I guess that's my answer. Portability/weight is not something I'm particularly fussed about at this stage. More durability and stability. Sort of getting ping-ponged around looking for good affordable-ish tripod solutions for about 10-11 (22lbs) kg worth of camera.

The answer is always: http://www.bythom.com/support.htm

I did see one of these for sale in an antiques shop near here. But I don't want it for studio use. Outdoors.

I have a distributor for Vanguard Tripods near me that clears out their stock of return/scratch-n-dent/B-stock/etc tripods every summer, including some beefy lightweight tripods rated to 20+ lbs. Like probably $100 or so. Want me to keep an eye open and post some?

The GSW690iii is pretty fun. Only problem is that it just has a T mode and not B, so doing long exposures is going to be a pain in the rear end...

Yup you gotta very quickly cover the lens with the cap and then advance the film lever, which closes the shutter.

You still have to wind on to close the shutter

Unfortunately not. You still have to either wind the shutter or the shutter speed ring.

Cover the lens/camera with your lens cap or fedora before you do either of the former to close the shutter.
Problem solved.

It has a titanium shutter, I asked the guy and he built it for me at the same cost.

Something to do with the film? Development? Just the overcast and dark environment in which they were taken? (Probably that.) Whatever it is, I'm loving the colors in some of this roll.

It seemed fine on my calibrated monitor unless I hosed something up during calibration which is entirely possible. But it does look off on my phone. I edited it slightly.

Going to Tokyo and Beijing in a couple weeks. I'd like to bring a camera, but I don't think I want to lug my P67, or the Mamiya RZ67 I just borrowed from a friend. I just caught up on this thread after about six months of totally avoiding all things photography and now I'm tempted to buy a GW690II for the trip. Can anyone speak to it as a good travel/walk around MF camera?

Also, here's a friend environmental portrait from my first roll in ~6 months. I need to rescan it, there's some banding happening.

Yep its great, I've used it on trips to the US a couple of times, about the same weight as a FF DSLR and will fit in the same sized bag.

Thanks! I'm definitely interested in one. They all seem to ship from Tokyo, so maybe I'll just wait and buy one there.

Agreed, just got done lugging mine around New Orleans for 5 days. I threw a thin strap on it and when its hanging to the side I use it as an arm rest.

I think everyone in the dorkroom who has one has gone through a Japanese eBay seller. It would be worth comparing online vs in-country as online could be cheaper. Japan camera hunter might be able to give you an idea of the local prices.
