Yup, although I do think Pallbearer is doing better trad doom than just about anyone, but critics have unironically called them "gamechangers." When they toured together it was too perfect.

It's called death metal and it slays. If it doesn't, it ain't done right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSpvreAc3uk Vintersorg posted:Just listen to that stuff done by the most brutal place in the world: Loss of Self have a really nice vibe, it gets at something that has been lost between other sounds, but it isn't fully materialized. It's an interesting band, but I feel like they haven't developed their songwriting much, and as they do, they might lose that vibe. Perhaps they'll get even deeper into it, it changed a bit from the demo to the EP. Perhaps they're not that similar, but I felt the same way about how Raate evolved and the vibe changed, though it was a bit more borrowed in that case.

Overkill / Symphony X was amazing last night, holy poo poo. Blitz still has it all these years - what a goddamn solid frontman. It was their first time here but I hope not their last. I wish I caught em in the past - they are so loving good live! Its a decent set with a good mix - would have liked a couple more tracks from Taking Over but whatevs. It was also my first time seeing Symphony X live. They were always my favorite and about as "cheese" as id get when it comes to prog / power metal since I dont really listen to that genre. They were technically proficient but their stuff was a bit overly loud (at the front I could barely hear Russell Allen vs. Blitz who I could hear perfectly) - it seemed their mix was a bit off. I have to say tho that Allen was cheesy as gently caress - good on the guy for going from a doughy guy singing about weird nerdy things - but he had the typical rock-dad outfit: silver oakleys, chain wallet, rock shirts (and eventually coming out in a sleeveless shirt that was something out of UFC bro wear). To top it off he comes out in a goddamn custom made made harlequin mask. Not the best shot but it was cheesy as gently caress. I guess you can get all fit but you cant take the dork out of him. Still awesome - SX rules. EDIT: Setlists Vintersorg fucked around with this message at 14:59 on Sep 28, 2015 |
