The shotgun does 30 damage per pellet, with 10 pellets per shell. Simple shotgun is a dual barrel coach gun, so in theory, that's 600 damage raw. Most guns are 115-130% damage. Now add a 40% bonus to that. Suddenly the shotgun is doing ~1k per reload. Birds take 3x damage. Even with a good saddle dropping the DPS in half, that's 1500 damage to a bird that generally only has 2-5k HP. At that point you either drop the guy and gently caress off, or die like a scrub.

Plus it means you can blap pubbies in the face with it for optimum hilarity.

Except you massivley underestimate how much reduction armor provides. At 25 saddle armor, each pellet's damage is reduced by ~67%, at 50 armor about 82%. If they're using battle tartare, 97%. I've pumped half a dozen rounds into the face of an argie with a ~150% shotgun and it wasn't even bloody. Explosives are all but useless too.

Birds need to not gain armor from the saddle. They'd be tolerable if they actually took the damage they're meant to.

It's not at all practical, but explosives are not useless against birds damage-wise. Semi-beefy warbirds with ~6000hp can nearly be one-shot by a single chunk of C4 which someone on 82 learned the hilarious way. I think Bootman flew away at the last second with barely 1k health left on his bird, if that.

What does this mean? That blueprints no longer use up inventory slots on workshops? Or that there was some strange bug where the engrams you learn count as items?

I'm pretty sure that your inventory has 300 slots (max) so maybe they were counting engrams in those 300 slots and it was stopping you from filling your inventory with idk... 300 stacks of hide?
I don't think is talking about blueprints but if it is, that's cool.

Is there somewhere in particular the Quetz is more likely to spawn? After capturing the first one I saw at level ~4, I've flown around the volcano and other mountains for many hours now looking for another one at a higher level. Nothing.

I even nuked all non-tame dinos on the server after that patch came out to give them a chance to spawn properly.

Last night we found a Quetz flying around the biome change to the north-west of the volcano. She flew herself into the mountain, got stuck, and then we tamed her halfway up a cliff.

Just after that I saw another one flying around between the grand peak and the writhing swamps. They were both flying at an altitude twice as high as the tree tops. Those are the only Quetzs we've seen on the server.

Word is, babies level is based on parents, though the mechanics aren't enumerated yet. Beyond that, based on what's been seen so far in this thread, we can assume cuddly raptors and maybe dino porn.

It will be interesting to see how this is implemented.
1. Baby has level based on the starting level of both parents. The guys with high level tames continue to dominate the breeding game and everyone cries.
2. The baby has level based on the current level of parents. Everyone will be two generations away from having 220 Rexes and everyone cries.
3. Something else?? ...everyone cries.

When you "Host Non-Dedicated Multiplayer Session" is that session persistent across plays, or does it basically wipe when you quit? What I'm looking to do right now is just gently caress around with 2-3 others in a private setting and not get ganked by eurotrash.

Persistant I believe. Also, if you dont want to be ganked , why not try a PVE server?

The other option is getting a low pop private server so you can fiddle with the settings as well. Me and a few friends did that and it turned out great since we have times where some people want to play when no one else is on.

It is persistent and in that situation yes, it's exactly what you'd want. The game is saved and loaded from the host's machine.

They gave one of the most boring dinosaurs ever (iguanodon) a legitimately interesting in-game gimmick:

It can change stances. On all fours it has endless stamina, and when bipedal it's faster and can stab with its thumb-spikes. Neat.

I like that a lot. I mean, the seeds thing is a bit odd - the one thing that you don't really need more of in this game is seeds (except for very early on, I guess) - but the stance toggle is quite interesting. Hopefully it'll be an alternative early game mount to the parasaur (and similarly easy to tame), and one with a little bit more staying power. I'm going to be torn between this and the procoptodon for a "wandering around" mount, I just know it.

I struggle to comprehend how these devs put out so many updates with so much new content so quickly, did they maybe have a lot of the assets and data in various stages of preparedness before EA? Or is it simply good design from the models that they can be adapted and turned into new dinos without too much hassle?

Haven't enjoyed a survival/builder game this much since Spergineers and Minecraft, building a castle in the snow biome is a real challenge, especially since sabertooths and wolves are such assholes, but that sweet sweet oil.

From what I understand, the engine makes things like dropping a new dino in very easy, since you're basically just applying existing templates for behaviour etc. to a new model and dropping it in. They don't have to do anything like testing how the new dino affects the ecosystem, because that's what the whole EA environment is there to test. It's conversely quite difficult to add a new thing in - like an object with a completely new interface, for example.

Incidentally, does anyone else hate cooking pots? I am constantly setting fire to myself on those things because the distance required to interact with them is very close to the distance required to start cooking yourself, and there's no step or anything to stop you from just running up one of the poles.

It's not a big deal, but when you're doing a kibble marathon and you're rushing from taps to any of the pots you've got going, bad stuff happens. Have no hair on my lower legs any more.

I hope so (that it was in one of the digests) - it certainly seems that it's something that should quite obviously happen, since the manually decanting game is not one that anyone cares to play. Would happily take either cooking pots being irrigated like crop plots or a stove item that actually gets linked to your water supply.

Or even cooking pots only using 25% of the water in a skin/jar/canteen rather than the whole thing no matter how full it is, for that matter. :argh:
