Drove it back from the shop this morning. Completely dry, though a bit of salt dust remaining on the road.

I didn't think to get a shot of the side vs rear black trim color difference until I'd come up to my garage, so this is the best I can do:

The shop put a Griot's black trim polish on the side face of the rear trim, and it's dark enough to match the side.

It's really nice to have the work come out better than new -- the shop gave me a labor discount, and all told, the patch and paint was $480. Even so, I haven't decided if I want to disclose that repair, well outside of here anyways.

One more size comparison pic:

It's really not that extreme in real life. The 348 is 5" wider than that Corolla, but it doesn't look it thanks to how much further the Corolla's trunk pushes out.
I just love the rear end of the car. Swoopy and rounded can look cool but the rectangular and louvered surfaces really give it an all business appearance.

Found a front right wheel wheel on eBay for $300, which is how much the shop would charge me to refinish the rash I did from running into the curb. Ordered it.

Also saw this really nice 15k mi example with major service done:

Yeah, I know, I pay it. The valuation is hosed up, though. For me, it fails to account for the fact that my car started life as a Focus ST not a regular Focus hatchback. I'm not complaining, though, it saves me money.

Same here. All our vehicle are old enough to get the minimum valuation, except for my truck. It's not a bad idea, as it keeps people from complaining that their old car isn't worth some KBB/NADA book price. It's amusing if you have a very expensive old car, as Kimbo does.

Got back from NC and took the 348 out on a maintenance drive. Gotta say, it's really cold to leave the windows down, but worth it to hear the exhaust roaring and crackling.

A moving truck tried to turn onto a one-way street exit, and I went to go around him. Didn't entirely leave my lane, but got beeped by a Lexus RX. I think this is the first time I've significantly stood out as a Ferrari driver in traffic.

Random fan encounter: some guy in a Spectra rolls up beside me at a stop and says either "That car is nice" or "That Ferrari is nice." He was mumbling so much that I barely had time to nod and say thanks in response.

Filled up, as the fuel gauge was reading anywhere from 1/4 to 7/16. Got 120mi over 11.8gal, so just over 10mpg. That said, I'm not sure if I really topped it off last time (or this time), cuz the gas pump keeps stopping early. Haven't figured out the magic way to angle the nozzle to get it to flow best. It's also been so long since my last fillup that I forgot you have to leave the key in to use the gas release button.

When I first started the car, I got lit ABS and BRAKE lights. I confused the BRAKE light with the separate PARK light that indicates you have the parking brake on, so I just set and unset the parking brake, which made both lights go away. The parking brake light itself is also hard to unset; maybe all 3 are linked somehow? Didn't happen when I started it after I filled up:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mRv0jPrnAM
To the upper right are the red SLOW light, if the computer thinks there's a non-critical engine condition, then the yellow ABS light. The BRAKE light didn't come on at all.
At the bottom are the two engine banks' CELs, and the BATTERY light. On a normal startup, the last two things to go off are the cyl 1-4 CEL and 5-8 CEL.
The left seatbelt light stayed on because my clicking in wasn't perfect. A couple of retries and it went off.
I'm very much dreading the day when one of those CELs doesn't come off. All the buyer's guides said that you need to see those CELs come on during startup and then turn off. Otherwise, an unscrupulous owner might have pulled the bulbs.

After reading Centripetal Horse's homeless struggles thread, where he's not sure if he wants to spent $20 to get his oil changed, I remembered that it'd been a few drives since I checked my oil.

Wasn't much of a joyride with all the traffic out there, though a Harley rider did complement me on the car after a typical "I bet I could take you" greeting.
Oil was down to 1/3 between MIN and MAX, though I sat in the car for a bit longer than usual before checking. I gave it 750mL and will check again next time. I think it was a bit darker than last time.
There was also some oil sheen under the cap. Not sure what to make of that:

Horrible washout, but the white specks under the cap are the sheen.

The reason I sat in the car was to get video of the very brassy horn sound. Had to use the horn today after some out of state driver didn't know to go on blinking yellow.

Since this is 75% of the way there to an e/n thread, I'll post this development here.

I've been getting increasingly noticeable symptoms:
- numb hands and skin
- weakness in the arms and hands
- pins and needles tingling when I wake up
Tues morning, when I woke up, I felt the weakest I ever have, so went to the ER. The blood tests and CT scan didn't reveal anything immediate, which is good. But the symptoms persist and are getting worse by day.
I brought this up with my GP a while back when I first noticed, but now things are so obvious that I'm trying asap to see a neurologist.

That last weekend drive, I misshifted into 3rd -- not dipping the clutch all the way in before landing the shift, resulting in some huge grinding. Thinking back to that incident, I'm now very worried that whatever I have, it'll increasingly affect my ability to drive. I've been avoiding trying to self-diagnose this, but either way, it's really really scary.

There was a period a while back where I had a huge bruise or something that made it painful to sit on the saddle, but I have no idea now if that had anything to do with my current condition.

It seems like any kind of exercise helps me resynch to my nerves better, but it's very fuzzy trying to draw that correlation.
So far, riding a bike isn't hard, since my sense of balance isn't affected, even if my ability to stand and balance on my legs is slightly degraded. Since you use your whole body to steer the bike, it's easier that way.

Right now, 50% of my waking hours are symptom free, but it seems to be creeping up.

This. But our bodies are weird. My wife went through something last month where she had a normal cold. Then, all of a sudden, she was dizzy like she was drunk. 5 hours later, after we went to bed, she couldn't move because the room was spinning around him so much. Ended up with a 911 call because she couldn't move.

Turned out to be an inner-ear problem, probably from the virus of her sickness. hosed her all kinds of ways. Oddly, there is physical therapy for this type of vestibular thing and she's doing well now.

Bottom line -- get it sorted, kimbo305, hopefully it's something that's diagnose-able and easy to find. :unsmith:

I met with the neurologist on Friday, and after running through a much of "how much do you feel here vs here?" tests with a pin, they agreed something was up, but could be caused by many things.
They managed to get me MRIs scheduled on Sat and Sun, which I went to. On Monday, I heard back that the scans preliminarily showed no signs of injury or lesions that might be the signs of MS. The specialist reviewing specifically said the scariest stuff had been ruled out, which was certainly a relief. Still have to digest how to think about my ever-looming mortality.

I still have some weakness and numbness waking up, and I notice it's very easy for me to make an arm fall asleep just by lying on it. I gotta schedule a followup to chase down whatever this is. Still not sure if this'll clear up on its own or if I need some treatment. I think it very well could be psychosomatic, but I honestly haven't been experiencing many life changes or stress throughout this period, so it wasn't what I first suspected when I started feeling things.

I'd been avoiding driving the 348, but since the weather's going to be nasty this weekend, I decided to go on a quick night drive (that and I left my phone at the office).

Still really awesome to see this car. The car did its usual balky warmup over the first 25min, and then I redlined it where I could. Took care to shift slowly into 3rd. It definitely resists more than 2nd or 4th gear.
Downshifted it in a tunnel next to a cruiser watching construction -- couldn't help myself.

The BRAKE and ABS lights were on again on first startup, and went off when I turned on the headlights. So that mystery is deepening.
