I'd also be willing to bet they're referencing an old enemy or concept art from the series' original run

They're supposed to be improved floaters, but I think the design is weird and doesn't make sense either. Like, why does the noble and elegant face of a super high tech advanced fascist regime carry spears and look like they belong in the archway of a modern-era 1920s skyscraper? Also if they're the face of the regime why aren't they featured in a single propaganda broadcast?

Maybe the aliens are just bad at this? That's actually a pretty decent explanation.

Overall I think the late-game enemies are pretty cool, just too many goddamn Archons. The Pinion ability is a nice mechanic, but pods should not be comprised of three or four Archons. Enemies that can't take cover should not be the majority in an X-Com mission.

Also, does anyone else think the Archon design looks "off" for X-Com? Where is this ornate golden aesthetic coming from? It looks like it belongs in Warhammer 40k, maybe in a Chaos god's S&M dungeon.

Guerilla ops are the dark event ones. Council missions are the ones where the councilman greets you and I think they always have two rewards? There's still no penalty though, besides the councilman being sad.

Pretty sure the only way to lose a region is to ignore or lose a retaliation (terror) mission in it.

Completed on Commander, started a new campaign on Legendary with 2 mods toggled - increased squad size (default is 6, upgrade to 8) and doubled enemy pod size.

This is glorious in the best way. So many enemies (5 or 6 muton berserkers in 1 pod), so many explosions.

I hacked a Sectopod, and it slugged it out with another Sectopod and a squad of ADVENT troopers. It then annihilated a reinforcement drop, before I had to put it down. Did I need to do that? Probably, because it was hacked for like 3 turns and could've snapped back in the next.

Give me a Memorial Wall where I can put dead hacked robots on. You guys are the real heroes, and XCOM will sing your praises forever :911:

Also, turns out hacking the anime that spawns from ADVENT officers spawns ANOTHER anime

Finally beat my first run. My specialist was effectively useless, basically did nothing. Dominated a Sectopod early, and a loving psi zombie killed a Codec which was cool.

Although I did use up all 3 of my grenades, the grenadier was weaker than my dedicated shooting grenadier (but she was too injured from doing part 1). The 100% shot ability is way too good in the later stages of the game.

My Ranger killed all 3 Avatars by just shooting him until it teleported right to my guy who was across the map.

Game said I only did 38 missions, which is a lot less than I thought.

If you end a mission with an enemy mind controlled, their body does not show up on your loot list. Where does that body go? HOW DID YOU MISPLACE YOUR SECTOPOD SPECIALIST?

The max name lengths are defined as constants in the XComCharacterCustomization script. I could try increasing it with a mod.

Would be nice if the limits were increased for everyone in an update, though.

Pinions would be a cool mechanic if they acted as pod leaders and combined it with 2-3 Advent on overwatch at the end of the aliens' turn. Then you'd have to figure out how to move your guys while also avoiding overwatch.

Pods made up entirely of Archons are boring as poo poo, though.

I've been burning and melting things with the flamethrower and acid grenades but someone just told me you don't get drops if you kill an alien with just those two types of attacks. Regular explosives is apparently okay. Am I not going to run short of Eleirum Cores if this is the case?
