I started on a long effort post a couple of weeks ago about the breakup but didn't finish it, but since its here, I'm just going to post some of it anyway and see a few months from now whether it proves true. It's a mix of summarization of shared thread wisdom (for newer folks and lurkers) and personal speculation (just because that's fun.)
---
SUMMARIES AND SPECULATIONS
The upcoming breakup of Squadron 42 and Star Citizen is unlikely to result in accretive revenue benefits for CIG. Most new backers will opt for Star Citizen as SQ42 is still largely unknown and is, it must be said, a genre oddball in this day and age. Single player space dogfight games with celebrity casts, even if the flight mechanics are tight and cinematic sense brilliant, just seem like a relic formula not well-suited to our times. (And there's little reason to assume either will be noteworthy.)
This is pro-read material for every J4Smart.
lol, 4 assholes get 160 views in two months, you get 250 in a few hours.
Don't know if you got the memo but Gay is OK in The Stimpire.
Provided the balls don't touch otherwise it's penectomies for everybody.

/r/starcitizen: A new Star Citizen is born (Long story inside speculating on PU storyline)
ZZGooch posted:
I loved Privateer. I am a Star Citizen backer because I loved privateer and though I have probably already ruined a lot of my Star Citizen experience by buying ships as a backer before the game launches, I am incredibly excited for the possibilities.
Thinking about how Privateer started, you had inherited a junker "Tarsus" which looks a LOT like a freelancer crossed with an Aurora.
https://storiesbywilliams.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/wcprivateer_tarsus.jpg
Working your way up to your more end game ships, a Galaxy if you were into trading. Which looks an awful lot like a Constellation.
http://privateer.sourceforge.net/downloads/stuff/galaxy_wip_n2.jpg
Or you might have a Centurion as more of a Bounty Hunter / all-around badass ship. Smacks of a kind of "heavy-fighter" like a Warden maybe.
I like to think of Freelancers as "working stiffs" who are out there just knocking out jobs in search of credits, pushing to upgrade their ships systems or step up to another ship altogether. In a way, Star Citizen to me epitomizes that game play but also takes it to the next and next and next levels. It makes me think through how progression will look in the game for these every-day guys trying to get by. Also how we might meet the NPCs who become essential and loved parts of our crews. Everyone talks about hiring out the crews for their large ships (Idris and what-not) like the NPCs are just a way to make a turret into an automated point defense gun, but I think it will be something much more interesting like we see in games like Fallout and Skyrim, your companions have stories and are "people."
For now, since I have no idea how it will play in, let's assume you start straight into the PU with no SQ42 prequel.
I am thinking something like this:
Your working man inherits a ship from his dead uncle.
He gets the e-mail in his cubicle at his insurance agency where he spends his days sorting through impossible to comprehend claims where both sides are arguing that the other one "griefed" them and is 100% at fault. He stands up, looks around, walks to the elevator and leaves, it takes 3 months before anyone even realizes he's gone and remembers to cancel his salary.
Meanwhile, he heads to the local spaceport and finds his glorious future awaiting him in a rusty, grimy, space wreck of an Aurora that his uncle left in a temporary storage unit to go racing for the weekend where he smashed into a floating, upscale apartment complex at 1200 m/s due to his controls suddenly going unresponsive when his HOTAS script stopped running for no reason in the background and he suddenly was rolling instead of yawing.
So what have you got?
The Aurora Cheaper than dirt and all-around incredibly useful ship. This thing is durable, cheap to repair and can take you far enough that instead of going for a main-ship upgrade first, you could splurge and buy a specialized fighter/racer for fun. It's a grunt, can pack enough of a punch to get you through in a tough spot and enough of an "Every-mans" ship that no one is trying especially hard to kill you in it.
Eventually, a few risky maneuvers has you rolling in credits and after a few weeks blowing them on drugs and lap dances on Terra you get back to work. You find yourself in a bar one night waiting for the Fixer who pinged you on your mobi-glass about a contraband run out to a Covalex station in Crusader that depressurized awhile back killing everyone inside. It's now operating as a pirate base for some low-grade thugs who are giving local security something to do by going out and shutting down comm arrays. Crusader security thinks something big is going on, but it's just a couple of idiots who like to ruin people's day. Lucky for you, they are also bored and have been advertising for some adult entertainment on back-comm channels.
