BTW, turns out my screen garbage was caused by an old version of SwitchRes left in the system. SwitchRes and EC don't get along and the author himself states on his website you have to disable SIP if you want it to work because his software directly modifies certain monitor resolution profile assets. The last thing I will say about Flash is that it's a festering gateway to security hell but good luck trying to convince upper management to ban it, depending on how savvy they are. If one user complains they can't access an online resource without it (translation: an assistant director can't play online blackjack when he/she wants) then gently caress you and your egghead IT pie-in-the-sky online security. I've got a seemingly simple issue with Safari 9 in El Capitan I can't figure out. After some arbitrary amount of time, stuff stops loading -- at first I thought it was Google services, but many more (if not all) websites are affected. Restarting Safari fixes the issue. Any thoughts?

Since El Capitan my mouse frequently stops working until I restart. I have a Logitech wireless that works fine generally but for no apparent reason just stops working as though it was suddenly unplugged. I can't find any cause for this at all. Did El Cap change something about this?

Yeah, the battery is fine, the receiver is plugged in (tried plugging it out and back in, didn't help), Logitech Control Center is updated (and beachballs post-freeze if I try to access it) and this only gets fixed by restarting. It can happen pretty much at any time the mouse is being used. It can work for a couple of days or twenty minutes, no idea what triggers it.

Oops, for some reason I glanced at the log mostly looking at the latency and for some reason thought it was to your router. Are you pinging using the IP or "localhost"? Try both, do they give different results?

Given that it alternates between normal and horrible it may be some kind of heavy but intermittent CPU load which causes hiccups in response time, rather than the network stack being at fault.

The problem was Skype causing mDNSResolver to consume crazy amounts of resources. I don't know if upgrading or restarting it did the trick, I'll see.

Ok so I got a new computer and I am trying to export my iphoto/photos library over to the new computer. When I open up the photos app it shows all of my pictures, it will let me double click and open a larger version, etc. However when I try to export them, either via the menu or dragging and dropping, I get an error message that says "Could not load image (1,019)" I tried doing a database repair on it to no avail, I tried uploading them all to icloud but they won't upload. Is there anything I can do to salvage these pictures? EDIT: Some photos WILL export, about 206 of them. It looks like all the pictures that are hosed up are the ones that were imported from iPhoto.

Oh. Mine doesn't do that. I just get no movement and I suppose reconnecting the receiver just reboots it or something. I usually get the Logitech helper app open too showing me how to connect a device.

Unplugging it and plugging it back in always fixes it, but it's really annoying. Is this just some sort of power saving BS in Yosemite/El Capitan that can be turned off? Right now I'm just preventing my laptop from going to sleep when it's plugged into to the power adapter.

If you do any kind of audio work I would HIGHLY recommend not upgrading to El Capitan. It made my home interface not work (M-Audio I know, but it's worked fine since 10.8)

I think around the time they hosed with Final Cut, they shifted their focus toward home and business consumers. I know they're trying to make serious inroads for Enterprise and IBM shifting their focus to Apple integration in the workplace has really reinforced that. Logic doesn't seem terrible (at least from a hobbyist standpoint), but Aperture is gone for good and I heard nothing but horror stories from my friends regarding Final Cut when the latest version was released.

FCPX is actually fine now on ElCap, it was unbelievably buggy just a few months ago though. I used it every day for work and was getting so many crashes to desktops it was insane.

I really miss aperture RIP in peace  I've used logic on a few occasions and I'm not really a huge fan, although the virtual instruments that come with it sound really good. My impression is that it's just "Garageband 2.0" and although I've heard the audio rendering is better than comparable 'hobbyist' (not pro-tools) DAWS like Abelton it just seems like a really clunky/slow program to work with. It may be a long shot, but iPhoto and Photos libraries tend to be openable in Finder by right clicking and selecting "Show Package Contents". The originals should be somewhere in there.

If they're actually still in the old iPhoto or new Photos database and not lost to the digital Kraken, you can always get them out manually by finding your library in Finder, and right-click and choose “Show Package Contents”. The originals will be nestled a few layers deep in there under the Masters subdirectory.
