Retribution Part One When I think back to that day, I'm reminded that it was the day that I let the darkness of the Galaxy take root in my soul in it's entirety. It's tendrils strangling what little hope I had to lead a normal life. I was certain that I had left my past behind me, that it would not interfere in my wishes for a regular life of working in a nine-to-five with a beautiful family. How wrong I was. It was supposed to be a pleasant family vacation to Terra, a planet which I had been to countless times in the past when I worked for the UEE. My family didn't know of that past, however. In their version of my history, I had never left Earth just as they hadn't. I had been UEE Guard, a branch that never left orbit of Earth and protected its interests on the ground. However, I was much much more than a simple guardsman. I was what the UEE called a "Cleaner". Someone who took care of high priority targets when diplomatic avenues broke down. I wiped them from existence and made them disappear. It was a dirty job, but someone had to do it. Much better me than someone else who might make a mistake. I'll start from the beginning of the story, so as not to confuse anyone who might read my memoirs. Judge me if you must, but remember...you weren't there.

Beer4TheBeerGod posted:On a lark I decided to be a little less charitable towards CIG and try something different. I assumed that CIG's growth in dedicated staff was linear between each data point, leading to a total predicted expenditure of $44 million. Again that's based on Frontier's monthly expenditure of $9320 per person. I then decided to see if I could estimate the contractor burden. We have three available data points from CIG about "developers" as opposed to dedicated staff. In October 2012 there were only 5 developers so likely no contracts. In October 2013 there were 90 developers and 52 dedicated staff for a difference of 38 people. In October 2014 there were 240 developers and an estimated 172 dedicated staff (assuming linear growth) for a difference of 68 people. We know that Behavior started working with CIG in December of 2012, and CIG also has contracts with Turbulent and CGBot as well as a now defunct over with IllFonic. So for shits and giggles I decided to estimate a "contractor burden" of 40 people, and estimate that load from December 2012 to the present. That translated to around $13 million. So if you assume that CIG's staff growth is linear between their data points, and that CIG's development contractor expenses are the equivalent of 40 people per month, then you're looking at $57 million spent. Obviously the numbers surrounding the contracts are ridiculously soft but it's a fun mental exercise. They've got about $11.35m left. Don't ask me how I know any of that.

Hav posted:Huh? Motion sickness mostly comes from movements not matching visual input. You don't cure motion sickness with code. I don't know about VR, but in general there are things that make it better or worse. Third person is usually better than first person. If first person is required putting a fixed point like a crosshair in the center of the screen helps some people (putting a little sticker in the center of the monitor helps some people in games that don't have a fixed point). Field of view makes a difference. Head bobbing makes it much, much worse why would you even do that??? Stupid gimmicks like camera shake and motion blur can make it worse. Code can't solve the problem of people having broken brains, but there are features under control of the game makers that can definitely influence the severity of the problem.
