Why yes, putting some bigger regulation on the purchase of stocks would hinder rampant speculations. This might prevent economic bubbles, which in turn would boost the economy. Does Tinsley think that the concept of economy equivalent to the price of stocks? Because that is an incredibly naive assumption.

Lol at Allie using his ponytailed liberal stereotype to represent the media paying attention to Trump. It's that darned liberal media's fault that Trump is so popular among Republican voters!

And here we are, the final look back at January in... For February I am probably going to take a different approach to this. Rather than do cartoonist-based dumps for that month, I will instead cover cartoons from that specific week in 2008. Beside more closely following the primary and election in real time, it also means I'm not explaining the same stuff each week and makes for easier comparisons of how each cartoonist handles a news issue. But let's finish this month first. Matt Bors 1 The 9/11 cross was actually a Thing for some period of time. Basically debris formed a cross and that was a sign that God cared about America despite allowing 9/11 to happen. It's not really pertinent to this cartoon, which is making the obvious observation that Rudy heavily leaned on his post-9/11 popularity. 2 i don't think this is referencing anything in particular. 3 How crazy were the 2008 primaries? This comic was printed January 11th, by which time Iowa already had its primary. Super Tuesday was early February as states were constantly pushing up voting dates in hopes of getting all that sweet media attention. Also Bors has the creepiest Huckabee caricature I've seen. 4 Eight years ago, Bors was still doing meta-commentary on media coverage of non-events. 5 I have no idea where the whole "sit down and have a beer" thing came from, but Obama's "beer summit" wouldn't occur until 2009. 6 The biggest takeaway from this cartoon (besides the fact that Chuck Norris backing Huckabee finally began the decline of that meme) is that Bors is the only cartoonist I've seen thus far to have acknowledged Gravel's candidacy in the democratic primary. Apparently Gravel was fairly popular online, getting more hits on YouTube and his site than even Obama. Otherwise, he did not do well, running at like 0.5% in the polls, a number so bad that networks assumed he had dropped out after Iowa and erroneously reported as such. He actually wasn't able to compete in Iowa, but stayed in the primary until late March despite draining all his campaign money. That same month he would flip to the libertarian party and, while saying Palin was a good VP choice, voted for neither McCain nor Obama, opting to support the Green party. He's now the CEO for some marijuana company 7 Just to give you an idea of how drat good the Obama campaign was: the Change We Can Believe In motto was already a thing in January. Air is lava! posted:Why yes, putting some bigger regulation on the purchase of stocks would hinder rampant speculations. This might prevent economic bubbles, which in turn would boost the economy. I can't find it, but sometime back in 2004 or so Bush was asked about problems with the economy, and he said something like "the stock market is the ultimate judge of the economy." It's naive and simplistic, but it makes sense for a free-market ideologue to think that way.