Meantime, you see a guy sitting down the bar sobbing over a whiskey and water to the bar-tender about a near-miss encounter with some pirates at the local jump point, nearly killed him and he just can't do it anymore. He's gonna sell his ship to the first guy to offer him a drink and enough cash for Starliner ride back to Sol.
So you being the kind gentleman you are, you take the drunk up on his offer and walk off with a pair of keys for your shiny new...
Avenger Titan This baby MOVES and the added bonus of not having to EVA to access your cargo let's you change up what you're carrying. It's got enough firepower to keep the pirates off of you and unlike your Aurora where you just hightailed it or dropped your load for them, you're feeling like you might be a new hotshot on the block.
You're still running cargo, mostly contraband and "entertainment" to backwater stations needing to keep the human resources in a productive state of mind, when you get hopped by a pirate crew that isn't interested in your load out, they just want you dead. You fly fancy, blow up a couple Auroras and a 300i (why do the idiots paint them red all the time, its like screaming HELLO I AM A PIRATE to the local brass) and as you are dodging through an asteroid field the cavalry arrives in the form of 3 Military grade UEE hornets that heard your distress call from a local Idris Patrol-boat doing a routine run through the trading lane.
2 hours and 2 dead Cutlasses later you are back on the Idri pounding drinks and trading stories while they fix up the Titan. Turns out the 300i pilot was a bit of a local menace with a pretty hefty reward on his head (or lack thereof) and that was being transferred to your account (The credits, not the head). The Idris drops you back in civilization a couple days later and you head to the MISC dealer, trade up your Aurora (they robbed you, but the thing didn't ever stop smelling like your Uncle died in it rather than in a fireball) as well as your Titan and were soon flying off into the sunset in your brand new Freelancer MIS.
One of the Hornet pilots was chatting you up about maybe getting into business together and had a line on a pretty sweet muscle/hustle run for his father-in-law's mining company. They'd been plagued by pirate crews hitting their tradeships and were buried in escort fees, they were suspicious the "escorts" were actually just the same pirate group that was attacking them when they weren't running escorts, and he wanted to try a different trick. The Lancer MIS carried enough punch noone was going to voluntarily hit it and it could still carry a decent ore-load.
So you go pickup your new buddy (Buck) and his wife (Jane), Buck says Jane's the best shield operator you've ever seen and head off to your new gig. The guys a maniac on the rear turret, he even figured out how to slave your side guns to the turret controls for anything on your front 180 view, left you completely free to focus on piloting while Jane ran shields, and it was no joke, she was a wizard. Your crew was pulling down some serious cheddar, anyone who did get in close wasn't happy about it, and mostly you were left alone. The money was so good and your team so effective Jane's dad offered to chip in 10% on a bit of an upgrade.
Which is how you ended up in your Connie Andromeda. And man was she was a mean, ruthless bitch. You'd picked up a couple ex-UEE guys running the turrets, Jane still ran shield control and was doubling as your targeting/missile control officer while Buck flew the snub fighter. Jane hated having him out there, it felt like you were dumping him in a suicide pod every time he decoupled, but the guy could FLY. You'd mastered the art of a sustained cruise / defense flight mode where you'd force the pursuers to go into cruise to keep up, took away their ability to maneuver around you and without fail they'd just line up in straight line trying to catch up and you'd just flip the bird around and hit them with the main guns. Noone ever caught on because anyone who tried it ended up too dead to tell their buddies.
You went through a couple gunners here and there, and eventually Jane convinced Buck he wasn't allowed in the snub fighter anymore (women always taking the small joys out of life) so he was constantly yelling down the turret tube at whatever poor sap was in the belly gun to "just loving hit something for once." You'd found an old UEE vet named Merv who said he'd always meant to die in a fighter while he was still enlisted, so he didn't mind if one day he died in the snub, though he'd probably outlive everyone, the guy was a surgeon with the nose gatling gun.
Life was pretty good, the credits were adding up and the contracts were easier to come by, you had the reputation for always coming through and your employers knew it. You'd been thinking about maybe going big and setting up a hull D with a full escort group and doing some easy bulk-hauls for the UEE, the money was good and you'd be running through military occupied space. Pretty hard to pass that up, it would mean breaking up the team and making them all captains, but you were starting to like the sound of "Admiral" of your own fleet.
// End for now

It looks like it's been playable for over a year, unlike Star Citizen.

