Something else is going on then, I am using a 950 with an i5 2500K and have AA turned off, Textures set to Extreme, and everything else on high and I maintain around 30-50fps (checked using FRAPS). Now, if I try to record gameplay with FRAPS, then my framerate goes down to the low-teens, but that's another matter...

Huh, I have what sounds like a similar machine: i7 3770k with a 980 ti ... and it runs buttery smooth @ 1080p with everything maxed except AA. e. Should clarify: I've seen the framerate tank if I blow up half the map with the shredstorm cannon... but it reminds me too much of XCom Apocalypse for me to stay mad. My specialist hacked a workstation for a mission, failed to get a useful bonus (the only one I've gotten so far was to disorient ADVENT for two turns, which would have been useful had the squad been anywhere near me), blew up the alien knockoff mec that is apparently invisible to scanners, and his reward was he got better grenades from the AWS. Nice.

I was hoping the Geoscape tutorial would have a clear point of "okay you're done now" so I know when to restart. If I could handle Classic Ironman in XCOM, can I handle Commander Ironman in XCOM 2? Also, is there anything important I should know about the Geoscape this time? The tutorial just kind of faded away and I think I get everything, but I'm not sure.

SynthOrange posted:Hello to make my earlier question more clear: I just built my facilities wherever I had space because I assumed that neighbouring facility bonuses were gone. Was I wrong? How does it work now? The only facility adjacency bonus which now exists is with Workshops. Specifically, you can place an Engineer in a Workshop, and they will be able to handle two adjacent facilities thanks to GREMLINS. You can upgrade the workshop to allow a second Engineer to work in it, for a total of four GREMLINS. There are no diagonal adjacency, only up, down, left, and right.

Doctor Schnabel posted:I believe you can hollow out the mod (ie, delete all the changes, but leave the file that loads that particular mod's directory) without corrupting your save. I'm pretty sure you can turn off auto-updates for the workshop somewhere as well, which is something you'll probably have to do if you want to keep playing your current campaign. Just go to the workshop directory in your steam library, copy the mod files to your XCOM directory, delete all the poo poo, just leaving the .xcommod file, and it'll load the mod to prevent save fuckery but it won't do anything. If it's a light mod that's like .ini edits it won't be an issue, but if it adds content and you have dudes with that content/class/whatever it may require a new game.

Victory. My war felt like it went long, but I savored every moment of it. Oh, that final level. We were so loving played by Jake. It captured the atmosphere of terror from the deep wonderfully while being entirely its own creature. Well played Jake, well played. It helps that it was also legit hard, and my four psi troopers took so much of the weight of that final exchange. That entirety of the actual ending was great too. We have a nice setup for a future game. A new foe on the horizon, ADVENT still being a problem and perhaps the corpse of a perfect being now inhabited by several(?) ethereals? Oh dear. So, Game good, good game. + Actually a entertaining plotline that was well told out for Friaxis and videogames. + Psionics were amazing this time. If Jake wants to work on a fantasy XCOM game, someone let him work on it. + All the classes were great, although I had very little reason to take rangers. + The lack of an airwar never felt like it missed something, the Geoscape is so much better. + The flavor of the game, the aliens, the weapons, the locations are all gold standard. + In the same vein, the sound work and the music are superb. + The timer adds so much to the game, although I must admit I think the mod that makes it only start ticking down when detected is probably the best solution. + The randomly generated maps are so good. The handcrafted maps are loving gorgeous. + The game is ruthlessly hard but in a way that never breaks you unless you start dropping entire squads. Good luck, Ironman Commanders. I don't envy you. - Its been said by a thousand voices at this point, but yes, the game is badly optimized. - Localization can certainly be improved. Making my russian sniper speak german was somewhat amusing, but it would have been nice to have more countries to pick. - Where In the World is Dr.Valhen. I did get a popup event that implied she has laboratories across the earth 'tho! - The contagion zones were missing apart from another popup. Also a shame, although that might end up being a hook for the follow up? - No Second Wave, although to be fair that was post-release content for Enemy Unknown, so hopefully... - I really digged the Avatar enemy, and would have liked her to turn up as a super-rare enemy on late game missions. All in all, the best pile of money I've spent on a videogame. Time to put it aside for a few weeks and then tear into its guts and/or mods. E: VVVV It is extremely anime. The best kind of anime. The kind that gave us Metal Gear Revengence. Thyrork fucked around with this message at 04:13 on Feb 9, 2016 |

I feel like the turn limits are fair about 90% of the time. But 10% of the time, they're complete bullshit and I can't imagine how I would make it without knowing the whole map ahead of time. Every once in a while they just don't play fair with how the map is randomly generated.

Welp, finished up, and hilariously the first game-stopping bug I came across only happened after the ending sequence, before (assumedly) the credits were to play. I just get a black screen. I can access the menu and even save, load, quit, all that just fine. But nothing happens so I don't see my stats screen. Also, if sword rangers are bad, how come Jane "Templar" Kelly had upwards of 90 kills by the final mission?

Speaking of .ini edits, if you go to \Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\Config\XComGameData.ini and change VeteranSoldierRank=3 to VeteranSoldierRank=0, you can customize their scars and poses without having to wait for them to level up.
