Has anything been mentioned about those four (?) alien languages that he promised? I'm sure he said that professional linguists were going to be creating the languages from scratch. It was a something-million-stretch goal I think. e: PAAAAAARRRRPPPP!

Either because they care about their consumers or because if someone blows their life savings and then their wife leaves and they kill themselves, that would be bad PR. I think CIG legit doesn't give a gently caress about these rubes. Except they do it through a forced smile than outright contempt like Games Workshop. I think the most rational explanation is that Chris Roberts is high on his own supply. When or even if he realizes it doesn't really matter anymore, it's already too late.

Yeah this is probably the same things the news sites will echo next year when things get real dire. The biggest red flag for me that not many people talked about was the fact that they revealed at CitCon Sq42 is no longer a linear mission-to-mission story, but it's going to be an OPEN WORLD GAME. That seems like a massive shift this late in the game.

True, he just thinks he is a creative visionary and his word is law. The problem is that the creative medium he is working in isn't a one man operation anymore. His fan base just reinforces that notion with the silencing of even the smallest amount of dissent. And he will never realize he was the problem. He will place the blame on everyone but his inner circle. His ego is simply too big.

Prototyping or proof of concept seems great until you try to expand features, and in my experience you end up rewriting the code often at a much slower pace. One of the problems CIG faces, is that they have to continually build proof of concept / demos / videos to get something out to backers. There have been admissions by CIG staff relating to shortcutting proper solution and using hackery to ship AC for example. While they internally recognised the need to build reusable systems they still seem to be struggling due to such high expectations. I was excited when they posted the new flight model information, however the lack of any working dev videos make me nervous.

He should of stayed on target with his core game but no retard fucker that he is had to go off in lala land and make who knows what. That dude is a entitled spoiled loving soft bitch. The autistic weirdos who have no social skills cant cut it anywhere but the worst firms. Yeah but seriously, if you're an auditor and you have money in this you're a loving idiot and terrible at your job. A 'fully funded' project that keeps asking for more money? Misses every self imposed release date? Management without any accountability (why yes, having the boss' wife as the head of HR is a great idea) High turnover of all the top level staff? CEO who spends 8 hours writing a batshit insane email? Customers who are getting their refunds through a loving movie company? There are so many red flags here its insane. This is going to end up as a textbook case of how someone can blow through $94M and the importance of internal controls.

Also reminder that all the ships are actually physically propelled through the gamespace by their thrusters, so that's another layer of complexity that slows down implementing things as opposed to just making the entity move around and changing turn rates/speed etc. What does this add to the experience? Nothing. Nobody will notice it, it's an additional complexity that serves no purpose other than to make things much more difficult to add or change.

Actually when I last played Arena Commander just after it launched this meant that a lot of the ships handled like complete loving garbage because they couldn't get the thrusters to feel right for what you would expect in a video game, as the ships aren't really designed with feasibility in mind. It owned.

With the scope of promises that have been made for this project, there is absolutely no excuse for not writing their own engine. Engineering a AAA game engine is an endeavor, but with what has been promised out of this project, it would only make sense, as modifying any off the shelf engine to deliver on their broad promises would take so much custom modification they might as well make a bespoke engine. If I were running this project, and I were trying to deliver an outer space sim/in atmosphere flight model/fps/walking around loving with poo poo/manage the {cargo bay, slaves, barista}/gently caress space prostitutes/do whatever game, I would assume right off the bat I should probably produce my own engine so I don't have to deal with architectural design decisions made based upon supporting a game about walking around in a jungle with a machine gun. Maybe then they would be able to get their targeting reticule to function properly.
