I don't know if you noticed, but most people here don't agree with your assessment at all. It's a good read. I guess good on ya for not translating something you don't enjoy? My point was moreso that I didn't just start reading and keep reading. I started reading the first few chapters specifically to see if it was something I'd enjoy, or even be able to tolerate, working on. And I just do not like it at all. And it baffles me that people can like it. I mean, to each their own, but ... really?

CW is pretty loving good but you have to take it as a bizarre slice of life show since the tone moves around a lot (like other absurd mangas). And despite its whiplash, the world and its characters are incredibly consistent. Which is a loving feat really given how hosed up the world appears to be once you scratch off the pristine veneer it has on the top.

Yeah, its a fun series and the general creep of background weird poo poo adding a feeling of unease to otherwise ordinary goings on is a really cool thing that a lot of my favourite stuff does.

The penalties for even making "racially" charged remarks is like something out of a Conservative nightmare and it's never quite clear whether the author is supportive or parodying the progressive measures that the series depicts. The stories with the young kids is usually 100% adorable though and the more typical SoL stuff is nice. The problem is that I think that the author wants to do a few different types of series but his editor won't let him just drop Centaur's Worries to do so. I am a little disappointed to hear FwPA is dropping the series, but given the evolution of the series, it makes sense.

Captain Invictus posted:Hey you suck, shut up I think my point was lost in me trying to put some really, really bad humor into it. The main thrust is this: I think a CW recommendation in a monstergirl thread talking about the other monstergirl mangas should have an asterisk. If you like it, cool (but still, really?). Just like if you still like Bleach (I mean ... really?), feel free to recommend* (edited) it, but asterisk it before recommending it to people. Though that's a different discussion entirely. Also sorry if it does seem passive aggressive - I've been told that I can sometimes say things that people think are super passive-aggressive when I don't really mean it that way.

If you think Centaur Worries is bad just say you think it's bad and be done with it. You can say why you think it's bad, if you care, but I'd advise not tiptoeing around it like it's some taboo subject we're discussing in secret for fear that someone might overhear. I haven't read CW but I highly suspect it's the sort of thing that anybody who reads it will quickly be able to parse whether it's for them or not. Nobody who doesn't want to read it is going to be tricked into doing so, and nobody sane who reads it and dislikes it is going to keep going just because the monster girl thread recommended it.

The Bird Cafe manga that got mentioned a while back is really good and cute and sweet, I reaaally like how all the birds react to coffee The mermaid one is also really good, the recently scanlated arc about the day on the mountain was super charming!

How Close Are Your Favorite Monster Girls to Their Mythological Counterparts? Part 2: More Like Poopi The harpies were a race of women with the bodies of birds and the heads of women. At first, they were seen as wind spirits, but as time went on they became more and more malevolent. Both Homer and Hesiod speak of harpies as agents of Hades who would take away people who refused to go to Tartarus, torturing them in their sharp claws. However, this is not where harpies got their fame. The most famous story of harpies is the story of King Phineas of Thrace. Phineas had the gift of prophecy. He drew the ire of Zeus by revealing too many plans of the gods, and thus cursed him two ways. First, he was blinded. Then, Zeus gave him an ironic punishment. The gods love their ironic punishments. He was stranded on an island where there was food everywhere, but when he went to eat something, the evil harpies would either take it away or poop in his food. Phineas stayed here for a while until Jason showed up. Jason saw the starving old man and had pity on him, killing all the harpies so he could finally eat. In return, Phineas revealed how to traverse some dangerous rapids in the future. So yeah, harpies are evil. Over time, they got a two more attributes, ugliness and uncleanliness. Harpies were linked with general disgust, mostly linked with feces. For ugliness, just take a look at a picture of a harpy from the Middle Ages. That's what a "true" harpy should look like, a woman's head on a bird's body. There is, however, a parallel image of harpies that's more recognizable to us. NSFW Remind you of anyone?
