Here is our deployment map: And it is also where I take the opportunity to gently caress things up. Instead of placing asteroids in turns, I'm going to have each of you MS Paint this up independently and mail me your choices, three obstacles per side, all at once. Otherwise we'd be starting the first movement phase sometime in October. Obstacles must be placed within the smallest interior box - that's range two from the edge. Questions, comments, hatemail can be sent to xwingpbp at the gmail.

I'm at work now, I'll have my lovely MS paint thing emailed in later tonight after I'm off. Also I'll take initiative. I figured Strobe was gonna be doing something like this. My own list is largely just me messing around, I doubt it'll be as effective as Soontir+Carnor+Doomshuttle but I've played that one already so I figured Wants versus TIE-Wangs.

My list building is consistent, if nothing else. I was sorely tempted to use Red Ace, R2-D2, Autothrusters, and Comm Relay, though. But that would be a dick move, and it's the first game.

Another option is giving Red Ace the Astromech that gives someone an EPT if they don't have it and giving him both Comm Relay and Juke, but R2-D2 is probably better for his survivability overall.

As predicted, blind obstacle placement ended weird. Strobe, you get to pick your deployment side. I'll leave it up to the two of you, after seeing these results, as to whether you want to do simultaneous secret placement of all your ships, or do it the Official Way from lowest to highest PS.

Those asteroids.

I see we had some very similar ideas. Let's do simultaneous blind placement just to see where it gets us. Top or bottom, Strobe?

I'll take bottom (aw yeah). Won't get to a computer until late tonight, but I'm and in my stuff then. What are you pilot skills again? I've got 4/6/8.

Strobe, if you wanted Kyle on the other side of things, let me know. Either way, Kai's space bus moves first.

That's Emperor Palpatine's Party Wagon, thank you.

Hah, yeah, I meant the other side. Whoops. Also meant to have them up against the range 1 barrier.

I dunno, I kinda like this spacing arrangement.

# ? Sep 19, 2015 04:23 |

Kyle moved and rebels mushed up against the fence. Sorry, I was always told that you had to be up against the deployment edge. Is that not the case? Space bus moves three forward, focuses. Kyle and Red Squad Vet are up.

Big ships have to have some part of their base touching the edge of the mat to start but small ships can deploy within range 1 of the the edge.

Wait, are we setting moves in PS order? That's... not a good idea. I'll email my dials when I have a few spare minutes for it.

I'm open to suggestions as to how to do it otherwise. Were you thinking whole side at once? I'd be worried about action resolution, personally.

grassy gnoll posted:I'm open to suggestions as to how to do it otherwise. Well the way I thought it was working is the both of us submit all our movement picks for the round (i.e. set our dials) and once that's all submitted then you begin moving them in PS order, pausing to allow us to take actions as necessary. In fact I sort of assumed Strobe had already gotten his dials in which is why we'd gone ahead to my Shuttle's movement So something like: 1). Me and Strobe both submit movement dials. 2). Shuttle moves, takes its action. 3). Then (going in PS order) all of Strobe's ships have their movement, Strobe decides upon actions. 4). Then the rest of my ships move, I choose actions. 5). Pew pew pew.

I concur, though I think if you've got your action already well in hand for what you're going to do, you can put out there beforehand. For example, I already know exactly how I want Poe to interact with BB-8, PTL, and his maneuver, so I included all of that in the message.

# ? Sep 20, 2015 05:18 |

Fair enough. I've got everyone's moves, at least, so we'll roll that way. I guess worst case scenario we have to do some fudging on barrel rolls, but we'll burn that bridge when we cross it. Red Squadron Veteran moves 3 forward, focuses. Kyle Katarn moves 2 forward, focuses. Poe Dameron sets forward 3. BB-8 kicks in, barrel rolls forward right, PTL kicks in and focuses. Green move 3 clears the stress. Poe checks target lock, not in range. Vader moves 5 forward, action pending. Nobody is as of yet in range. If I'm not having another brain fart, there's nothing the TIE/as can do that'll stick except barrel roll, which will also not get you into range, and at least one is impossible because it'll plant you dead center into an asteroid. Unless you have a cunning plan I'm missing, I think we're at turn 2.

Just an FYI but Mark Steel moves/shoots after Poe...he has Veteran Instincts which mean his Pilot Skill is 9 along with Vader. Didn't matter this round, but it will going forward. Mark will take a (pointless) evade. As for Vader, I don't have any cunning plans, but what I will do with him is Boost straight 1 (as he has Engine Upgrade) and then check for a Target Lock on Poe. I think it'll still just put me out of range but I'm not 100% sure so I might as well see.
|
# ? Sep 20, 2015 18:25 |

So noted. Marek is now PS9. If I missed any more upgrades, now is the time to check and shout at me. Vader boosts one forward and just barely scoots into range 3 with Poe. Target lock on Poe. Are you shooting?

# ? Sep 20, 2015 18:36 |

Well since I'm here and all, sure. Two red dice at range 3, so Poe gets a bonus green die (for 3 total). Vader has the Advanced Targeting Computer which means I can forgo spending the target lock to add 1 Critical Hit result on top of whatever else I roll (so 2 red dice + 1 automatic Crit result, essentially). He also has Predator so he gets to reroll a die when attacking which I'll do if I roll any blanks or eyes. edit; and Poe has Autothrusters too, so he'll turn one blank into an evade as well. Kai Tave fucked around with this message at 18:44 on Sep 20, 2015 |

At the start of the combat phase, Kyle gives Poe one of his focus tokens.

Vader rolls Hit, Hit, adds Crit. Poe rolls Evade, Evade, blank. Autothrusters at range 3 turns that blank into an Evade. Vader's attack doesn't hit. Well, that was decisive! Are you guys cool with me transcribing the VASSAL log for rolls? I can take a screencap, but that is a little more circuitous. If there's nothing else, send me your moves for the next round.

He sure does. Kind of annoyed I didn't go with Weapons Guidance, but that's only because I ended up with two focus after defense. Go ahead and spend focus if it comes up. I'll send my moves in when I get home.

Ugh, poo poo. I'm making a complete hash of this. Poe fires at Vader, rolls blank, Eyeball, Hit. Vader rolls blank, Eyeball, Evade, blank. Vader takes one damage.

Poe has two focus right now, so yes. I also suspect Kai Tave will use Palpatine to make one of those blanks an evade.
