Noted pervert R Crumb did some pretty good DJ sessions called Sweet Shellac, some of which are on youtube. He plays a bunch of old and weird jazz out of his 78 collection.

Shaquin posted:This is a haughty rear end opinion bub music takes listening to it to appreciate it thats about the requirement for all musics Didn't mean to come off as snobby. I just meant that jazz tends to have more complicated chords, changes and interplay than popular music and most people -- while clearly not too stupid to understand it -- just aren't willing to put in the time it takes to make sense of it instead of just hearing (as the op put it) "some dude pounding out random clusters of notes on a piano". Personally, I don't like Shakespeare. But if I made an effort I'd probably come to appreciate it. (nice to see someone else likes Emily Remler, all the best jazzers OD'ed on H)

In my mind I was at the chicken farm with forums poster Issac on a massive dose of pills he gave me and I took without really caring what they were and I woke up and it was a little bright out and there were country gunshots and a while later the door opened and his pet rabbit came up to the cot and the soundtrack for all of this was the good version of A Silent Way

I've been listening to some jazz while I work lately and I'm starting to like it. I often have to do some really repetitive mindnumbing poo poo that still requires a lot of attention to detail, and jazz music seems to ride the line between interesting and not too distracting. So far I'm liking it, but I'm still in that period where I know like three jazz guys

Mr.Tophat posted:There are points within jazz songs that are designed to confuse and lose you as a listener. Makes it all the better when they return 'home'. If you hate this, and want to stay at 'home' for the entire song, listen to blues. I always think of it as being like a good joke - what makes it work is the unexpected. We all seem to have some instinct for how a tune "should" progress, some sense of what note should come next. Good jazz keeps you wrong-footed and surprised, and it tingles the brain. But also it does sorta demand your whole concentration and tbf 99% of the time I'd rather listen to nearly anything else because music is what i want in the background while I'm doing other poo poo. That's probably true for a lot of people and prob explains why it doesn't work for a lot of people. Also im goy

I feel like jazz from the past decade is starting to simplify itself slightly. Marshall Gilkes is a good example. So is Esperanza Spaulding. http://youtu.be/bgmTSrandRM Like, they still play complicated stuff sometimes, but I find it pretty accessible and not "typing on instruments". And I like that stuff too.

Jizz was an upbeat, swinging genre of music, most notably performed by Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes and the Max Rebo Band. Subgenres of jizz included the styles of jizz-wail, aubade, and glitz. Also, jatz was slightly similar to jizz. Other notable jizz bands included Bobolo Baker's All-Bith Band, Evar Orbus and His Galactic Jizz-Wailers, Hutt, Figrin D'an II and the New Modal Nodes, and The Sozzenels. Jizz instruments Bass Viol Bandfill Clak Beepbox Dorenian Beshniquel Fanfar Gasan string drum Jizz Jizz-box Kloo horn Mood synthesizer Nalargon Ommni box Peel rod Ploong sounder Slitherhorn (traz) The jizz-box was a musical device. In 13 ABY, the protocol droid C-3PO, who was stranded on the planet of Nim Drovis, auditioned to perform at a cantina called the Wookiee's Codpiece. C-3PO performed by playing back songs stored in his memory core with his vocabulator. The assistant manager of the establishment told the droid that he sounded like a festering jizz-box and rejected him, saying the Codpiece already had a jizz-box to play.[1]
