Customize the soldier, not their loadout. There will be a thing for weapon mods.

Grazes mean a successful dodge.

The big difference between Xcom 1 and Xcom 2 as far as hit calculations is the change to armor and dodge instead of "defense". In 1 the target's defense score was a flat subtraction to your hit chance, so you saw it take effect automatically. In 2 the dodge is a separate roll so the math works differently, but you also need to look at the enemy stats to take it into account.

Yeah, both of these. Flashbangs got a huge loving buff, in addition to the general buffs to grenades. The only, ONLY nerf I can see grenades ever got is that you can no longer aim for individual pixels, having to aim along the grid. And that's still incredibly minor. Explode everything erry day.
OTOH flashbangs get blocked by walls & obstructions now which can be a big problem in the wrong situation. They're great but not quite the magic solution to all problems they were in LW.

The only problem I have with swords is the less than 100% to hit chance. If they hit 100% of the time, they would be a clean-up tool or a way to pile damage on a big target after you've killed the rest of the pod, but with the added risk of exposing another pod when you move in.

As it is you run up to an enemy taking all that risk AND you have a one in nine chance of whiffing and losing your Ranger. I need to be very desperate or cocky to use the sword.

I too am saddened by assualts nerf at rookie rank.

So is it confirmed that Veteran cheats in your favor like the 2nd difficulty in XCOM?

I was having a rough time with Commander level, but smashing poo poo up flawlessly in Veteran. Things like shaving a hp off advent troopers so they only have 3 and grenades autokill them makes a big difference!

EDIT: Won EU and EW on Classic Ironman, so I'm not a total doofus. Can't play Veteran if I know it's cheating in my favor.

I doubt it cheats in your favor, that health difference is huge since it's so much easier to down the stock troopers.

The other part is that this game seems to ramp up difficulty as you go through the campaign a lot better than XCOM did. I'm midway through on Veteran (just got magnetic weapons & predator armor) and if I didn't have the upgrades I've got I'd be in big trouble, and I'm not seeing any 3-health troopers anymore. XCOM was often just a wall of difficulty from the beginning.

Just lost my first mission on Veteran, a really bad Faceless with two stun lancers and a Muton. Lost two dudes dead in one turn, another unconscious. Got the other two EVAC'd.

I feel like this got suddenly a lot harder than I can handle, both in the geoscape and in the battlescape. Avatar's two pips from done and I haven't done a single blacksite yet, only have North America contacted, and three months in I'm JUST getting T2 armor and weapons built. Oh dear.

The three biggest complaints I've seen about the game so far:

-performance
-mission round timers
-missed shots

Performance is a legitimate issue, so that one's fair, but it's like no one's ever played a game with RNG in it before. One of my friends is even refusing to buy the game until "they patch out the mission timers." :psyduck:

Go to Documents\my games\xcom2\pools\importables (I think, working from memory). The .bin file with your pool with be there. Do NOT rename it out of game, it breaks it.

I was terrible at EU/EW and I loving love the timers in this. I like how it adds urgency and another layer on the tactical side to think around instead of "hmm let me move my 5 guys up 7 tiles and overwatch them all."

I feel like the first tier skill should be two extra damage and increased hit chance. Would make it stack up a lot better in comparison to phantom.

Hahaha 240 intel what.

There's a base cost that's multiplied by the number of regions away from a radio tower (which is why putting up towers next to your expansion areas is always a good idea), plus a dark event (Alien Encryption) that doubles the Intelligence cost for the month when it's active, so numbers can get really big. To reduce costs build some towers, and there's also a hack reward that halves expansion costs, which is yet another reason why you should never not be hacking everything your specialist sets eyes on- hacking doesn't take an action until you actually commit to the hack and you can cancel it without penalty, so you're free to take a look inside everything you encounter just to see if it's something work the risk. When those rewards can range from extra supplies and Intel to halving your next research time or halving your scan times for a month or permanently boosting your hack score with a stackable +20 then you can really make bank.
