Hmmmm. I'm thinking some of the Headless songs, sequences, etc. were probably originally written for Memories but didn't fit for whatever reason. So he put them out with Thyx. Just going by the sound.

More sweet music for me.

Depends slightly on what you liked about it, I guess. It's probably their most sleek-sounding album up until that point. I'd say either direction chronologically should be a good move, the previous album IO is a bit rougher and weirder whereas ˇChakra:Red! showcases more of an organic sound. Then I'd recommend Daimonion for an all-around fantastic album and probably Black to get an idea of what they sound like now.

Teethgrinder will swoop in and recommend Eon:Eon but outside of its incredible singles (Carnival, Steelrose, I Live Your Dream) that album is really uneven. The singles are definitely worth checking out, though!

I've never been able to work out if I hate or love Steelrose. Something has always felt off about it. I think it might be his delivery of the lyrics. (lol complaining about PP lyrics)

Thanks for the advice! I had been listening to Skinny Puppy and an old FLA album last night and realized I'd never really given PP a fair shot. I preferred Io to Alpha Omega and ˇChakra:Red!, but liked the latter too. Io is loving awesome, I'll have to check out Daimonion next and report back.

One of the most solid line-ups I've seen them produce, at least as far as I'm concerned, I'm touching wood and having my fingers crossed until august though cos I've had ATR cancel on me twice previously, which was super disappointing.

Tonight was High-Functioning Flesh and Body of Light in Denton. What's great is that the venue was next to a railroad track and concrete plant.

Oh, they killed and I'd recommend it. Kind of a mental show with people sorta losing their poo poo, like Youth Code concerts.

They're hitting a lot of places in North America over the next couple of weeks so see it.

Edit: The worst goth crowd I've ever seen was Clan of Xymox, though it was on the larger side for Texas, the audience was ... awkward. You gotta go to small EBM shows for people to freak out. Bonus points if it's next to a concrete plant.

Holy poo poo, Tyler Newman (Battery Cage, Informatik) put out a new album under a new name last month and I didn't notice!

https://solidgreyskyrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/invisible-weapons

Enjoying it so far. Coincidentally he cites Jesu as an influence on it ... just heard Jesu for the first time ever ten minutes prior on Spotify Discover.

edit: was a slow build for me ... started out decent, but by the end it was fantastic. Really fluid mix of cool styles.

edit2: listening again already, but at home now. Weirdly this album sounds a hell of a lot better on my home stereo than the closed headphones I use at work. I thought it could use more production work before, but it sounds great here.

Daimonion: well-rounded album. I would have to say the style they're coming in to on Daimonion is a bit less to my taste than what they were doing on Io, but definitely a solid effort! The programming is very good and the songs are well written. I think the guitar should be removed or at least be placed lower in the mix on "Timekiller" though. I'll check out Black and Eon:Eon next. Thanks!

Sounds like you like the rougher ealier sound, and I think Entities, Lam-'bras (the title track is incredible, one of my all-time favorite Pitchfork tracks) or the EP/album-thing Souls/Island should probably be up your alley more than either of those albums. None of the material after Alpha Omega really goes back to that kind of sound anymore, IO is probably the culmination of that particular era of Project Pitchfork.

I still think you should check out one of the newer albums like Black just to get an idea of the current sound, though :)

Al stated that the first half of the record was alcohol-fueled(that other song you heard, so like later Ministry) and that the last half was weed-fueled and written/recorded after Al moved to cali and got his medical marijuana card.

I could care less about the first half of this upcoming record but if the 2nd half is anything like this then bring it on. Hippie Weed Al is a lot more interesting than the Al we've seen the last 15 years.

Would have linked "Unter Null - Obligatory Club Hit To Appease The Masses" but it's not on Youtube any more.

More seriously, there is quite a bit of crossover between techno and industrial and there is a thing called industrial techno. I'm just not really the right person to advise on it.

I think this is a recent example of it: https://soundcloud.com/perc/sets/ansome-stowaway-perc-trax

PP is a bit less abrasive than most of the electronic stuff I usually go for, so I think you're dead on with this post.

Lam-'bras: the production really necessitates listening to it at a high volume. Title track is excellent, lots of catchy songs that have aged pretty well. I quite liked "Conjure."

Entities: definitely has to be listened to from front to back. I actually really liked Entities, maybe even more so than Lam-'bras.

Black: this one was a big surprise. By the second track I hated it and by the last I thought Black was really strong. Lots of production choices I wouldn't have made, and on some of the really clean sounding songs the vocals can come off as a bit silly, but the songwriting is absolutely on point. Liked "Enchanted Dots of Light," "Rain" and "Acid Ocean," among others.

So far Io is still tops, for me.

The first couple of Project Pitchfork albums are a pretty interesting sequence of releases, I think. There's a very clear sense of progression from a fairly primitive sound to something magical. Here's some loving :words: about Project Pitchfork because what the hell

The first album, Dhyani, was recorded in like a day or two or something and it really shows. Some tracks in there are fantastic, like Fire and Ice, Box of Steel or Lie on Grass, and K.N.K.A. kicks rear end live and is so :3: in its earnestness, but it's all unfortunately dragged down by the rushed production and terrible sound quality. The EP Psychic Terror, which you might want to check out too, probably sounds a lot like Dhyani was supposed to sound.

Lam-'bras shows a vastly more developed sound compared to Dhyani but I'd say is quite uneven, especially towards the end. The title track and Conjure are definitely classics, there's a reason why Pitchfork has played the latter at nearly every single of their concerts. It is an INSANE live track.

Entities is very close to being top-to-bottom fantastic (I especially love SOTW, Pan and Hell), but it's a bit "rambly", I think, and some weaker tracks drag it down in my opinion. The Abeyance is terrible and I've never really liked Entity. Souls/Island is very similar to Entities in many ways (check out The Island!), but then IO comes and just sounds SO GOOD and has such fantastic material from start to finish, it's incredible. IO is in the top 5 Project Pitchfork albums of just about every Pitchfork fan I've ever met, and for good reason. I don't think I realized its genius until like a couple of years ago, personally, but it's definitely up there for me now. One of my favorite memories from my travels in Germany is when we were driving to Berlin from Project Pitchfork's concert at Königstein in 2014 totally exhausted, soaking wet from the rain and sweat but happy at like 4 AM and we just blasted IO on repeat the whole trip.

If you did end up liking Black after all and were left intrigued, you might want to check out Dream, Tiresias!, Continuum Ride or Blood to see if you want to listen to more of the newer stuff. Dream, Tiresias! was a kind of a back-to-the-roots album with a straightforward, actually kind of minimalist 100 % electronic sound after the guitar-infused material that started with ˇChakra:Red! and went all the way up to Kaskade. Continuum Ride is probably my favorite PP album, it's a fantastic continuation of the Tiresias sound with better, tighter songwriting and very few weak links. Blood is the newest album and finally features some clean vocals again (see: your comments regarding the vocals on Black, which I agree with) while also introducing some glitching effects that are sparsely but well-used and an overall very dark and bubbly, conceptually fitting but still modern sound. It's maybe a little less catchy than Black.

I could write a whole lot more about any and all Project Pitchfork albums so I'll stop here before it gets out of hand again
