the first season of the show because I could tell that ACoK wouldn't adapt that well structurally and the first three or so episodes seemed to vindicate that supposition, and tuning in for the Battle of Blackwater made me realize that even at this show's "time to go for broke" spectacle moments they still couldn't make a battle sequence that looked better than a more expensive Buffy/Angel Ren Faire affair. I saw a YT of the Riot scene though and that was decently handled.

There's an episode of Buffy in Season 5 where they show a quartet of vampires amidst the chaos of a Chinese Revolution around the turn of the 20th Century, it involves two sets-- an inner temple and just outside that temple--and it manages to convey a sense of scale I never got from GoT showing a fleet of ships attacking a city bay amidst green napalm. That's not even anger-provoking... it's just sad.

If you only saw those parts of the show, you missed all the loving. It's mainly a porno.

Then when they try to have real scenes, the writing seems on par with porno which is kind of meta humor from the writers I guess.
