Let's Play The Cursed Crusade The Cursed Crusade is a historical-fantasy game about the fourth, "cursed" crusade. It's a hack 'n slash through and through, and received generally low marks for its repetition. I could care less though. It's basically an anime retelling of the fourh crusade by French people, and it's amazing. I'm not sure I can give it a better description than that. This writing is...incredible. I'm halfway through the first video and they're still introducing characters via voiceover narration. This script is an absolute trainwreck, I can already tell. ...Aaaand there's Azzy. Wow.

As many problems as the story has (and it has many), they clearly thought they were making something great.

That has to be the most awkward cutscenes sword fight I've seen in a long time. And the smallest army. Let's see where this ends up.

Haha, that camera focusing on the battering ram, perfect. They're besieging a bloody fortress with about twenty people, one ram and a few shields. And man, this game doesn't know when to shut up.

It's okay because we're anime men and we're worth hundreds of regular men. The game talks a lot, but you get used to it. Or you stop playing. I chose to get used to it, because I grew really fond of the amateurish vigor in the writing.

The first-draft storytelling is endearing, in a way. I hope you go into character upgrades at some point, because this game has some pretty rad designs at times.

Tasteful Dickpic posted:The first-draft storytelling is endearing, in a way. The characters, world, and Story are at least all consistent and coherent. They definitely just included things because they wanted to, though, and that gets... funny. I'm not sure what you mean by that second thing. The designs in this game are nice but the character upgrade screen is really nothing special. The game decides for you what your armor looks like, depending on where you are in the game. It's just stats, like, "you have more armor on your leg" -even though the game decides what it looks like for you- or "you can take more hits" and such things.

This seems like one of those games that had a lot of promise, and that the devs really cared about. It carries a lot of charm, and I can see the good parts in there. I could probably have a good time playing it, but I suspect the experience would be underscored with a bittersweet "this could have been so much better" feeling. Also, you're an lp-ing machine, man! I don't know how you manage to keep so many threads going, but it's really cool!

The thing with a game like this is that it could only really be improved narratively, and any objective improvement on that front might cause it to lose its charm. The mechanics are actually explored pretty well, it's just that there's not enough variety in the design to carry the whole game. I do really like that every enemy has the same capabilities as you, though.