INN really does seem like a poorly run mouthpiece for CIG.
Looking Ahead
2016 will be a gigantic year for Star Citizen. The persistent universe will continue grow and the mechanics of final game will continue to be implemented. Oh, also, Squadron 42 Episode 1 will be released!
I’m excited to see Star Citizen going to a regular release schedule with a big patch being released each month. I think this will provide more consistency and stability both to the community and the development team. Every month there should be a new ‘big’ patch, including whatever features are ready for inclusion.
In the near-term I’m hoping and expecting we will see things like shopping (and persistence), female character models, and new EVA mechanics (these were experimented with in the 2.1 PTU). I also expect expansions to the playable content in the Crusader map such as new areas and new missions. At some point we should also see a Star Marine release, and the implementation of basic cargo and salvage systems.
Following afterwards I expect we’ll see subsumption (NPC AI system), the ability to take off from and land at ArcCorp, new landing zones including the well-developed Levski zone, and the integration of the procedural generation technology for planets. I’m hoping they will start giving us the chance to mess around with jump points at some point in the near future as well.
Throughout the year we should see new gameplay mechanics integrated as their design and implementation is completed. Things like repair, mining, and refueling all immediately come to mind as aspects to expect to see fleshed out in the coming months.
Later on this year I am looking forward to seeing the true birth of the Persistent Universe when the entire Stanton system becomes available for play.
Probably the biggest moment this year will be the release of Squadron 42 Episode 1. This will mark CIG’s first retail release! It’s pretty exciting stuff – I can’t wait to play. The efforts put in to getting Episode 1 release-ready will also have a lot of side benefits for Star Citizen in terms of polish, performance, character customization, and game mechanics.
Ships! I can’t forget ships. I believe in the near term we will see the Xi’An Scout, the P-72 Archimedes, the MISC Reliant, the Aegis Sabre, and the Drake Herald in the game and flight ready. In terms of hangar-ready ships I’m excited to see the Starfarer settle its bulk into the R&Y hangar soon!
On the technical side of things, I’m excited to see the modifications to CryEngine to make it fully compatible with DirectX 12 and able to take full advantage of this new API. In addition, the VR implementation for Star Citizen will be of great interest to me as I will be receiving my Oculus Rift in April!
In terms of funding… well things are only getting more difficult to predict. Normal funding has grown impressively since the release of SC Alpha 2.0. If you conclude that this increased enthusiasm is likely to continue… I would be fairly confident in suggesting that Star Citizen could hit $150 million in 2016. One interesting question is… do you consider Squadron 42 standalone sales to be a part of crowdfunding? Or more importantly, does CIG? If they do… that $150 million number could grow much higher. There are also not many upcoming concept ships that we are aware of. Does the possibility of a smaller number of concept sales in 2016 depress funding somewhat?
It’ll be fun to find out.
Thank you so much for reading my 2015 in review article! I hope you enjoyed it. Here’s to an incredible 2016!

If I did a live stream of it maybe. I was just thinking prerecorded though.
I just think a less cock sucky news show played straight would get way more views than those assholes, and that it would probably deeply hurt them.
Yes it would. I think it would be helpful if it wasn't just 30 minutes of bashfest. If it was balanced and said hey .. these are the things they've done well (of which there are not many) and then here is the list where they need improvement.. (plenty) and here is what they are royally loving up. That would get a lot more respect than what's going on.

SO... Who is going to want to actually buy Squadron 42?
It would be really surprising if CIG hasnt already sewn-up every nerd alive who grew up loving (and still loves) Wing Commander games by now. They need young buyers now, those who have no memory of the game-- yet the cast itself features a lot of older people (Oldman, Hamill, Anderson, John Rhys, etc.) It's just hard for me to see what hooks they have for the under 35 gamers who haven't already bought it.
Speculating further, I will guess the lackluster sales conversion for SQ42 post-split is quickly made into an internal crisis that demands immediate attention.
This doesn't mean a financial crisis. If they flog ship sales for SC non-stop and keep shortchanging older backers in order to attract newer spacepixel porn nerds they can probably manage a small monthly burn on overhead, even if it means disenfranchising the megawhales in the process. (They allegedly have more cash on hand than the oft-rumored pittance.)
If it wasn't for the grace of Derek Smart, I would have ended up buying SQ42 when it releases in 2017. That makes me thing there may be other people out there, people who have heard of Wing Commander but aren't yet aware of the scam Roberts is currently running.

But why would you have had to buy it in 2017? You surely would've heard about it and backed it already before now, but for Derek, right? If you'd done so before 2/14/16, you'd already be entitled to it in 2017.

Page 2014 Steak Recipe.
You need:
A steak
Some potatoes
Green Beans
A shallot
Vegetable Stock
Salt, Pepper, oil.
Preheat oven to 400 °F. Slice the potatoes into wedges, plop them on a cookie sheet with some oil and salt and pepper. Pop those potatoes into the oven for 30 minutes, giving them a scramble at 15 minutes. Mince the shallot.
When you check on the potatoes, add the green beans to the sheet (so they get about 15 minutes in the oven)
Season the steak heat some oil in a pan, and fry that bastard. A few minutes a side. Set aside to rest.
Add a little more oil to the steak pan and fry the shallot for a few minutes. Add some vegetable stock, scrape up the fond (steak browned bits) and simmer until somewhat reduced. At this point the potatoes and beans should be done. Steak on plate, sauce on steak, veggies next to steak.
Bon AppePARP!
